Apparently it crossed $2b today. It would have to massively underperform relative to similar movies in the past to not make this a close battle.
It took EG 5 days to make $1B. In another 6 days, it got to $2B, aka $1B in 6 days. The next fastest 'billion' was Infinity War which got to it's first billion in 11 days. Avatar was the fastest to 2b at 47 days. Endgame has hit it in 11 days. Endgame's opening 2 weeks have been the most impressive opening in Box Office history, that isn't up for contention. However we know that this movie is massively frontloaded due to the whole 'end of an era' shit and the spoilers. It also opened in summer and didn't get the endless vacation and free schedule that Avatar got. It also doesn't have the advantage of a weak USD like Avatar did.
real talk, logical arguments and based on experience. infinity war made 2B and i m sure every MCU follower saw it now there's no doubt that every MCU follower will see endgame, however you would need 800m extra. even with new commers and repeated views it's maybe up to 2.5B
William Morris
Yes it will hit $3b
Charles Williams
This whole thing seems dumb, since movie ticket prices go up. And so does the number of human beings alive that can buy a ticket.
Aiden Walker
Regardless Disney will own 8/10 of the top grossing movies of all time
Carson Morgan
capeshitters are so pathetic
Cooper Wilson
You are deluded. At this speed it's inevitable that Endgame will top Avatar. I'm a Camerofag anyways, so it hurts
Luis Baker
It could have absolutely shit tier legs and still reach Avatar. 2 billion in 2 weeks is insane. The people saying otherwise are completely delusional, and clearly don't know much about how box office numbers tend to play out over time.
Charles Carter
Ticket prices are going up but less and less people are going to the cinemas these days. It's why mid-budget films are almost dead in Hollywood now.
Elijah Carter
Avatar was in theatres from December 09 to mid 2010. Recently Within 4 months most movies are available to download from streaming sites or whatever
Jacob Fisher
>I'm a Camerofag anyways, so it hurts
Real Cameronfag here, nobody give a shit about box office.
where do they get extra 1B worth of customers? sudden jump, capeshitters magically reproduced by 150% ?
Carter Baker
I hope youre right. nothing would be better than the peak of modern art and culture being represented by a bunch of looney toon libtards dressing up like spandex-clad fruit-loops jumping around explosions quipping pop-culture references
Do you seriously think that Endgame's earning will plummet fast enough for it to not reach Avatar? It would have to have some of the worst legs ever to not become number 1.
Austin Campbell
it really depends on whether we're using unadjusted for inflation.
the thing is that if you ignore inflation it's inevitable every record will eventually be broken but that makes setting new records meaningless.
Zachary Parker
>In another 6 days, it got to $2B, aka $1B in 6 days too smart for me
Adrian Ross
It doesnt put any money in my pocket, why should i care?
Tyler Nguyen
it'll put an end to shitposting
Luke Rivera
Longstanding records being broken is pretty interesting no matter the record. Look at sports for an example.
Oliver Jones
it'll happen because disney will start buying tickets in the final stretch
Bentley Perez
The real end game is not beating Avatar; it's beating the current #1 movie after inflation, which is Gone With the Wind at $3.7B. It should be noted that part of the reason that it's #1 is because it was re-released many times.
They literally did it with Black Panther when it became evident it wasn't going to cross the 700M mark. Ticket sales magically went up 3000% over night.
Aiden Cox
It's 700m extra at this point.
It's not comparable to Avatar, Titanic or even Star Wars but we can use Infinity War for estimates.
From this point forward, IW made another 300 mil domestically. Endgame will do AT LEAST that. But from another point of view IW was at 50% of its total, so 400m would be a better estimate, or even 450-500. Here it depends of whatever you want to think about it, but even in a pesimistic scenario, it should be another 300m
Even if the Foreign % drops 8 points to 65% (like IW), that should be another 600m. If it doesn't, and we take the best scenario from before, it should be like 1.2m (don't think that's going to happen though).
That should give it 900m AT LEAST (probably more) of the 700m needed to beat Avatar.
My personal thoughts is it will top Avatar in worldwide, but won't have the momentum to top Star Wars at domestic.
Isaac Garcia
Sorry OP its inevitable. Give you thanks to China.
Robert Hughes
Even if it does beat it, I bet you Avatar will be rereleased in theaters for the third time to prep for the sequel.
Hudson Jenkins
Endgame will get to $3.5b
Chase Morgan
yes it can however it won't continue increasing at such fast pace after this weekend. so it will be a bit if or when it beats it.
Liam Rivera
It was also released during in a time when you had no other entertainment options besides maybe radio. According to mojo it sold 200 million tickets domestically. That's basically impossible for any movie today.
Jaxson Watson
Not sure it can beat Avatar but I wanna say that people who actually believe that avatar 2 will be as big as EG are down right delusional
