Spike trying to rape her was an attempt at making him seem worse than they'd built him up to be up to that point and was completely pointless character sabotage because the audience liked him. Then, they went and made him even more likeable, as if to say it didn't even matter. The last parts of Buffy are truly terrible and not worth watching, just jump ship after Season 4 I believe and move on to Angel.

Nah, Buffy was a far better protagonist and SMG is a far better actor. However Angel had a far superior supporting cast, not including Cordelia. As for which show is better, Buffy is comfier and more rewatchable while Angel is more interesting and has better arcs. All in all they're both about equal, but I give the edge to Buffy because it's more nostalgic for me personally, especially the high school seasons.
