Watch the 1997 series first as other user suggested. That's the way I did it and the best way imo. If you like the anime, you'll probably enjoy the manga. I disagree with other user about skipping the first episode, it sets you up for who the protagonist is. The first episode should be what hooks you or turns you off too, though the story does GoT politics more later on, and as good if not arguably better than GoT (ASoIaF books or early seasons in this comparison).

Cersei rules by fear because there is no named characters or factions under her, when her entire fucking city should have been in an uproar over the Sept of Baelor exploding. We went from Good vs Evil in the first half of the season, back to Good vs Evil in the second half. Whether is a blue scary guy and an undead army vs Cersei and an army of literal whos commanded by literal whos and Euron's fleet of conjured up men and boats.

There is nothing left on the Cersei plotline, she blew up all the interesting characters with zero repercussions and took out the Tyrell mom without anything happening on screen.

Not some dude whose literally been killed and lost everything he's loved in the name of the duty he felt he had to upheld. It's not a "positive" hero, and it's why they hate it. So far all it got him was a Kingship he didn't want, his love killed, all of his friends killed, most of his family murdered, and when he saw the abyss on the other side just to come back he couldn't even rest.

The man is just done, but his basic beliefs compel him to help. People are uncomfortable because almost everyone needs to admit to themselves they'd never sacrifice as much as Jon has to save as much as he has. Even the Northern lords balked when he brought Danerys back even though he knew it was the only literal way they even stood a chance. He'd fuck a literal log if that got him two dragons and a foreign army to help him. The man has gone above and beyond with true and real sacrifice (I'd argue even in a christ-like fashion) and people can't handle it because no one in their right fucking mind would do anything similar. Thus, their jealousy of seeing a "better man" means they have to say why he's a bad leader rather than admitting for one second they're inferior morally to the savior of Westeros.

Most of the undead aren't particularly hard to fend-off and thus aren't all that threatening as long as they aren't able to swamp you and bite/claw you to death. Most weren't armed so risk of getting a stabby stab wasn't that great unless you're distracted.

No one in the crypts was ever in any real danger. It's just terrifying to have to fight-off a corpse. There were probably only a few corpses in the crypts that were still non-skellingtons.

I really like the golden age movies. Some people don't like the anime cgi style it has, but if you look over that, they're great. Especially the third one.

Well I, personally, haven't been watching it since they raped every storyline in season 5 (sometimes literally). I just started with the latest season because friends were having viewing parties. But even with the fact that all logic was gone taken into consideration, even if YOU only cared about sheer entertainment value like you're viewing GOT as capeshit or actionshit, the whole resolution to the White Walker storyline was still absolutely terrible by pretty much any standard.

The 1997 anime series, with all its abundant flaws, mostly does the story justice.
I'd recommend that first to anybody, then if they want more, there's the never-ending manga (with resolved story arcs) and the remake movies.
I don't believe the newer movies can be enjoyed if you don't already like Berserk, and I was hyped when I first heard about them.

The first episode is mostly Guts being a badass, if you like that sort of thing.
I also particularly like episode 5, with the demon warrior. It feels like a Halloween episode.
You may or may not want to watch more than that though... The whole thing feels real 1980s to me, thematically, and the 1997 budget was cut out.
I'd definitely still recommend it though, but you'll only know the thing I alluded to if you watch most/all of it.
