I'm an audio engineer, and I fucking love digital. I refuse to offer tape recordings because it just makes my job harder and plugins can perfectly emulate it. CTRL+Z is the greatest invention in centuries.
I imagine it's the same for video editors. Digital is better because it's easier to work with, which makes it cheaper. Your issue isn't with digital, it's with incompetent filmmakers who don't know how to make their movies look good.

I'm a video editor, and any video edior with half a brain who is even capable of working with film will tell you that though digital is easier to work with than film, there's no matching film celluloid in terms of picture quality. Period. Maybe someday, but that day has not yet arrived.
