Fair to say it was well adapted and I doubt I could name a scarier PG-13

The shining

ok yeah the shining is better but the ring got very close

Fuck you. You know I can't.

The ring hasn't aged well. Only creepy thing about it is the images on the video. Naomi has a nice bum in it too

The sneed

The horror genre hasn't even improve since.
Idk what do you mean by 'it hasn't aged well'

a thriller if anything

It scared the shit out of me when I was younger, the phone even rang after the film was finished. Watch it today, it isn't as good as it was back in the day I'm sick of this bullshit. Please, explain to me what a thriller and horror is

The original is better, that said the novels are so much better, Sadako being a literal virus is a great concept that i was never properly adapted.

god damn Naomi is so fucking HOT in this movie

That does scare the hell out of alot of people. The video is scarier with the lady just staring at the camera

The Thing

The American Grudge is on par with it.

Being startled =/= being scared
Shocking =/= horrifying

Shit like this is why the horror genre is long dead

This movie had some good The Shining elements of psychological horror such as that one.

Those quick creepy shots in the scene that happens too fast to even let your brain process it. That's a really effective scareness trigger

Ringu > The Ring

Oranges and apples

I think it has aged very well. Sure some of the effects are dodgy but the appeal of the movie isn't just the girl coming out of the tv, it's the unrelenting dread and inevitable doom that seems to continue throughout the film. The horse suicide is unforgettable, it ends an exposition-heavy section of the film with something really surreal and horrifying.

The tape scene is unironically a great surrealist piece:

REC

That's so corny compared to the original though. All those 3D graphics of cells and overt things like fingers in boxes.
I mean the original wasn't perfect, but it's still better than this and felt more like a 'lost home video' rather than a carefully stitched together montage.

Not really. This is one of the rare times a remake has surpassed an original work imo.

most genres haven't user.
