So I read the manga when I was ~14 ish and loved it back then. When the trailer for Alita came out I first was excited. But after I saw it the weird cgi of her eyes scared me even though the rest looked solid. I don't want to watch someone butcher her story. It's the only Hollywood adaptation of a manga or anime ever made that DOESN'T butcher the source material. It's also probably the best film of the year unless something truly incredible is released between here and December. The CGI takes all of 2 minutes to get used to and after that it's a solid 2 hours of pure immersion into the film.

Slow hours huh. I was thinking about how fortunate we are that the Alita movie came out in 2019 and not a decade earlier. The years of delay were suffering if you were a manga fan and knew Cameron held the rights but also a blessing in disguise because it allowed motion capture to become advanced enough to create a believing Alita that goes beyond uncanny valley despite the larger-than-usual eyes.
People here often joke about how Alita is perfect and all that, but she really isn't; her face captures the many small imperfections of Rosa that all humans share like slight asymmetry, a chin that isn't perfectly centered down to the millimeter, puffy cheeks and so on. Pure CGI characters have a hard time moving past that even with introduced imperfections and often look "too perfect" and doll-like. So yeah, it's nice. Anyone else just recently noticed the small scar on her nose?

It somewhat takes after the OVA which somewhat takes after the manga while also hinting at elements from Last Order - I'm assuming the Great War mentioned in the movie is the rough equivalent of the Terraforming Wars.
Both the OVA and the movie cover the first 2-3 volumes of the manga so I don't think that alone would have piqued Cameron's interest, he obviously cared about the original series as a whole and planned a trilogy from there. The first arc is about Alita recovering her memory but that's just the setup for the bigger story and at this point you might as well read the source material to see where it goes.

Today were the last screenings in Amsterdam and Copenhagen. Guy on twitter was in the one in Amsterdam and said there were almost 100 in the audience. For the Copenhagen one, I checked yesterday and there were barely any tickets sold yet then - so I suspect it was a lower number.
It's playing in 3D in Berlin until at least May 5th. It's going to play in Kaufbeuren and Neufahrn (near Munich) on the next couple weekends (I assume in 2D). Then there's the outdoor screening in Cologne on May 18th and a Twitter-guy from Munich has already planned a 500 km trip to that one - so looks like it's going to be a bit of a meet-up of sorts for Twitter Alita fans.

North of the wall Norway. I've been without screenings for over a week now, and I'm not having any withdrawals or anything - but I'm looking forward to the next time I get to see it. Going all the way to Cologne (1500 km) to see a movie might be a bit excessive - even if Munich-chad is pretty inspiring.
I'll still pop in at least once per day to see if there's any Blu-ray news, and some time away will probably just make the next time I get to see it a better experience.

here - just want to clarify that I'd go 1500 km for an Imax 3D screening - or meeting friends - but not for a random outdoor 2D screening that might get rained on (even if the chance is low)
I've been in everything from almost flat affect audiences, to audiences who laughed at all the funny moments and gasped and sniffled. The only hint of talking was a couple of kids who were told to wisper instead of talk when the movie started, but they were too engrossed from the moment Alita opened her eyes to even wisper anymore.
The most interesting thing that happened was an evacuation due to a fire alarm. The only slight cringe was a dad with a kid who tended to be a bit too into the movie, in that he would laugh at moments that weren't supposed to be that funny. The only reason I noticed him is because of a post in one of the earlier threads about an user who noticed another user in the theater because he was over-exaggerating all his reactions to the movie - so thanks for that.
