I can't say what it's about in full, but one cool thing about The Matrix is how it demonstrates the power of thought, belief, and The Word.
The very Matrix itself is written in code. If The Matrix represents the sum of rational thought, you have to wonder how it is that human beings always find a means to escape it.
You could argue Zion is another level of the Matrix in order to create keep the cycle of human resistance within the Matrix under control; that might be the case in-universe or it might not. But what is definitely interesting is that Neo has to have faith and believe that he is the literal manifestation of 'The One' i.e The Matrix System, in order to die for this belief, and be reborn as The One to defeat the Agents.
The Agents are beings which subvert every system within The Matrix to keep it under control, with their ring leader Agent Smith hating the Matrix and essentially being the angriest Jew among them.
The Matrix is a Christ allegory wrapped up with great kung-fu and science fiction spectacle.
The first Matrix does the allegory sincerely. The sequels try to subvert this idea, which is why they're not as good.
