Why does every anime have supernatural and fantastical shit?

Lets shout out the down to earth animes. What are some good ones?

Chin shan

Monster, one of the best I’ve ever seen

I did enjoy that, though it was quite a bit overlong.

>Hayao Miyameme

No thank you

Welcome to the NHK, Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor, Planetes, Monster, Perfect Blue, Grave of the Fireflies, Millennium Actress.

Kids on the Slope is kino

The one you posted, Millennium Actress, and Grave of the Fireflies are the best.
All of Satoshi Kon's stuff are great.
More recently Makoto Shinkai but his stuff is mainly supernatural and fantastical. I guess not 5cm/s.

This guy knows what's good. PLANETES is a good one.

>animes
>s
yikes

Thank you. Yea Forums throw shit at me, tho.

Satoshi Kon is chock full of fantastical magical realism though

>down to earth animes
>PLANETES
smdhfam

>waah why can't my cartoons be like real life
Because they're cartoons you moron. Fuck you

Sanctuary (only one movie more manga)
Would ping pong club be considered fantastical?
Would jin roe wolf brigade?

>daisy ridley
what

Whisper of the heart is my favourite non magical ghibli movie.

>down to earth
it's called "slice of life" and it's the most boring, estrogen-filled shit ever.

Kaiji

since when did down to earth mean major depressing shit.

Nice, thanks!

Planetes and Perfect Blue are on already on my watchlist. I'll look into the others for sure.

I haven't seen Planetes yet but sci-fi can be down to earth. There is a fine line though and anime tends to leap across it.

Most anime is for teenagers and manchildren. They don't like realistic dramas.

>he doesn't like comfy anime
fag

Romance stuff like Usagi Drop or Sports stuff like Yuri on Ice

Most anime isn't even about supernatural shit

Why would you animate boring "down to earth" things? The point in animation is to put to the screen things that can't possibly happen in real life. If you're just going to tell a cozy romance between two normal people, just hire two normal actors, buy a camera, and save yourself a shit load of money.

You're welcome, senpai.

Just because they're cartoons doesn't mean they need cyborgs and talking pigs and matrix-like kung-fu.

Sometimes I just want a real story and with beautiful hand drawn art.

What the fuck? I type "senpai", not "sempai"

>it's called "slice of life" and it's the most boring, estrogen-filled shit ever.

Slice of life is a genre, retard. I'm asking for realistic stuff - which doesn't exclude genres like thrillers and the like.

Alright, I've been goof.

>The point in animation is to put to the screen things that can't possibly happen in real life.

Hand drawn art cannot happen in real life. That's the point.
You don't need talking pigs and shit to appreciate the art and animation.

>what is a dub

Then why does it invariably look like shit? Cinematography is an art form in itself, but otaku don't care, because their idea of art is that book with their favorite character in fifteen kinds of bikini.

It’s symbolic though. It’s not like the characters are literally time travelling into the actresses past in Millenium Actress, they’re just being told the story of her life.
That said, both Paprika and Paranoia Agent blur the lines of symbolism and reality so much that it kind of becomes irrelevant.

Also hand drawing realistic but epic stuff can be cost and time effective. It's easier to draw large scale scenes (big armies, building deconstructions etc) than it is to film it in real life.

>Then why does it invariably look like shit? Cinematography is an art form in itself

I don't understand. Are you saying hand drawn animation invariably looks like shit and has bad cinematography?

We're talking about anime which in english refers to specifically japanese television animation.

The wind rises is really good

>Whisper of the heart is my favourite non magical ghibli movie.

*watches trailer*
>little girl that can fly
>talking human-cat hybrid

They're just dream scenes that last like a minute.

>Why does every anime have supernatural and fantastical shit?
Have you not seen the abundance of moe harem high school shit that include none of those elements?

lurk more newfag

Tokyo Godfathers
Jin-Roh
Black Lagoon
Jormugand
Basically all of those slice of life shows with cute anime girls

Harem and SoL are pretty much fantasy. Real human being don't act that way.

Wow, just like how human beings don't act like they do in movies and TV shows

>Why does every anime have supernatural and fantastical shit?
because japs are soulless insects who live depressing little lives

Planetes
Space Brothers

and given dubs too, cherish user. cherish

Go to the anime board you fucking retard.

Teevee is an ayy colony

Back Street Girls

Some of my fave straight-faced/grounded shows/films;

Master Keaton
Jin-Roh
Aku no Hana
Patlabor 2 (if you can look past the more exaggerated mechs)
Kino's Journey (some light fantasy elements but played straight and rather realistic)
Ping Pong
Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise (alternate-Earth world but more or less played straight)

but they show anime on TV

>posting the Daisy Ridley dubbed version
Cringe

oh yeah, i remember usagi drop. i don't typically gopher slice-of-life storytelling like that but i enjoyed the experiment of a female writer writing about a male caretaker (and i thought it was based that she had the adoptive daughter fall in love with him, regardless of the convoluted "akshually they're not related" subplot)

it's just hotter having that idea come from a female writer and not another man

>soulless people but their entertainment is full of soul
really makes you think

>anime
>soul
>copypasted characters
>copypasted plot
>copypasted animation

Only Yesterday, as you mention. A masterpiece.
Monster, also mentioned. Also a masterpiece.
Hanasaku Iroha
Your Lie In April
Shirabako
Air
Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu

soul doesn't = originality

"No!"
Why don't you put your autism to better use and try to curb the capeshit threads running rampant, you fucking loser. This is a cute singular thread, it's not causing any harm

Just watch Hana Yori Dango like any normal person

Any early shoujo. Daddy long legs, Glass mask, Anne of green gables etc.

Houseki no Kuni

Attached: Maxresdefault (1).jpg (1280x720, 109K)

He said no fantasy shit
Yet it was really good

Ocean Waves is the best slice of life Ghibli

Nichibros
Chio's School Road
Shin Chan

Kaiji and Akagi series

The main character is a toddler who sometimes imagines fantastic scenarios... but it's pretty much slice of life shit.

Attached: mirai-quad-landscape-600x450.jpg (600x450, 38K)

There are so many fucking anime boards on this website, why don’t you post there?

NHK ni Youkoso

It's a fucking joke because Planetes is set on a space station dimwit.

because fantasy will always be better than the real world

that was directed by Takahata you retard.

>down to earth
just go outside

Based Yokohama-bro...

Everything is good except fireflies. Maybe I hate that movie because my dad died in the hospital the next day

Kind of boring and pointless but it’s comfy to learn what Jap nostalgia is

Samurai Champloo and Ping Pong: The Animation

Not all of them are YKK. Most SoL are pure shit.

>champloo
>realistic and down to earth
nope

Basically Lupin in general
