He Literally has multiple personality disorder. Furthermore, there’s a nagging question as to whether his MPD is a result of PTSD after the atrocities he committed in war as a mercenary or because he actually really is the avatar of a vengeful ancient Egyptian god.

Paffenroth was one of Sarnak's chief operatives until Sarnak went mad after an encounter with the Werewolf, Jack Russell. The Committee gave Paffenroth his own campaign of terror. Calling himself the Tatterdemalion, Paffenroth struck out randomly at the wealthy, whose ranks had once claimed him as a member.
