Not only in the Marvel Universe there are relics that many pursue because of the supposed powers they grant. Thanos, one of the great villains of Marvel, did everything possible to get a golden gauntlet that thanks to the six Gems of Infinity made him practically invincible. A story that is now in the forefront for being the main enemy of the company's cinematographic universe. But, what if the dictator Franco had already tried before?

It sounds like a Series B science fiction story, but it has a real base. According to the legend, Saint Teresa of Jesus was exhumed ten months after her death, dating from 1582. Her body was incorrupt, so the parish priest in charge decided to cut off his hand and give it to the Carmelite nuns as a sacred relic. The hand was inserted in a kind of golden silver gauntlet with precious stones embedded in it.

Time passed and the gauntlet went from convent to convent until reaching the beginning of the 20th century in Ronda, in Malaga. But during the Civil War, the republican side attacked several churches, among them the one of the Carmelitas, and took control of the relic, to which they had baptized like incorrupt Hand of Santa Teresa de Jesus. When the city of Málaga took the troops of the national side, they found the piece and took it to Valladolid, where it was exposed together with other reliquaries.

They even say that when he fell ill in 1975 he asked that his room be converted into an intensive care unit so as not to be separated from it. After his death, the relic of Saint Teresa of Jesus returned to Ronda, being currently in the convent of La Merced.

Taking into account the great aesthetic similarity between the uncorrupted Hand of Saint Teresa of Jesus and the Infinity Gauntlet, it is not so farfetched to think that Jim Starlin heard about it and served as inspiration to write the saga he published in 1991. The two relics are visually very similar, the two supposedly confer supernatural powers and both have been the object of devotion by two characters eager to submit everything around them.
