In before Muh Taxes, Game of Thrones never showed a true working economy. The constant political turmoil and leadership turnover would make merchants extremely wary and trade routes would have been rife with bandits and thieves.
The greatest trade routes in history only happened during stable empires and stable leadership.

No one ever said GoT was better, but it used to at least be different.
The two franchises are mutually exclusive. Thinking one is better than the other is entirely subjective.

LOTR showed more lore and made more sense in 3 movies than GOT did in 8 seasons.
GoT is a field study in the exact reasons why LotR did not include sex or morally grey characters.

People liked GoT because it was a different, more grounded take on the fantasy genre. GoT is made for TV LOTR now. Jaime is Aragorn, Tormund is Gimli, Jon is Frodo, Bran is Gandalf, Arya is Legolas, Theon is Boromir, and if you can't make the connection that Sam is dollar-store Samweis you're a goddamn retard.

I never did. I thought there were some good aspects of GoT but LOTR was always king. The books are still pretty good but the show is HIV positive.
