Besides that, clapping or reacting to a movie beyond laughter is kind of like clapping at the end of a flight- *mostly* taboo, and you look stupid doing it. That being said, I've known times where we've been on a particularly long, grueling, endlessly-delayed flight, or just a particularly rough landing, where the passengers would sarcastically clap at the end (the flight will usually end in clapping anyhow, because the flight attendant always points out the servicemen on the plane after landing), but usually no clapping in the theatre in general.
