Jon isn't really my favorite "character". I just like the situations he participates in.

I've always had an interest in prison-like settings, where characters with a sketchy past have to learn how to live and work with each other.

Though I guess in this case, Castle Black is more like a penal colony. But it's got enough of the same elements to make it enjoyable to me in a similar way.

But I'm also the kind of guy who thoroughly enjoys Dunk and Egg more than the main series. So you can kinda tell that I'm more into young heroes fighting bad guys than I am political intrigue and scheming masterminds.

Has it EVER happened? A seemingly "bad" piece of the story being planned to appear like that and later redeemed with the followup? The fact that people are pissed means nothing in the episode had any merit, if this reaction was intended and another twist was coming in the following episodes, and the writers were aware of it, they would've put in SOMETHING to indicate that. This was just a fuckup, and there's more to come.
