Who would you cast?
Who would you cast?
Chuck
Deens
Keanu and it already got made it’s called The Matrix
YOU MEAN JOHNNY MNEMONIC
No I mean The Matrix
You know I could see Keanu as Armitage
Or maybe Bruce Willis or Denzel Washington
Johnny Mnemonic was a live-action Shadowrun game.
THE MATRIX 1999 LACKS THE CORPORATIONS AND THE DRUGS OF NEUROMANCER
No you retards Neo is Case. Trinity is Molly, Armitage is Morpheus, Wintermute/Neuromancer are The Matrix. There’s even a Rasta controller station called Zion.
Read a book you poser faggot. Just because hurrr durr muh corporations doesn’t mean you’re an adaptation of neuromancer.
>JUST BECAUSE THESE MAJOR ELEMENTS ARE LACKING I'M STILL RIGHT EVEN THOUGH I'M WRONG
YOU READ A BOOK THEN WATCH THE MOVIES AGAIN DUM ASS
Slim Wintermute
The characters and themes are the major elements. Things like corporations are just entities and vehicles to carry characters and the story. It’s basically akin to the setting. Literally read the book.
Anyone that reads Neuromancer will say it’s closer to The Matrix than Johnny Mnemonic.
Always thought of Michael Wincott as providing his voice
D R U G S
WHERE ARE THE DRUGS IN THE MATRIX
CORPORATIONS ARE CENTRAL TO THE GENRE NEUROMANCER SPAWNED AND ARE WHOLLY LACKING IN THE MATRIX
Read the book you zoomer faggot. You clearly just read the Wikipedia for cyberpunk and then just picked off random things that you think are integral to its themes.
YOU READ THE BOOK, ITS FULL OF DRUGS AND CORPORATIONS
AND THE MATRIX? NOPE
GOOD GAME NO RE
t. zoomer who hasn’t read the book
Shitty book. Pretentious as fuck
t. GUY WHO LOST AN ARGUMENT ON THE INTERNET
Go tell your Fortnite friends about it
I have read the book
Neuromancer is not The Matrix
They are both broadly speaking "cyber punk" but that is it
But Neuromancer is much closer to The Matrix than Johnny Mnemonic. Thanks for confirming something that no one was arguing about, Retard #2
*DABS ON U*
AFTER JOHNNY MNEMONIC TEKWAR IS THE CLOSEST THING TO NEUROMANCER
DRUGS, CORPORATIONS, VIRTUAL REALITY
IN THAT ORDER
look at this tryhard zoomer
This book is so far removed from how modern real-life technology turned out that, if it was adapted into a film without SIGNIFICANT changes from the source material, it would essentially be "science fiction" with a huge heaping serving of straight-up fantasy.
This is a novel that didn't even foresee mobile technology. Cyberdecks and Gibson's concept of "the matrix" are a quirky at best (and laughable at worst) when considered from a modern perspective in 2019. If this movie had been made in the mid to late 90s, it would've been passable, but now? A joke. An iPhone is far more advanced than Case's Ono Sendai Cyberdeck.
The idea of "jacking in" to some sort of anachronistic version of the Internet to experience a hilariously outdated vision of "virtual reality" is utterly passé in a world full of always-on internet connected mobile devices capable of augmented reality.
80s and 90s era cyberpunk is fun but the authors of the material missed on their predictions more often than they hit.
Yeah but it’s cool as hell to this day and the diction and prose of the book is so unique that it’s still worthwhile to read.
I've been saying this for years: Ruby Rose as Molly Millions.
Blame boomers.
Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, it's a good book, for sure. It's just that it's largely unfilmable in the modern era. Making a movie out of this would require significant changes from the novel, therefore longtime fans would likely throw a fit.
I hate the fact that you're right, this would be good casting.
I think there are themes that are very doable for this day and age. All you need is a very advanced and tech integrated society that’s heaviliy dependent on robotics and holographics and HUD displays. Similar to how the game ODST has the city’s AI helping you out on your journey, the movie Case can similarly see “hints” of an intelligence behind the automated life of the city he lives in. And as he slowly gets involved with Armitage and Molly, the weird occurring with the city “talking” to him increases as he gets closer and closer to the truth. Once he finds out about Wintermute and Neuromancer the movie can even play with the audience’s perception of what’s real and what’s not in the movie. Either way, it would be a cool way to do the Neuromancer story. It’s like a Matrix, but more about a Matrix of influence, rather than a Matrix of full on simulation.
Idris Elba as John Neutromancer
The ending of Neuromancer is literally Elysium’s ending minus the happy ending.
Practically everyone failed to see mobile phones coming. Just ignore the bit where Wintermute lights up the payphone bank; there's no major plot point that hinges on lack of access to wireless communications.
Contemporary AR is a tech industry meme. If a brain machine interface like the ones in the book existed, it would be huge.
That's exactly how it should be done. "The matrix" as an augmented reality that is used to influence society, with two AIs at the center of the narrative. Case and Molly and the other characters are little more than pawns in a game being played by AIs. Ultimately, the movie should be about AIs manipulating humans, with the human characters being chess pieces moved on the game board by the AIs.
In the end, the warning should be that artificial intelligence is a straight-up threat to humanity, and should be regulated, if not outright outlawed. In the end, Ted Kaczynski was right.
Further - the novel actually suffers for being close to the mark on corporate corruption and dark online subcultures. Consider: nothing about the Panther Moderns seems novel or shocking anymore.
>Contemporary AR is a tech industry meme. If a brain machine interface like the ones in the book existed, it would be huge.
Are you dense? The entire concept of "jacking in" to a virtual or augmented reality is so antiquated, I don't even know why I need to point it out. Technology exists, today, that can influence a person's brain to think, hear and see things that are fed to them via wireless technologies.
Even beyond that, and more simply, it's incredibly easy to use internet media to brainwash people into believing things that obviously aren't true. Any competent AI could create tweets, Facebook posts, reddit posts, YouTube videos, etc to convince people of some kind of "truth."
Do I even have to get into the very real modern phenomena of people altering their own DNA with things like CRISPR when they aren't even truly aware of the very real negative possibilties?
And CEOs seeking immortality and living in mental simulations for centuries only to pop out into reality for a day or two to check up on the company is also not so far fetched now...
>Just ignore the bit where Wintermute lights up the payphone bank
It lights up an Apple store instead
>IMAGINE BEING SO WRONG UR STILL BUTTHURT ABOUT IT
LMAOING@U
Welcome back zoomer. Done playing your Fortnite game?
VICTORY ROYALE, AS USUAL SKRUB LMAO
Nice, and have you been dilating as well?
Yeah, no shit. The only two books in the series basically shit on the tech from Neuromancer, even though maybe 15 year max pass by that time. The Ono Sendai is literally considered in the same light as we see Speak'n'Spell toys by the third book.
Cyberpunk can still resonant with today (since a lot of what people fear is essential the world falling into cyberpunk-lite); there's no reason to think that jacking in and the matrix couldn't be translated to mobile tech.
NOT SO FAST FAGGOT
ZOOMER IS ALL YOUR GETTING
BTW HOWS IT LIKE BEING WRONG LMAO
Ouch, sounds like the dilation hasn’t been going so well. Sorry to hear that. Hopefully that doesn’t get in the way of your final high school exams.
>a lot of what people fear is essential the world falling into cyberpunk-lite
the world is already "cyberpunk" my dear. everybody is constantly "jacked in" to social media. a fucking reality star is president of the US. megacorps and billionaires dictate what we're supposed to like and who we're supposed to fuck.
RIGHT BUT BEING SO WRONG AND LOSING BECAUSE YOU WERE LITERALLY THAT WRONG, HOW DOES THAT FEEL LMAO
Make sure to do well on your exams so you can pick a good university to go to. Have you decided where you want to go after high school?
