There should be trade networks--there are always trade networks, otherwise people wouldn't sell swords in places that don't have ore deposits, etc. But those trade networks don't make sense, because the various factions settled in places (and thrived!) that weren't actually connected to anywhere by geography. Instead the countries and various cities and so forth are plopped on a map without it making any sense.
