Can any oldfags here recall the O.J trial? Just how big was it?

Was the coverage unprecedented for the time?

My mom likes to tell the story of how when she was in the hospital about to give birth to me the whole family was sitting in the room with her watching OJ get chased by the police live on TV.

My 4th grade teacher talked about it all the time. That's all I really remember. She wouldn't shut up about it.

non-burger here: did he do it?

I think it's pretty much agreed upon that he did it. Didn't he write a book about it?

God i hate OJ, his case is one of the few things i hate of the 90's, that nigg was fucking guilty goddamit

>Tonight on Hard Copy...this guy and the trial of the century.

We watched the verdict in class when I was in middle school. Teachers actually wheeled in TVs to watch it while pretending it was a lesson about civics.

Trips of truth, but everyone knows that.

on the news 24/7 on every channel, even local news
neighbors, friends, family having endless conversations chock full of their banal opinions

It was a pretty big case I think everyone assumed he'd go to jail because he was black but he got off because he was rich. It's funny looking back and seeing this as a turning point for equality. It triggered the fuck out of people to see a black get off like a white dude you have no idea.

I KNOW, its just so fucking frustrating

I still remember my father smashing the window out of anger when they declared him innocent.

Watch the award winning OJ: Made In America, it explains a lot, especially how people saw OJ being let free was retribution for the Watts Riots (LA whatever). It wasn't really about OJ it was just about the black jury wanting to save a black man from jail despite him absolutely being guilty

A generic case turning into a political racial controversial.. That season is amazing

>OJ trial shows that a jury can arrive at an impartial verdict despite media coverage
Pretty much word-for-word what they taught us in school

Tonight show and the dancing Judge Itos

It blew my mind when I realized he was in naked gun.

My dad called the cable company to complain about the Bronco chase interrupting his shows.

Why shouldn’t a man be allowed to kill his wife if she betrays him? I swear white people used to be so much cooler

It was reality TV before we actually had reality TV. A&E (which was considered higher end programming at the time, not even close to what it is now) actually broadcast the trial live on TV which was unheard of.

The DNA evidence effective concluded he did it. The jury let him off because of race issues with the LAPD. Never fucking trust black people on a jury, they did the same shit for Micheal Jackson. Only white people can be trusted to be indifferent to shit outside of the case and judge the case on the merits presented by the prosecutor and defense attorneys. The only group in America that doesn't use racial collective-bargaining is white people and this is why they get surprised and absolutely raped by the government and justice systems when they get put in its gaze.

When high speed pursuit chases on live TV went popular.?

In Europe they was a show calls COPS who use to broadcast them (probably some years later after it happend )

>The DNA evidence effective concluded he did it.
There was NO DNA evidence you idiot. OJ visited the house DOZENS of times to see Nicole and the kids.

>huwh*tes still seething about OJ

There was blood in his Bronco dipshit

Attached: ap120425067408.jpg (1280x1470, 209K)

Kato Kaelin was the biggest name in the world.

The gloves had the blood of both Nicole and Ron Goldman on it. The glove was at OJ's house, not fucking Nicole's. Fuck off faggot, learn the details of the case before you talk shit. DNA proved the case.

No. The evidence was circumstantial
Everyone talks about the black jury but forgets they were mostly female. The "OJ got off because of race" narrative works if it were a jury of black men, but women sympathize with women unless the guy is a Chris Brown type. And OJ is no Chris Brown. So they must have thought he didn't do it.

>this Lost Highway bait thread again

I tried explaining this to my fiance and she wasn't cool with it.

Based boomer

There was nothin on TV for like 2 years except this

Nicole was white, that's why they sided with OJ.

>they did the same shit for Micheal Jackson
The prosecution got laughed out of court in the MJ trial the defense intentionally avoided playing the race card

Course he fucking did, had a guilty look on his face throughout the entire trial

I just remember getting home from school, grabbin' a Caprisun and some fruit roll-ups, ploppin' down on the bean bag chair, turnin' on Fox all set to watch the new Power Rangers episode, and then FUCKING OJ SIMPSON TRIAL FUCK. I genuinely hated that shit, and still to this day don't give a fuck if he did it or not. Just wanted to watch Power Rangers.

same, i was absolutely seething that i couldn't watch power rangers.

Was just gonna say this. That and the riots were live in class

a daring synthesis

it was the biggest news story ever aside from the space shuttle blowing up. in this case, the verdict time was announced so the whole country shut down and watched tv or listened to the radio. i was a contractor installing a process flow computer system in some factory in idaho and the whole plant shut down for like 20 minutes when it was announced. iirc it was like 2pm or 3pm and people were pissed off like you wouldn't believe. of course, at that time everyone in idaho was still white.

>Prosecution: We need a police witness with an impeccable history to represent the case!
>LAPD: We gotchu pham

He was the first officer to respond and arrive at the scene he was critical for the defense so they didn't really have a choice

The glove fit and he wrote a book talking about what he'd do if he really murdered her.

I know, I was just making a joke about the LAPD. They were incompetent then and now.

I remember someone writing "THE JUICE IS LOOSE" really big on the blackboard in school the day he was acquitted. One of my friends was assmad going around saying shit like, "Dammit, he was ACQUITTED. That literally MEANS he's INNOCENT!" Everybody laughed at him. No one thought that fucker was innocent.

35 yo here. It was all over tv for a solid year. They stopped elementary school class to listen to the verdict.

oldfag here. media consisted of radio, magazines, newspaper, 4 major networks (might have been 3 at the time, Fox was in its infancy and kind of a joke) and not everyone had cable. very, very limited internet, downloading a picture took minutes.
this case dominated EVERYTHING for months. all newspapers, all magazines, and all news-ish television & radio. everyone involved became a household name. i even remember the testimony of a witness describing a dog's noises at the time of the murder ("a plaintive wail").
in my life the only story/event to surpass OJ in domination of the media was 9/11. everyone was fixated. there really is no frame of reference for people who were too young.

we watched the verdict live in elementary school

i even remember a parody song, probably from howard stern or something, set to "YMCA":
>OJ, why did you kill you wife?
>I said OJ, why'd you use that big knife?
>....
>....
>We're living in OJ's LA
>I said we're living in OJ's LA

I think it's more likely they would have been jealous of a pretty white lady and glad she got got.

I don't really remember it other than after the not guilty verdict my dad knocking over the tv, smashing it, then breaking picture frames, plates, kicking everything the fuck over like a bull in a china shop. It was scary as fuck and I cried a lot.

I got poison ivy while at the park the weekend before the trial started. I didn't know anything about oj. I was very fucking excited to stay home, watch cartoons, and play vidya for a week. Oj trial was on every fucking channel all fucking week. I was fucking mad.

>grew up in poor rural family
>dark clouds on the horizon and thunder
>parents try to check up on the local weather
>BREAKING NEWS ON THE OJ SIMPSON PROCEEDINGS
>father and both dogs die before getting into the safety of the basement

i used to love saturday morning cartoons. they only used to be on saturdays, mostly before 10 am.

excuse my autism

the chances of someone being able to afford the same pair of bruno mali shoes in such an outlandish size that were identified by prints at the scene were astronomically low. the nog obviously did it.

I remember watching the news coverage in class in 5th grade. Never really got all the details.

youtube.com/watch?v=rH1vaZXgbd0

people said he took the wrap for someone else

word on the street from soprano-americans said his wife owed a lot of money to coke dealers

I just remember the bronco chase being on TV, and then like a year later at school they wheeled a TV into the cafeteria for the verdict and some black kid jumped up and started dancing.

like calm down lil homie u in the suburbs yo dad is a dentiss.

kek

i was too young to give a shit about it but i remember every adult was obsessed with it
