It's not as good as Infinity War. The action and the drama were inferior, Thanos also lacks any presence in Endgame. But the hype for it alone will generate trillions.

The thing people don't seem to get is that there's no way it was going to underperform. It's a decade long shit show. Doesn't matter if it was a good movie or three hours of staring into Hulk's asshole it would still make its money.

How did Avatar gross so much? It's just blue people with a bunch of effects. Literally who characters with forgettable story. At least with capeshit it's a bunch of iconic pop culture icons fighting each other.

It was in theaters for 6 months and had almost zero competition, while also being the first movie to really nail 3D. Also, I believe the exchange rates to USD were so high in 2009 that it propped the international gross.

As for why people liked it, I think it was a combination of being superhuman, a tribal setting, the religious aspect, and the avatar concept in the first place(that you can just hook up to this machine and start a new life)
