Underrated kino

None of the characters in this show had honor, everyone just betrays everyone.

I've tried multiple times to watch this show but could never make it past the first season. Do they ever actually get to do any pirate stuff? Or is it just a shitty lesbian romance drama the whole way through?

The fact that the dumb whore Max literally made it to the end without getting killed off ruined it for me. 7/10

I don't mind gay characters, but this was clearly badly conceived, and probably women were involved in the reasoning.
It would've been totally fine if he was asexual and trying to rescue his bro.

i found that very boring. couldn't watch more than couple episodes. nothing were interesting to me. plotting done by the characters, yeah don't care. i'd wish there were some more action happening. it even ironically started with cool fight scene but then nothing happens for couple episodes and i dropped it since the plot didn't offer anything interesting to me.
pretty weak is what i'd say.
might give it a new chance sometime in future when i dry out from every other series.

It's mentioned at least once in every episode that John Silver is the master of controlling the narrative, the master of making up stories and of using a well-spun story to control those around him and help him get what he wants. This is slammed in our face once every episode at the very least starting in season 1.

John Silver spends all the seasons living on his one ability: the ability to make up stories that people believe. In the last episode John Silver tells a story about Flint going to live on a farm with his gay boyfriend. If you think that is how the series ended you were not paying attention.

I got up to the part where they got all the blacks to invade some area to "take it back" (Just looked, S3E08) and I was fucking bored to DEATH.

I wanted to watch it for Billy, cause he was fuckin BASED, but I can't commit to another 12 or so hours for one character

The S3 finale is the perfect episode of television, catch up to that point if nothing else.

It really is kino and I genuinely mean that. It’s in my Top 5 if not Top 3. On one hand I’m sad it didn’t get any awards or more recognition, but on the other, my inner contrarian is satisfied to have this overlooked gem.

Agreed. Great fucking show, Charles Vane is so based. Max however overstayed her welcome and delivered a poor performance in my opinion. The worst thing about the show is the two minute long monologues that some characters give in conversations. Max is just a whore but she constantly gives godlike insight on characters like she can see the future in a crystal or some shit.

I loved those, the dialogue was written like theatre rather than television, and most of the actors they found were classically trained stage actors instead of TV C-Listers.
Obviously not every actor could pull it off but Rackham, Silver and especially Flint brought some real intensity to the screen that's rare in television performances. Made everything feel like a true epic.

Guess the only advice I can give you is to read a lot of books in English while actively looking up every word you don't know.

100% correct. The only asspulls I can think of in this show is Blackbeard's death (come the fuck on) and Billy Bones flipping for no real reason.
Black Sails is what happens when you spend half the budget on ships and the other half on good writers.
Max and Eleanor can fuck off though.

Actually yeah I'll admit you're right about that. I think the reason I don't like it because when you have subpar performances giving a several minute long monologue it drags everything out and bores me out.

But some of the most kino moments in the show are when Silver and Flint gives their monologues, like in the end of S1.

It really was quite bizarre how good it was. The S3 finale was pretty much a 50/50 split between action scenes and a simple conversation between Flint and Silver.
And both were just as engaging and perfectly paced together.
That was probably my favourite episode.
