I watched a new episode on fox recently and it was abysmal.. the whole structure of the show was 20 seconds of something wacky going on in the house then cut to a shot of the outside of the house with familiar music playing then back to a 20 second wacky ordeal then back to a shot of the outside of the house repeated for 22min

The problem is the opposite of what you're saying. The problem is that Family Guy desperately wants to make sense when it doesn't and never did.
Stewie and Brian are the only ones who get half decent episodes anymore and it's really fucking tiresome because their dynamic is worn out.
