I don't understand why they just couldn't take the stories about the character (his origin or otherwise) across the world and all media, then fuse them all together into something that is actually coherent and consistent to all audiences?
Who here wants to take a shot at coming up with a better plot than this Lovecraftian train wreck?

Because Sonic games have either;

If they want to make a coherent movie, an origin story makes the most sense.

Sonic can look like shit, the movie can be shit, I want to see Jimmy in action after all of the events that have happened to him after the last few years.

There's nothing in the games you could make a good movie out of. At its best, Sonic is half as good as shit like Dragon Ball. And I say that as someone who has 100%ed garbage like Sonic 06 and art like Sonic Unleashed.
What do you genuinely expect a Sonic movie to contain? Do you genuinely think any of the shit in the games would make for a good film?
