Jaimie, Brienne, Greyworm, Sam, Tyrion and davos were 100% useless in this battle. The others only earned some time so the sloth could do her stabby stabby.
This end could not have been worse. No epic battle speech? From Tyrion why not so he can have a purpose. Make Sam find the recipie of wildfire in one of his books so the citadel arc got a purpose. Make a fight between Jamie, Brienne and Jorah vs the white walkers, they were useless as well as Craster then. Do something about the dothraki there's a full season of dany trying to rally them, they shouldn't die in 30 seconds of battle.

the only good battles in the show are hardhome and the carriage train battle. the rest were all basically total shit, including blackwater. blackwater is the best battle in the books but the show version is like a pathetic small limp dick version of it.

There's still some stuff worth reading in the first book that isn't in the show, like Bran's dream. And being inside the characters' heads gives you a different perspective. I'd say it's worth a read.

Not really. 1 is the only truly faithful season. Even then it has A LOT of shit that is important that isn't in the show. It talks A LOT about Rhaegar and Robert's Rebellion and all sorts of shit the show ignored completely because they didn't want to do flash-backs. It also has some crazy and important dream sequences.
