Ignoring the obvious strawman, I am increasingly interested in why CP is illegal.
Murder is very easily found with even a google search, and I'm sure we could agree, is much worse.
I see two reasons. One, the availability of CP might make more CP available. Two, the effects on the victims of the video being viewed.
The first is untenable, I feel. It might have the opposite effect, since a lot of the lure is from the illict nature, and the great mass of population would be turned off by it. It also means it would be easier to catch anyone creating it, since awareness of the sellers and victims would be higher. You can argue for protection of the victim, the problem is, the punishment obviously doesn't fit the crime, and the genie is already out of the bottle. You can't stop it.
My current working theory is it is being protected as the last great societal taboo. Look at all the pedophile rings in positions of power. Its the perfect method of control, since anyone who can prove you are a pedophile will completely ruin your life. it's also much easier to get into; I bet a great many people would not be able to kill in cold blood (and even that would be more excusable in the public mind; forced into it, self defense, etc), but the sexual drive is far less illogical.
I'm saying this theoretically. I think all sexual activity under the age of adulthood (which I would place closer to twenty, or at least marriage) is harmful, and studies bear this out. I just wonder why older children are allowed to have sex in society, while younger children aren't. Seems perverse to set such a low barrier.

Up to a certain point, childrens brains are considered too underdeveloped to be able to make decisions which could cause them harm. And it's considered either unethical, or illegal, to force these decisions onto children without their ability to fully understand consent.
