This a myth actually.

Women started their periods and puberty a lot later than girls now because they were far less well fed, and their food wansnt full of artificial hormones.

16-18 was the usual marrying age for women. Waiting until your early twenties was common for wealthier women of more noble families.

You have to bear in mind too that childbirth was a very fucking dangerous thing back then too. It killed a sizeable percentage of all women.

And people weren’t complete morons, they realised pregnant 14 year olds tended to die a lot more than pregnant 18 year olds. So marriage and sex at that age was not common at all in medieval Europe.
