This movie was pretty good
Lobster Thread
Yeah, it made me wonder if he just takes roles that are a little dryer would his career improve considerably.
I prefered Sacred Deer over this and The Favourite but it was still really enjoyable. Probably going to try and watch Dogtooth next, it looks like Lanthimos has a really promising career ahead of him.
>Sacred Deer
That movie was funny
Was it meant to be?
fantastic first half
obviously didn't know what he was doing in the second half
How so?
Definitely not it's fucking bleak
It's meant to be funny. All of his films have dry and dark humour and Killing of a Sacred Deer is not an exception.
I feel like people missed a lot of the humor in the lobster. I heard a lot of "the second half didn't fit with the first" but it definitely did and it just shows me they didn't get it. Sacred Deer looks utterly without humor, but it seemed weird that a guy who made the lobster would make a movie devoid of humor, even if it was serious.
Depends how sick of a person you are you are. The dullness of all the characters for the situation were amusing. The ending had me laughing hysterically.
Yes Lobster was quite funny. Killing Of a Sacred Deer is also funny, i find the deadpan delivery of some lines to be extremely funny. He did the same thing in his other films so i'm sure it's meant to be funny.
so, do you think he blinded himself and joined her back at the table?
Everyone in this thread saying that sacred deer was funny is bluffing or something. I watched that movie in theaters and most of the audience was audibly cringing, recoiling and a good number of ppl left early.
absolutely no. Taking account of his character throughout the movie, a person who runs away from organizations that aren't in his interest, he frankly ditched her.
second half held up a lot better upon second viewing for me. but yeah first half is superior. could've been stretched into a tv show
not bluffing. if you had previously seen any of his movies you would obviously know that it was funny at times. it could also be described as "horror", though I would not
he blinded himself but couldn't find his way back lol he fell in the hallway (it's in the deleted scenes on the dvd)
It was slow and dumb and shitty
They had no sense of humour then.
>didn't think the first half was funny
>didn't think the second half was sweet
go back to watching your children movies lad
>not laughing when he talks about jerking off his father in his sleep
the absolute state of society
>The scene where Martin praises his dad's method of eating spaghetti by twirling it with a spoon only to realize everyone does that
absolute kino
Dogtooth is really funny and fucked up at the same time.
How similar are Dogtooth, The Lobster, and Sacred Deer? I was considering watching them sequentially.
Lobster was alright. First half is great and then went down hill for me once he escaped.
Favourite was a banger all the way through. Haven't seen his rest.
You can tell they are made by the same person, is how similar they are.
I agree, the second half is white illustrates all the actual meaning in the film by its contrast with the first. If someone "didn't like" the second half then they didn't engage with the film sufficiently to discern its meaning, and were just shallowly laughing at the silly dialogue.
watching them sequentially is a good idea
