The realm?

>The realm?
>Do you know what the realm is? It's the thousand blades of Aegon's enemies. A story we agree to tell each other over and over till we forget that it's a lie. But what do we have left once we abandon the lie? Chaos. A gaping pit waiting to swallow us all. Chaos isn't a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but they refuse. They cling to the realm or the gods or love. Illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is.

>But enough about me. How have you been since we last saw each other?
>Since you last saw me or since I last saw you?
>Now the last time I saw you, you were talking to the Hand of the King.
>Saw me with your own eyes?
>Eyes I own.
>Council business. We all have so much to discuss with Ned Stark.
>Everyone's well aware of your enduring fondness for Lord Stark's wife. If the Lannisters were behind the attempt on the Stark boy's life and it was discovered that you helped the Starks come to that conclusion... To think... A simple word to the Queen...
>One shudders at the thought.
>Ooh....
>But you know something? I do believe that I have seen you even more recently than you have seen me.
>Have you?
>Yes. Earlier today, I distinctly recall seeing you talking to Lord Stark in his chambers.
>Was that you under the bed?
>And not long after that when I saw you escorting a certain - foreign - dignitary?
>Council business? Of course you would have friends from across The Narrow Sea. You're from there yourself, after all. We're friends, aren't we, Lord Varys? I'd like to think we are. So you can imagine my burden, wondering if the King might question my friend's sympathies. To stand at a crossroads where turning left means loyalty to a friend, turning right, loyalty to the realm -
>Oh, please...
>To find myself in a position where a simple word to the King --
>What are you two conspiring about?
>Well, whatever it is, you'd best hurry up. My brother is coming.
>To a Small Council meeting?
>Disturbing news from far away. Haven't you heard?

>It's the thousand blades of Aegon's enemies. A story we agree to tell each other over and over till we forget that it's a lie.

I never understood this

>Bane?
>Do you know who Bane is? He's the thousand masks of Gotham's enemies. A story we agree to tell each other over and over till we forget that he's a big guy. But what do we have left once we abandon the lie? Loyalty. A gaping silence waiting to swallow us all. Loyalty isn't a pit. Loyalty is a ladder. Many who try to talk fail and never get to try again. The shot and fall break them. And some are given a chance to talk, but they refuse. They cling to the plane or the masked man or love. Illusions. Only the friend is real. The loyalty is all there is.

There were barely 200 swords in the throne, it's a heavily exaggerated number.

>D&D wrote this
What the fuck happened?

>lol dude you have no balls lmao

autism

>people think this was a good scene
I still remember cringing when this happened in the show. So bad.
Literally capeshit tier TV directing.
>muh evil monologue
>muh menacing music
>muh voiceover over something dramatic happening somewhere else
fuck this shit

How do you get through life literally not enjoying anything?

Ebin, user.
In one of the exchanges Littlefinger literally tells Varys he counted the swords.

And some are given a chance to talk, but they refuse. They cling to the hired guns or the big guy or loyalty. Illusions. Only my aircraft is real. The flight plan is all there is.

D&D pushed him off

>student film tier writing in the most expensive tv show in the history of our planet
Yikes.

there is no realm. There is only a simulacra of realm. Read some Baudrillard, lad.

you now remember how fucking good writing was in this shit

Why are they all acting like they're adults in a feudal medieval setting instead of a comic book movie? Why are the children behaving like children? I can't watch this.

Varys says the first part, OP fucked up

>1/10 reading comprehension here

reality is simply our collective hallucinations we agreed upon

We never even learned his tax plan. I thought this was supposed to be more realistic than Lord of the Rings?

How did it all go so mcfucking wrong?

Wow, you don't even know what "reading comprehension" means do you?

When is my boy Varys getting some lines not about balls? Has to be next episode

It was the most realistic show before, before you know...

Power resides where men believe it resides

He means that millions died so that thousands can be ruled collectively by a king. Same thing is happening with Kelly C now.

History is written by the winners, and over time all that's left are the stories we agree to tell in order to keep the peace. Eventually we tell these false histories so much that we forget it's a lie.

Everyone talks about Aegon conquering the Seven Kingdoms, but he never conquered Dorne. In fact, Dorne fucked up a lot of Targaryen rulers.

Even ignoring that; the conquest 'united' the realm because dragons were some next level shit that most people couldn't even begin to defend themselves from. Aegon basically started carpet bombing the other kingdoms into submission, and now he's celebrated by those kingdoms for bringing the realm together.

only people from important bloodlines with borderline magical powers and birthrights are allowed to be important. Littlefinger never had a chance.

It means Aegon was a garbage king.

The acting and the whole scene are cringeworthy shit but the writing isn't too bad

fuck off, it was a good monologue combined with the scenes from other characters.
It is funny however how Littlefinger in the show always stares at the iron throne when he has nothing to do and pets it and shit. I bet every character wonders what he is up to.
