The version of Avengers: Endgame in theaters is the "Damage Control" cut. IE one that pretty much purges Carol's role down to the bare minimum required to keep the thing coherent.
The decision to go with the Damage Control Cut was three-fold:
1. Disney was humiliated with the reveal that they used third party proxies to buy up entire theaters to juke the box office numbers for Captain Marvel. Disney never acknowledged it, but the backlash over it pissed a lot of people off and put the fear in the necessary people to make them go with the Damage Control cut.
2. Disney did the math and realized they could have their cake and eat it too. Give the fans what they want (a version of Endgame that doesn't de-evolve shilling Brie Larson as the new face of the Avengers). Then manipulate them into buying the Carol-heavy Feige cut on DVD, by way of calling it "the extended cut".
3. Certain people with power are starting to realize that fans are right about Brie Larson being a cunt. Feige is still 100% smitten with her, but the suits are starting to realize they screwed up casting her and have decided to run with the Russo approved Damage Control Cut. Simply to cut off any fan revolt, over them ruining the finale.
It's one of the reasons why Brie was such a bitch on the press tour for Endgame. She was told, that they were going with the Damage Control Cut and was lashing out. Brie's contractually gagged from complaining about it publicly; breaking the NDA would piss Disney off and give them the excuse to recast the role of Carol Danvers.
Feige was none too happy, but he got his revenge though. Originally there was going to be an end credit scene. One involving the various cosmic beings of the Marvel Universe, to tease the Eternals and the Celestials. Once word came down that they were running the Damage Control Cut, he ordered the end of credits scene cut.

A couple of months back on Reddit, someone claiming to work for Disney said that Disney had two cuts of Avengers Endgame ready to go for release. One in the event that Captain Marvel was a critical and commercial success and one if created a huge shitstorm, so great that it could damage Endgame the way Last Jedi harmed Solo.
That poster also said, that the Russos and most of the Avengers cast hate Brie but that Brie and Feige are super tight. And that the Russos defied Feige, after he forced them to include Carol in Endgame, by filming a ton of alternate footage to effective create two versions of the film. First of all, you have actors that have been working together on projects for a decade that have formed their own work cliques and Brie had the misfortune of being cast in a solo film with no sidekicks or team to speak of outside of the designated friend character and a magic cat. If these are true, it could mean that they correct their mistake in the next several films.
If they were partly trying to lift up the Captain Marvel film because of the Fox purchase, then they won't need to do the same for future films.
If we use Star Wars as a measuring stick, we can see that (without ever admitting it out loud) they are completely undoing every progressive, postmodern thing in The Last Jedi and going back to things they know their fans will love (Lando, Luke as a force ghost, Palpatine). The trailer LITERALLY contradicts the core theme of TLJ about killing the past: "No one's ever really gone."
