This is why I've always said tickets sold is a better barometer for success, but Hollywood would never use it because it's rarely every adjusted for inflation, so they'll use money made since the price of tickets always goes up.

There's many people now that skip movies while they are in the theater, but watch it few months later on Netflix. So it's hard to say the amount of audience modern blockbusters get just purely on ticket sales.
