That doesn't mean jack shit for the journey to the ending and nuance of the plot. The show is cutting corners, destroying nuance, and making everything as appealing for a mass audience (aka Normies) as possible. Everything must be succint and easy to explain in the TV show.
If GRRM ever writes again the books will stand above this shitshow by a mile. Either way his involvement in the show is directly correlated to the quality of it, and since he left it has been standard, basement level filler ordained only to cause a sensation upon release and disipate into obscurity.
