I kinda feel sorry for them, though

They tried so hard to copy the MCU, and yet they failed...

I feel like they didn’t try at all, they had a luke warm reception to the first movie than immediatly jumped into doing team up movies to try to grab those sweet avengers bucks. Fuck the executives at warner then fuck Snyder

I mean Man of Steel was a good starting point.
Batfleck could also be a good choice, but he blew it.
Wonder Woman's casting choice was the first real sign that the whole thing is beyond repair.

and then this happened...

>Fuck the executives at warner then fuck Snyder

Snyder was the best thing that happened to the DCEU.
Why the hate?

Keep feeling sorry. They’re already putting together a more interesting story than Disney has. Or do you really believe it’s just a coincidence that Shazam puts so much emphasis on symbols in its story?

ezra is one creepy looking mofo

Why did they hire Snyder? The man is a hack. He has student film understanding of what makes a film good. He actually believes hiding 'meaning' in random scenes makes his shit good. No dude no, a random cross in batman asshole doesn't make your film good or deep

good, they should've stick with nolanes-que style, not bringing aliens and bullshit

we would've have 2 alternatives
"serious" DC approach and "childish" MCU approach. but instead there's 2 of the same

fuck them

Snyder’s films have meaning that guys like you absolutely refuse to see and they’re still building on them.

>mfw DC already won

DC, and the WB made a mistake in trying to compete with Marvel on the same tonal level. Since Marvel has been doing their song and dance for a while now, DC comes off as white noise to the general audience. They need to do their own thing. Play a more serious tone, and maybe people will like it.

DC redeemed itself with Gotham

>Have a super smash hit with dark knight trilogy
>Immediately make avengers garbage when you hire a fraud like Snyder to surpass nolan
Gee i wonder what went wrong

You can keep your cinematic universe thanks, I'm pretty happy with the kino I have here.

In a weird way yes, marvel fans at times complain the films feel the same.
Dc should have just allowed snyder to finish is trilogy, slowly reboot supes as a bit happier having to deal with media criticism.
Use all the other characters to add dept to the world aka suicide squad, booster gold, The question, ect...
Justice league should have ended at a part 1 about the box.

Mark Hamil Joker is best Joker.

>Comics are doing fine, and are slightly better than Marvel's
>TV shows that are promising
>Successful animated movies every year
>Videogames every now and then, but good videogames overall
>Movies starting to pick up

Yeah, WB shat the bed really bad with these franchises, but it's not like the characters are gonna dissappear forever. It's fucking DC, they're as classic as you can get. And worst case scenario would be Disney buying the DC characters.

WB only need to secure a casting that is charismatic and last more than 5 years, then the movies will do billions just by the name alone. I can't believe that WB and all the other of those studios that have been trying to build a CU haven't realized this. People will invest more in something they feel attached to.

At least WB already have some charismatic actors for the characters. Now they just need to release 3 movies a year for some years, then they will talk about success.

Who else here /monstersociety/

Big Red Cheeses need not apply

We’re getting a bait-and-switch. Supes didn’t come back legit, and he didn’t come back alone. He relished beating up Steppenwolf too much to be the genuine article. He’s enjoying it too much.

Nigga DC comics are leagues above Marvel. Marvel comics have been complete and utter trash for the last decade. Even if DC went to shit, they still wouldn't be as shit as Marvel.

having all your characters at your disposal was ultimately their downfall. marvel had to use b and c list characters and put real effort to make people like them. they could mold them any way they saw fit because no one knew how they really were in the comics.
it was just arrogance on WB's part

snyderman always had a sadistic side tbqh

>marvel had to use b and c list characters and put real effort to make people like them.
Can this meme die off already? Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Thor were, on a bad day, low A tier. Most of them had regular TV appearances, saying they were B and C is fucking stupid.

Mr. Mind is and always will be the fucking shit. Evil Incarnate has never been more adorable. I hope they give him his goggles before it’s all over with.

>low A tier
in the comics maybe but not in the mass culture

>Nigga DC comics are leagues above Marvel. Marvel comics have been complete and utter trash for the last decade

Fair point. Many people will tell you that they're not because nostalgia, but yeah, at least DC comics are readable, unlike Marvel's. Between their forced SJW trash, the new #1 every month and their supermega events that will change everything for about half a year featuring heroes fighting other heroes, Marvel has been unreadable.

Step back and think about that a sec. What if it’s all part of the plan? Give us a doubtful, neophyte Superman and a troubled, morally flawed veteran Batman while introducing the lesser-known heroes. It gives them all places to go both from a character as well as a story perspective.

Disney just shit the bed hard introducing Captain Marvel twenty years in their setting’s own past. Now people have to just roll with the fact that the most powerful entity in the known universe shared the galaxy with a Thanos for twenty years as he went on his “Balance Tour,” but never once even heard of him, apparently. Their universe is a big place until it’s inconvenient for them. Until proven otherwise, I’ll never not believe that both she and Panther got a huge box office boost solely from their proximity to Infinity War and Endgame.

>They tried so hard to copy the MCU
If they were trying to "copy" the MCU, they did it in the worst way possible. They hired Zack Snyder, a man who, regardless of your personal feelings about him, is a strong and very stylized director with unique and often irreverent ideas that are often at odds with the average moviegoer. Snyder is not in the business of "mass audience appeal". Why the fuck they would hire him to helm their attempt at copying the MCU makes no sense. After Man of Steel got slammed for being NOT MUH SUPERMAN, they proceeded to fucking meddle with everything that followed, which basically just began the snowball effect of bullshit, culminating in them hiring Joss fucking Whedon of all people to take a shit on the smoldering remains of JL, just hoping that, somehow, they might unfuck themselves.

WB clearly WANTED to copy the MCU's success, but went about it in a completely different way that was immediately rejected by general audiences. What followed wasn't them "trying to copy the MCU", it was just them trying to awkwardly jam a square peg into a round hole by chopping off the corners with the edge of a rusty spoon they sharpened on a cinder block.

>Dc should have just allowed snyder to finish is trilogy,
This. I doubt they have the cognizance or self-awareness to realize it, but all of the changes they forced through their meddling only made things worse, and Snyder's trilogy ended with a movie that even their original fans hated.

This
We already have a shared cinematic DC universe

Don't be an idiot. If you showed Captain America's shield, hulk, or iron man's helmet to anyone before 2008, people would at least know the name. They were never obscure. They had plenty of pop culture appearances in a variety of media at that point. I don't know why retards like you think they were unknown by the masses. Especially for the likes of Captain America and Hulk, both of whom had had films prior to the MCU.

>Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Thor were, on a bad day, low A tier.

At best, only Hulk and Cap could be considered like that, but Iron Man, Thor, Widow, Purple Arrow and all the other Avengers were B or C listers. Their comics sold like shit, their cartoons were cancelled after a few episodes, and literally nobody knew about them, and if they knew them, they didn't give a shit. Spidey and the Xmen were what kept Marvel alive. And let's not talk about GOTG, which were like Z-listers.

Marvel movies are forgettable crap, but it can't be denied that what they accomplished was more than a miracle. They could market characters that were uninteresting, turn them into pop culture icons and then dethrone SW.

The history repeats itself: they were about to die and their last hope, in this case the F4, saved them from bankrupcy and let them be a household name.

>Don't be an idiot. If you showed Captain America's shield, hulk, or iron man's helmet to anyone before 2008, people would at least know the name
>Iron Man's helmet

Cap and Hulk, sure, but Iron Man? lol no. At best, people would have told you that it was War Machine's helmet, and just because his appearance in MvC. Only people deep into comics knew who was Iron Man.

>booster gold
Wasn't that the dog sidekick from jingle all the way

Dude Iron Man had a cartoon in the 90s at least, alongside Fantastic Four and Spiderman. Was it DCAU tier? No. But he had enough of a presence for people to say "Oh I recognize that character". Hell people even associate the song with him. B-Tier is Black Widow and Hawkeye, but people knew Iron Man at least. I don't know why peoplee act like he was so obscure prior. The first real "risk" marvel took was Guardians.

>real effort
Everything after iron man 1 was mediocre
Phase two (besides winter solider) was straight up unwatchable
It's all marketing

>all marketing

And that’s why I think it won’t stand the test of time. It’s hollow. There’s no philosophy or even any real themes to speak of. It doesn’t make any real impact on language and to me, that’s the biggest tell of all. To me, that’s the real indicator of cultural impact.

The characters that are propped up and presented as the “wisemen” of the setting, like the Ancient One and Odin are among the least-quoted because the writers didn’t use them to impart anything that holds up as real wisdom, just exposition.

Meanwhile, people continue to quote Yoda, Obi Wan, Vader, the Emperor, Morpheus, Jor-El, and even the most well-known voice of wisdom for all of Marvel, Uncle Ben, has yet to even be mentioned by name in the MCU, let alone actually quoted.

Are you guys deliberately ignoring the fact that successfully advertising your films to the point where 20 films come out and none of them flop is also impressive? Why do you latch on to this argument like it's an embarrassing secret?

I’m not saying it’s a secret. I’m saying that it’s all sizzle and no steak. Such things don’t have a great cultural shelf life.
