It's use in the film is extremely jarring and its meant to be that way. There is almost a very low amount of swearing in the shining, just a lot of hints, suggestions and threats with swearing splashed in. and then out comes the word nigger in a surreal, aggressive and threatening scene that is weird.

To say that using the word nigger means nothing either says youre a socially inept retard or a liar. normal people don't casually say the word nigger in reference to anything let alone say it in context of an actual black person, its extremely rare and is used for either a joke, a personal conversation between two friends, a specific effect in a film, or if youre a black person in real life. Your feelings on the word dont matter when youre talking about its use in media because its all for effect and from a specific place.

I'll give you the non-meme answer. There's essentially a hidden layer to this film that has to do with the relationship between the negro and the supernatural. There are three people in the entire movie who have the ability to shine: Danny Torrance, Dick Halloran, and Dick Halloran's grandmother. Since the majority of these characters are black, I think the ability to shine has some sort of relationship with voodoo or hoodoo.

I think Jack Torrance's perceived racism (like when he says "white man's burden" or "nigger") is justified in a spiritual sense because he doesn't want these evil, uncontrollable forces interfering with the hotel.
