There are tons of games that don't compare to either Pokemon or Mario in sales and still are not extremely niche. If Pokemon and Mario is the bar for Niche then near fucking everything is niche Sonic is not one of those extremely niche games. An example that comes to mind would be Cataclysm. Any console game is not extremely that spans several decades is not.

sonic is perfect for autists, the og design looks nothing like an anatomical rodent let alone a hedgehog specifically. He is a headstrong master of ethics never missing a chance to stand up and do the right thing. I think the less realistic and more simplistic he looks the better.
