The plot to Endgame just doesn’t work without Ant-Man and the Quantum Realm unless Captain Marvel can turn back time by spinning counterclockwise around the Earth. In the main MCU timeline (let's call it M), we watch the Avengers win and Thanos is defeated.

Captain America then goes back to return the stones in other lines, stopping any alternate timelines from being powerless without them or otherwise fucking them up beyond repair.

In one of these or a completely different one (lets call this one X), he goes back to 1940's America and marries Peggy Carter and lives his life until old age. He does not return to M timeline, then, as going "back" in time and making any change would necessarily mean it is not M timeline by default. He then leaves X back to M once his life is nearing its end, and meets the last of the Avengers there to pass off his shield to Falcon in 2023 M.

It's not explicitly laid out but it's not a leap to figure out either.
