>It's autistic fans become obsessed with escapism
Make a film that tells the audience to not dwell in escapism
anno foresaw all that. he's a next level troll.
Literally nothing wrong with escapism. Psychologists even recommend it if it makes you happy.
>make a film that tells the audience to not dwell in escapism
>also make escapism the main reason why the hero wins and gets the girl
You forgot
>make metric tons of money off the merchendizing of the escapism's waifus
>escapism is watching a show about avoiding escapism.
user, are you perhaps fucking retarded?
This is kind of an inverse of Evangelion
Evangelion is about a bunch of giant robots and alien action masking a story about embracing the challenges of the real world, whereas RPO is about a thin narrative of the threat of a corporate dystopia demanding that you live in the real world masking a bunch of pop culture references and CGI action
When exactly did videogames surpass film and television as intellectual escapism?
>Literally nothing wrong with escapism.
Brainlet that's why I wrote "to not dwell in escapism".
Escapism once in a while is okay. The show is about replacing reality with fantasy that many obsessive fans do(prime example being fans of franchises like Harry Potter, MCU, Star wars, etc..)
user it's definitely not anti-escapism.
Escapism is the opposite to what you think it is tough. When you are engaged with a story that appeals to you you're actually tapping into your own subconscious which is the opposite of escaping. You're better understanding who you are
Yeah I don't see the point in having a anti-escapist message when the story indulges in pure escapism with thin characters made for wish fulfillment.
nope, you're ignoring reality and infantilising yourself
Should I watch evangellion?
ocarina of time
yes, it will change your life, anyone that says it wont is just a prick
The movie ends with MC turning off Oasis twice a week so people can spend time in the real world.
I am surprised no one has made the GoT edit of that screenshot.
I don't get the cult of this anime, I've seen it and it didn't blow my tits off. I'm not saying that it's complete garbage or something, I just dont see the genius
I like berserk personally
No, it's boring. Not only that, the MC is a beta cuck which will just frustrate you. Watch something where the protagonist is strong and actually does something.
Isn't the Oasis the central banking hub of the world, as well as the primary method in which many people around the globe take vacations and go to school? It's not just a fancy video game machine.
That solution only works for him because he lucked out beyond his wildest dreams and got a massive fortune as well as a girlfriend, and now doesn't care about fucking around online. The rest of the world is still a poverty-stricken ghetto, that ending reads like "OK guys I got mine so now we all need to cut back on the game time" without any consideration for what the unwashed masses are meant to do during the times when they're now barred from their one escape mechanism. If anything it would probably exacerbate the crime issue
I guess in a way you're right. It also ends with the hero getting a hot girl(who is supposed to be ugly because of a blemish), a multibillion dollar industry and a whole bunch of friends because of his nerdish obsession with escapism.
Him deciding to turn off the oasis twice a week almost seems unearned. I think like another user said it's story may involve making people not live in a fictional world but it seems more focused on being escapist wish fulfillment.
I remember reading there's nothing in the book about shutting the oasis down and it was a change that Spielberg made in the movie, is it true?
Have sex.
>make show about skyscraper sized robots
>make the characters butthurt drama queens who're reluctant to use them
i just want a show where people go full ham with their powers, be they paranormal or mechanically augmented
Then watch TTGL.
Hating Shinji is the most beta cuck shit you can do. You must accept we all have a bit of Shinji in ourselfs that we must fix.
>>make metric tons of money off the merchendizing of the escapism's waifus
What's wrong with that?
>wtf why isn't this 14 year old kid a badass Chad like me
This criticism will never stop being worthless
