havent played #2, is the soundtrack still patrician?
Super Mario 64 where Mario goes "Here we gooooo!" after he gets the power star.
>literally just a rip off of The Wild Bunch
>surpassing anything
Stopped playing RDR2 half way through. Is it even worth it to continue on a regular PS4? Just felt like the game wasn't meant to be played on that system. Very laggy.
this and honestly after awhile it isnt the funnest game to play, if it can't excel at the core point of its own medium how can it surpass others.
some of the best dialog writing ive heard in a game though
honestly Kojima is a hack but some of the ideas touched on in MGS 1 and 2 have more purpose and relevance today than
>cowboy life was hard and the world was changing
>OLD GOOD
>NEW BAD
Cope and have sex
I mean, did you enjoy playing it? I game almost exclusively on PC @ 60fps and I got the game on a base PS4. Was perfectly playable for me.
Even Saint Denis wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be.
I bet you ten dollars Kojima had nothing to do with any of the actual intelligent dialogue and story design and is now dick-riding his fame expecting the general population to believe everything he touches is a masterpiece
Leisure Suit Larry
boards.fireden.net
Go home game of thrones tourist
Most of what made the first game's writing good is that the localization took a lot of liberties with it. Kojima got more strict about that in later games and the bad writing started shining through.
Visually it's flawless but everything else is quite shite
RDR2 was tremendous.
>Current Objective: Survive
The whole game was kino but the last mission is probably the best ending to a game I've seen.
It was pretty hacky, especially by the standards of their earlier games (GTA IV onwards). I don't expect the vast majority of Yea Forums or Yea Forums to be able to recognise that though.
youtube.com
Absoluely it is.
Yes.
It just felt more of the same. Saint Denis was the most laggy out of everything else. I actually had more fun doing matches online. But that got old real quick and I'm not paying for anymore PS+
*Is better than all the movies*
Lol, games should’ve never gone cinematic. The game is so fucking boring.
Wrong
not better than EP3
I loved RDR but RDR2 blows it out of the water in every aspect; story, soundtrack, character development, graphics, you name it, this game is kino
Still images >> moving images
Call of Juarez 2 has the most kino story line. The ending was great, until you realize it's a prequel to the first game and that it really isn't a happy ending
>felt more of the same
I mean, it was a sequel to RDR1. It did everything RDR1 but better. Dunno what else you expected
What was hacky about it?
Pretty much the only thing I thought was "hacky" was how you play as John in the epilogue as most peole predicted this a mile away based on RDR1s "twist epilogue" (playing as Jack when John dies).
But even then and even with me knowing this was going to happen, it was fucking amazingly handled. Best revenge section in any game i've ever played, the soundtrack was also 100/10 too So what was hacky about it exactly? It was an extremely well told Western
What was the Yea Forums consensus on Arthur Morgan?
The game made me cry like a babby
One of the most kino character in history.
Nobody has ever talked shit on Arthur.
Best written and acted video game protagonist of all time and these digits prove it
I dunno I've never been good at examples but there were various moments throughout the game that were either poorly done or bad ideas in the first place and cringy/misguided that I think back on sometimes such as John Marston's pose with the sawn-off in the barn that mirrors the cover for RDR1 or the abrupt change in tone and music when Arthur needs to put his horse down which was cheesy and saccharine. Earlier Rockstar was better than that.
>rides horse for fifteen hours to save a whore
woah.... truly quino /r/bros....
I'm actually amazed at how well written he was. I mean, everybody felt what I felt after RDR1. You know what I mean, everybody reloaded a save with John alive because FUCK playing as Jack.
What did RDR2 manage to do? Make me reload a save back to when Arthur was alive despite how much of a good character John was in his own right. God damn it
>"Thank you"
>"I'm afraid"
>"Arthur, you're my brother", "I know"
>"Thank you"
>"I tried, I really did"
>"I gave you all I had Dutch"
RDR2 truly is a game women will NEVER understand
Wait, you actually thought the scene where Arthur's horse died was "badly done" and "cheesy"? Conisder your shitty opinion disregarded.
Also, imagine talking about poorly done scenes or bad ideas in defense of Western movies. Lmfao. Some of the cheesiest shit out there that gets by on the fact that all men love the setting and themes surrounding the genre (family, brotherhood, outlaws)
You need to get on top of that user. It's a system seller IMO
Best zombie related piece of media of all time
>or the abrupt change in tone and music when Arthur needs to put his horse down which was cheesy and saccharine.
Get some taste faggot
>Earlier Rockstar was better than that.
Kys boomer
Have you actually watched a single fucking western?
Are you seriously implying earlier rockstar didn't have abrupt changes in tone (GTA San Andreas, GTA IV, GTA V) or cheesy/badly implemented ideas? Are you actually forreal my dude?
Literally "OLD GOOD, NEW BAD" tier argument
Not even close
Yea, all of the main ones and RDR2 shits on all of them combined except maybe Unforgiven.
What now faggot?
i beg to differ
only s1 counts
No luck but these digits will
Both set out to achieve totally different things. RE2 is a way better game though. But seeing this is on Yea Forums and one of the few places where literal movies like last of us can be praised, Last of Us was pretty fucking good even if it was generic af.
Combat/multiplayer was also severely underrated desu
Whoever was in charge of beards knew their shit.
>unforgiven
Why the fuck do people praise that movie so much? It was boring af
Don't worry nigga, gotchu

Unforgiven is kino kys
Mafia 3 gets a lot of shit on Yea Forums for gameplay and a black protag. The story is well done and the performances are terrific. Especially pic related. It is a shame that the gameplay loop was so repetitive because there is just great dialog
It was basically the first deconstruction of a western.
Either you're lying or you have absolutely shit taste.
RDR is a pastiche of all the great westerns without a thing of it's own to add to the conversation, it's not even a particularly great videogame, nevermind the best of it's genre
Sadie was a legit good character after Rhoades. She gets far too much shit
>tfw cannot relate to everyone who was devastated by arthurs death
arthurs death was sad, but i felt much worse when john died. it felt like my brother had died and i had failed him. played rdr2 and didnt even shed a tear for poor arthur
im a gril btw
disgusting
buddy westerns have been getting deconstructed for almost as long as they've been getting made, have you ever heard of Revisionist Westerns? There's examples of them stretching back to the '40s
LA Noire
It doesn't surpass anything though
Yea, didn't know it went that far back. But when Unforgiven was made westerns were dead outside made for tv movies.
Bloodborne

t. 19 year old with blown mind from video game
westerns are the boomer genre
No, I'm saying the writing in the previous games (after GTA 3 and particularly GTA IV and MP3) are better. If you've played those games and can't see it then you're either low IQ or a zoomer with no taste
>RDR is a pastiche of all the great westerns without a thing of it's own to add to the conversation
Who cares, still had better characters/writing and the added emotional depths that video games have over movies by the extension of the medium.
All you can do is cope, your old boomer core westerns with their cringy dialogue and chinky tier Clint Eastwood squinty eyed scenes aren't a match for Arthur Morgan and Dutch's plans.
> it's not even a particularly great videogame, nevermind the best of it's genre
97 metacritic and more sales than every western movie combined say otherwise.
Cope and have sex you boomer fuck
My only issue would be that the game repeatedly makes a point of telling you that revenge is a fools errand and her final mission with Arthur is her getting her revenge by killing the man that killed her husband. Which was satisfying but then why spend the whole game telling me pursuing revenge is a bad thing and Dutch is making a mistake for doing so when Sadie is literally fueled by nothing by vengeance?
It was bait all along, how foolish of me not to see it
>generic derivative western but in a shitty video game from
>surpassing anything
28 Days Later would like a word
Not even him, but calling things bait isn't a good way to prove your point
THATS THE WAY IT IS
>post yfw arthurs last ride
>Yes.
Well I disagree
>"older western films don't hold up so it's fine if this modern video game never did"
This video game does hold up and it's gross generation in income and rave reviews showcase that. Cope
>If you couldn't see the problem with the abrupt shift in tone you're a retard
Was no shift in tone, it came right at the time where everything was falling down in Arthur's world, he was a dying man and his horse that carried him throughout the game died mere moments before he did. No shift in tone, it was sad all the way through that mission and it looked bleak all the way through that mission as well.
You've yet to explain the tonal shift in two posts now, that's led me to believe that you're just name dropping as many vague criticisms as you can muster.
>t. 19 year old with blown mind from video game westerns are the boomer genre
Not an argument
>No, I'm saying the writing in the previous games (after GTA 3 and particularly GTA IV and MP3) are better.
Yea, this right here is why I think i'm gonna peace out of this discussion.
Can't really argue these vague statements with no actual arguments backing them up. If you think Vice City has better writing than Red Dead Redemption 2, then we're not gonna get anywhere.
if you want me to continue responding to you, screencap your copy of RDR2 with a timestamp. Because right now, you sound like a seething PClard who's mad that the Game of the Generation and the finest piece of Western media ever created, isn't on you rshitty dead platform

based
In terms of story/characters/writing I wouldn't even argue against it. It really was that good.
But when you have decades of source material to draw from like Leone's Westerns, then i'm not really surprised. It's just a really well written and well told story/plot.
Wrong.
the way arthur says "ooh dutch...he's a rat" and "i gave you all i had dutch" its just too much
Racist cunt
>>/pol/
Honestly, I thought the only good part of the game was Arthur himself. Everything about him was great. Everything else, story and characters, felt slapdash and incomplete or like half of it was cut and rearranged.
I just got it last night.
I havent played a Rockstar game since the GTA with the Russian.
They were alright but got tired of the same inner city street world shit.
There arent that many vidya game Westerns. This pretty awesome so far.
What's the movie equivelent of Ocarina of Time?
no I don't want fucking stats you absolute moron, I want literary analysis, theme, narrative, tell me why you think the story is so well constructed that it's simply utterly outpaces everything?
What makes Dutch a more compelling portrait of a gang leader in a changing world than Jesse James in the assassination?
What makes the image of the changed world of the west more interesting than McCabe & Ms. Miller, or Once Upon A Time in The West?
What makes Arthur's insistence on seeing his gang through to the end more compelling than the fatalist drive of the Shooting?
be specific, break it down for me
They were all hypocrites. Dreamed of lives they could never lead so they could get through their days. Hope was a big theme of the game
Well it was a nice topic while it lasted
Deep throat
1>2
>tell me why you think the story is so well constructed that it's simply utterly outpaces everything?
Because I think it did, now what faggot. The fact that you need to draw from multiple movies within the genre (Dutch's portrayal vs Jesse James, image of changed world vs Once upon a time in the West etc) to compare again RDR2 alone, says it all.
On its own merits, it's better than all of that outdated garbage. Cry about it
best western is The Good, The Bad, and The Weird, which surpasses RDR2
Lord of the Rings surpasses any fantasy game
Star Trek surpasses any SciFi game
The game was about how city dwelling liberal faggots were ruining the nation and shitting on freedom.
I think it's a pretty relevant message
I stopped playing in Chaoter 4 but I'm gonna pick it back up in 3 weeks and finish it. I'm looking forward to the rest of the kino story.
Trevor in gta made me sadder
>good the bad and the weird
kys weeb
>it’s a Yea Forumseddit thread
Yeah, it definitely is. I spent the first 30-40 hours just riding around hunting shit and listening to the music change with the scenery.
I used multiple examples because you said it's better than all of them, and the breadth of RDR2's pastiche does not make them deeper or smarter than the source material, there's just more of it. Now please, for the love of god, actually defend it, give some reasons as to how you came to that conclusion.
>I used multiple examples because you said it's better than all of them
And it is, just not combined. Nowhere did I make that claim because it's a ridiculous claim to make.
Keep crying about it boomer
This can't even hold it's own against Eatwood's or Wayne's weakest, let alone the best of the genre. They even ripped off The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, that game ain't shit, OP.
I guess the point was even after she got her 'revenge' it ultimately solved nothing. Jake was still dead and she was no better off. But still I felt like one of the big reasons for Dutche's selfish quest for vengeance. I guess the difference was he had other people depending on him and he put his personal goals before them where she didn't even sort of stepped up when the rest of the gang needed her.
I gotta say I loved the epilogue way more then I feel like I should have, even though I knew how it all ultimately ends.

you've completely ignored what I want you to do in favour of going after irrelevant details. Just defend RDR 2's narrative and thematic merits on their own basis, seeing as your clearly unable or unwilling to do some sort of meaningful comparison, despite being the one to draw a comparison in the first place.
>They even ripped off The Assassination of Jesse James
HOLY FUCKING KIKERY!!!!
JESSE JAMES WAS A REAL PERSON, NOBODY CAN CRY THEFT OVER THAT!!
>Hollywood owns real people
>This video game does hold up
Overall the story was all right. It certainly wasn't as good as in previous games. It was too long for what it was, the focus on the characters wanting to get out of the life negatively impacted gameplay (the farming segment was boring, pretentious shit that probably appealed to realism teenagers), the "cinematic" moments in missions lead to the game playing more like a David Cage movie than a Rockstar game, the depressing/doomed tone took the joy out of the game if only because missions got less and less fun as the game wore on, and there were certain examples of shit writing/tonal whiplash/fan wankery and dumb decisions old Rockstar wouldn't have made (probably because those people have left the company due to how difficult it is to work there).
But I can tell you're retards who think it's the Holy Grail of video games, probably don't have the experience necessary to see the flaws with it and can't accept it's anything less than perfect who feel a compulsion to defend it to the bitter end for whatever reason. I'll just put it down to a difference in taste and hope you grow out of it.
What's the movie equivelent of Metal Gear Solid 1?
There are plenty of classic games out there that aren't "fun" in the conventional sense. Right off the top of my head:
Silent Hill 1/2/3
Resident Evil 1/2/3/CV
Deus Ex
Planescape Torment
Fallout 1/2
Arcanum
Wizardry 4
Myst
Witcher 3
I haven't played any rockstar game but if they're trying to give you an immersive feeling for being in the west then I'm all for it
This is the true underrated Rockstar kino
I think the intro is fantastic interactive storytelling but I was honestly underwhelmed by the game.
But I already knew what would happen, not that it was particularly unpredictable.
Also pic related did the ending better, (and I’ve always wanted Andy Serkis to make it a movie/animated movie)
What the fuck, why?
Also, fuck SEETHING Yea Forumsvirgins that shit on everything that's not some indietrash meme game or weebshit autismo ""vidya"". Rockstar are the last AAA studio that literally makes only gold and GTA V was also fucking great

When you say this, which games are you referring to? Because I know you're not implying shit like San Andreas, Vice City, etc had better stories than RDR2. The rest of your post is critiquing gameplay.
This isn't Yea Forums faggot, this is Yea Forums, reread the OP then rewrite your critiques.

NV is a great game but there’s nothing about it that would be interesting or worth seeing in a film.
Tv series, maybe. Brought to you by D&D

Are you guys hyped for Bully 2? It's Rockstar's next project after RDR2 & will release before GTA VI which isn't coming out until 2022
Bullshit. Have you even watched the Wild Bunch?
Delusion.
KOTOR 2 is probably the best story ever told in a western game
>2022
GTA 6 isn't coming out till then or Bully 2? I haven't played the first one but I'd be hyped for any new Rockstar SP game. Although I do feel like the scope and scale of their games is making them stagnate and play it safe a bit too much in too many areas. They still make great games tho.
Doubt that they are releasing any games before PS5 so it will be after 2020 at best anyway
>female protagonist
I’ll believe it when I see it
I SEE A RED DOOR AND I WANT IT PAINTED BLACK
NO COLORS ANYMORE I WANT THEM TO TURN BLACK
I never played the first one so no
honestly I think R*'s games are really stuck in the past, their mission structure hasn't evolved one iota since the GTA 3 days and you still spend ages just tail grabbing NPC's asses instead of playing the game. All the best parts of RDR2 were the free roam parts, which is where Rockstar's obsession with pushing tech has actually benefited the game, with a handful of big highs during the campaign such as the end when American Venom starts or braitwhithe manor. So I'll have to say that unfortunately I'm not really hyped, Rockstar's style of game design doesn't really appeal to me, and I mostly enjoyed RDR2 because I love westerns, but if they pull it off I'm all over it.
(I'm and prior btw)
Bah, now i got to pick up RDR2. I was skeptical it could surpass the 1st
Eva Mendes was already casted as one of the main Protagonists for GTA 6, only way they could get out of the controversy for a Bully 2 would be to simply make the protagonist a girl
Yes, San Andreas and Vice City had far better stories when you think about the gameplay that results. Even the plots by themselves interested me more than the downfall of Arthur and his gang. They were obviously less realistic (which unless you're still a kiddo isn't a bad thing) and the writing itself (e.g. the dialogue) wasn't as good.
And I get you don't know this because you don't know a fucking thing but there's a concept called gameplay and story segregation and Rockstar have said that they try to keep the two as integrated as possible (which taken too far, as in RDR2, makes the game boring and tedious instead of more real and immersive). But really, regardless of game, if it's driven by a story then to talk about story is to talk about gameplay because the game advances the plot and the plot informs the gameplay.
I'm not sure why I'm continuing to argue with a bad faith retard who is arguing for its own sake in blind defence of a game that MUST be perfect because of how it made him feel.
I SEE THE GIRLS WALK BY DRESSED IN THEIR SUMMER CLOTHES

Isn’t GTA 5 still generating tons of money from zoomers?
Its kino, but doesn't hold water to Red Dead
My favorite Clint Eastwood western is High Plains Drifter.
I hope that Rockstar puts hot air balloons into the online or dlc. It's kind of bullshit they tease you with just one mission where you get to fly above the clouds.
just know that it's not as rooty-tooty arcade shooty as RDR.
>beat RDR2 and play 10 hours of the endgame
>realize you can aim down sights in first person by clicking the thumbstick
GOD FUCKIN DAMNIT IM SUCH A RETARD
huh?
They need to force first person at some point. 99% of the time i forget it's there. It's like the most underused/secrtive function
>you can see darth nihilus's face
wut
Why use it? It just limits your FOV in a game designed around a third person camera. I don't think the enemies are limited to seeing what's in front of them in combat either.
Bloodborne
Took 6 months on an Xbox One to complete it and never lagged a second.
The ONLY problem I have is I played through 100% good honour with him, and I can't play as a cunt with him because I can't imagine Arthur being a bad guy.
I know I have the option, I just don't want to take it.
He was written so well that you have an emotional response to your own moral options.
I really don’t think the story would even work if you play as a dick, unless they actually created specific missions for certain “karma” levels.
To me it just makes the environment look nice from a different perspective. And sometimes it feels like your character moves faster in that view. I get the game is built for 3rd person, and 1st person is just a bonus. But a mission or two that isnt sniping based where they forced you into the view wouldnt be bad.
How the fuck a sane person states that a game with shitty villains like Dutch and Micah is better than the whole western genre? Seriously, the whole structure of the game is a very simple narrative (long, but still very simple and with one-dimensional characters like Micah for example). Look at Red River, The Good The Bad and The Ugly and One Upon a Time In The West for example, all of them have better showdowns, climaxes, characters and narratives. Even lesser westerns like the Coens' True Grit is vastly superior to these games narrative and character wise.
Sekiro.
Fuck off with your tranny Yea Forumsedittor shit:
Yea Forumsump
Anyone who thinks this game has a great story is most likely underage or hasn’t seen any westerns. It’s extremely generic and the whole plot
Is literally just the gang going from one area to another, trying to lay low until Dutch fucks something up. I liked the gameplay and atmosphere but the story was boring and repetitive. I felt nothing when Arthur died and was glad to play as John again.
