They didn't. Avengers was the first movie they put out after they bought Marvel. IM2 was fucked because of the writers strike while RDJ wanted his buddy Justin Theroux (aka Jennifer Aniston's hubby) to write it because he had done so with Tropic Thunder which had got him an Oscar nomination. Same reason why IM3 was fucked, RDJ wanted his friend Shane Black to Write/Direct it because he had done so with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang which brought RDJ's career back from the dead. RDJ is loyal to a fault and let it affect the IM sequels!!!FACT!!!
