The Star Wars Mandalorian series might end up a bigger deal than the theatrical movies. Clone Wars is coming back. Also there's a big Wheel of Time series coming from Amazon. Those things might be the next big thing after GoT, at least they hope so.
For theatrical movies, I think we'll see a move away from tightly connected universes like the MCU, to movies that can be enjoyed in a more stand-alone fashion. Maybe trilogies.

Star Wars and the MCU aren't ending this year, it's the end of the Skywalker Saga for Star Wars and the end of the Infinity Saga for the MCU, but it's not the ultimate end of Star Wars and the MCU. It's just the end of an era for both Star Wars and the MCU. I don't know anything about GOT though, because I haven't seen it and I never will. I'm looking forward to possible Alita sequels in the next decade though, especially since I enjoyed watching the Alita OAV when I was a kid.

Spoilers; the robocop-tier droids she's supposed to be fearful of, she kills about 8 at once without getting hit; and the big bad dies in one hit from abject grrrrrl power. You've likely already seen the webms, I don't need to say the rest.
Forced romance, unrelatable characters, illogical world, poor villain, poor acting overall. The only saving grace is the mediocre animation, which is only serviceable when you put it in the context that it isn't used to appropriately pepper scenes where relevant akin to Mad Max (another grrrlfest, albeit with good action that time) but instead is the basis of the entire fucking screentime.

It's also a compact yet soulful action movie with a cute protagonist based on an excellent manga series. There's alot to love here.

This is true, but there's plenty of political themes like the difference between the rich and the poor, oppression, justice, and so on. The point is that these themes are eternally relevant, and not something which is only relevant to 2016 (which is where Hollywood seems to be stuck).

I read the mangas recently and in the follow up story (where alita wakes up in zalem) there is a civil war going on since people learned that their brains are replaced by a computer chip once they turn 19 I think. Now, they are not supposed to know that so the system overlooking zalem went haywire and started killing all people. But then you have ido and his wive who are from zalem and apparently still have their brain (in the movies at least we see vector presenting the brain of Ido's wive to alita, supposedly its hers). Which means that's something big the filmmakers missed in that movie desu.

That comes from the anime OVA, which missed it too. There are ways to get past this, like using a brain-looking interface. And remember that it was Nova who did the operation on Chiren, probably in Vector's or Grewishka's body - so Vector does not need to know. Nova could have put some other brain in there too, and Vector wouldn't even be lying.

I was going to post some webms of the action scenes, but we hit image limit so I guess I have to actually type something.
It's a movie that takes itself seriously and presents it's material with complete sincerity which depending on your level of jadedness can be pretty refreshing in this age when everything is either a tongue-in-cheek collection of quips, fourth wall breaks, lampshading, and/or subversions of your expectations. It feels like a movie from 30 years ago, you get both that James Cameron script and focus on the Sci-fi elements and that Robert Rodriguez directorial style. It's a good blend and a fun watch. Feels a bit like Titanic if instead of a boat with a high and low class divide you get two cities one slum on the ground and one floating in the sky and Rose was secretly a cybernetic killing machine from up above.

I got a bit of a Hunger Games feel to the Motorball competitoin too, but while I found the Hunger Games world muddled and fantastical, Alita's world seemed more real. And Motorball is more reminiscent of a classic gladiator fight than a reality TV show.

Was it explained how nova survives in zalem then? He is aware of the scheme the system deploys and he had a chip instead of a brain too which means since (in the movies) he is in zalem the system should be able to attack him. I hope they resolve this in future movies.
