I mean they're certainly not my favorite writers, but I wanted to prove my point. And I certainly don't think Frank fucking Herbert is superior to McCarthy or Melville. Dune has some nice ideas, but I don't find his form particularly compelling, and from what I heard he drops the ball completely later on. Though I will say there are some fantasy writers out there with exceptional prose style. I think Bakker might be autistic and has no idea how humans work, but his prose is pretty incredible given how much he can write at that pace. Definitely way above Martin's level - it's just a shame he's bad in literally every other way.
