Tolkien thought Disney was too vulgar and childish, and dragging down classical European folk-lore to an unpleasant standard. The most obvious example is the treatment of the dwarves in Snow White, who are completely un-serious and treated as a bawdy joke. I don't want to put words in a dead man's mouth but I almost certainly believe he would've disliked elements of Peter Jackson's take on Gimli for the same reason.
