The drill sergeant. He was dealing with a guy who had fucking snapped, and was armed. Not only was his own life in anger, but everyone in the barrack (Pyle was planning to shoot as many as possible). It was his responsibility to calm Pyle down and try to reason with him. You don't fucking yell and insult someone aiming a gun at you.

Apocalypse Now is much more dated, espically the beginning with the whole hurr he’s a badass with a troubled past so he’s an alcoholic and where going to give him and special mission corny mess. All in all apocalypse now is just Dude Vietnam Dude it ain’t me maxed at 100%. Kubrick is known for being autistic but this movie has 10x the assburgers. FMJ is an intellectual psychological examination, an in-depth look at an all too familiar scenario territory for Kubrick. Even look at Platoon, which at least had some sort of point with its central Christian religious allegory, is a million times better than
