What went wrong?
I remember watching the first season i thought it was a masterpiece, and i genuinely loved it.
Watching the last few seasons it felt like i watching a fucking marvel movie. And it keep getting worse.

easy, its the dialogue - source material was written beautifully. tv scripts are traditionally rushed compared to a 2-3 year written novel. source material which took over a decade to write is now gone and the tv writers have to fill the gaps. its pretty simple. however, im still looking forward to this season and can completely understand the drop in quality of the writing - as long as they focus heavily on production, it should be alright

Honestly I think it turned to shit after they ran out of book material. I wouldn't say GRRM is a particularly amazing writer or anything, but when you write for a book you can't rely on visuals to make it interesting so it at least has to be decent. At the same time I think they were sort of forced to dumb down or simplify all of the plot lines and characters to untangle the mess Martin left them, otherwise the show would go on forever.
