I just finished Steins;gate 0 a few days back. The post credits scene was amazing, I teared up.

It assumes too much is kept in status quo when D-mails are canceled, the ending also messes with the rules since the active worldline becomes set due to an observer effect.

Steins;Gate weirdly takes a lot of inspiration from Primer.
Primer has more consistent time travel rules.
I enjoyed S;G more though, and it does more with it's time travel than Primer did.

It's not that kind of VN. The plot direction is the same, and most of the "routes" are really just bad ends.

If you're interest is in the their take on time travel, the VN goes into much more detailed explanation, and shows more of the time travel overall. The anime is good if you want something with a quicker pace that is more visually interesting.
