Evangelion is about a bunch of giant robots and alien action masking a story about embracing the challenges of the real world, whereas RPO is about a thin narrative of the threat of a corporate dystopia demanding that you live in the real world masking a bunch of pop culture references and CGI action

Escapism once in a while is okay. The show is about replacing reality with fantasy that many obsessive fans do(prime example being fans of franchises like Harry Potter, MCU, Star wars, etc..)

Him deciding to turn off the oasis twice a week almost seems unearned. I think like another user said it's story may involve making people not live in a fictional world but it seems more focused on being escapist wish fulfillment.
