Nothing really, its performance was pretty much as expected (realistically) of a comedic superhero movie with not that well known main character.
Obviously people try to claim otherwise, but comedic superhero movies are not an easy sell and something like Deadpool is an exception.

Stuck between 2 monster movies. But in the end it did fine. The characters are known to the public already, any other movie he's in will sell more, and then WB can do the crossover they intended to do years ago.

Bad release date, character nobody knows with no cinematic brand power, appeals to kids more than the usual capeshit but kids are in Thanos mode and want to snap people.
