Thor Ragnarok was already Planet Hulk. And now that Disney can reboot the X-Men they could eventually do World War Hulk as him fighting and killing all the X-Men was a big part of that story.

World War Hulk never killed anyone. He never meant to kill anyone. He came back and defeated them all to make a point.

Hulk could have probably been the one to take down the ship and get some solid hits in on thanos but they needed something for captain marvel to do.

The hulk is a really simple character and sort of an elemental personification of anger, but that also happens to be a lot of fun. Nobody actually cares that much about the macguffin.

It wasn't just about the fight either. Hulk had been having a blast in Ragnarok. No puny Banner around for however long he was on the Battle Planet. He liked his freedom. Hulk felt as though he had every right to Banner's body as Banner did, he resented being called out like a dog whenever they needed him and locked away when they didn't. That's why you get Professor Hulk in Endgame.

It'd be a huge shock and surprise if they worked out a deal with Universal and he gets his solo movie to close out his story on. He didn't really get an ending or anything. Cap, Stark, Thor, Hawkeye and BW all had clear beats and endings. Hulk got good moments, but he got nothing.
