this is somewhat true, literally the only cool characters of marvel are Spider man Wolverine X men and deadpool.

I didn't know that, but today I do!

>nobody gives a shit about the other Marvel characters

Well in 1998 this was true but they should have bought X-Men.

They weren't wrong. I doubt they could have done what Marvel has managed to do though.

I mean spiderman is THE most recognizable superhero of all time

yikes

still nobody gives a shit
the only difference is that they're marketed now

from the 80s ahead the avengers were nothing until a short period on the end of the 90s, with busiek and perez and early 2000s, with the ultimates.

spider man, x-men and even daredevil and the punisher were more popular on comics. i remember that after john byrne nobody cares about fantastic four - wich works more like a sci fi group of explores than as super heroes.

Pretty accurate

I only care about spiderman

I remember people laughing at the notion of an Iron Man movie.

marvel killed the appeal of spider-man by making him a twink, though
combine that with the fact that he's part of an ensemble now, reducing his time in the spotlight

>superman
>batman

Come on man.

It's pretty true, Spiderman is the only superhero which people can reliate, not some super rich chad

Those guys are boomer characters nowadays
I bet Iron Man is more popular among the general population

The question you want to ask really is, would Sony had succeeded in doing what Marvel/Disney are doing at the moment?
The answer to that is no.

Without the Disney machine Sony MCU wouldn't have survived after first avengers movie

My 3-years old nephew loves Batman, Spider Man and Superman.

superman himself has never been super popular but he is still the most recognizable super hero in the world

it's no wonder that spider-man, x-men, daredevil, punisher and fantastic four all got movies during this era
out of the avengers, only hulk was popular, and captain america was iconic but pretty much a joke

People like RDJ
I question if ironman will remain popular

Sony didn't want to do a universe, no one was doing those. The best you were getting was cameos and nods. It took a crazy idea and risk to startup the MCU, and if it failed somewhere the solo movies didn't rely on each other.

Sony's Spiderman kinda flopped not only because of Spiderman 3 but because you couldn't just keep doing a villain of the year style with these superhero movies. Same shit new face.

I like the idea of Sony writing "nobody gives a shit about the other Marvel characters" in some official contract though.

Sam Raimi Thor would have been kino.

also, hulk and captain america got movies way before the rest of the avengers too, as a result of their obvious popularity over the rest

Sony's Spider-Man movies have made like five billion dollars in total so I don't think they were necessarily wrong.

>"Nobody gives a shit about the other Marvel characters"

And that's still a thing. Spiderman and the Xmen are perennial, but the Avirgins will fall into obscurity once again now that their lead actors are gone, because that's the only thing that got people's attention.

The only one I can see surviving this is Captain America, and that's because his symbol is wore by almost everybody because how aesthetic it is.

Spider-Man trumps them all. I hope Disney gets the rights back, Sony doesn't know wtf they're doing

Amazing Spiderman 1 had such a cool suit.

without the Disney machine this MCU wouldn't have survived The Incredible Hulk and First Avenger flops, and there would only be an Iron Man franchise
We're on the wrong timeline

>Nobody gives a shit about the other marvel characters
well they weren't wrong.
and they cast tobey 'dribble lips' maguire and andrew 'look at me i'm acting' garfield in the role, who gives a shit

I mean it's true, no one does. They just care about the actors playing them. The film making this much money isn't from comic book fans, it's from nu-fans that only watch the movies. I remember watching Iron Man 2's post credit scene, only like 2-3 people actually reacted to the hammer, everyone else was like "???" Thne you watch Thor, and see Hawkeye, and everyone was still like "???". No one gives a shit about these actors, just what they do in a film.

He would have cleansed Asgard of the non-whites

>killed the appeal of spider-man by making him a twink
WRONG, I want to fug him and I'm not even gay

>superman himself has never been super popular

Studios buying IPs don't want to build franchises like that, they want things that are already popular
Marvel Studios only made the MCU because that's all they had to work with.
If they still had the rights to all the characters, they would be doing Spider-Man and X-Men movies first, and maybe a shared universe would never happen

the most inspiring thing about marvel cinematic universe its the fact that it was made out of scraps.

they get the right of a bunch of characters, enough to have the core of the avengers and decide to take a chance and create an universe.

they have so little to lose that they bet on robert downey jr, who already had fucked up his first comeback on ally mcbeal and the former human torch to be captain america.

and it work.

>twink
he's a 15 year old kid what do you want him to look like you pervert

>It took a crazy idea and risk to startup the MCU,
Not really. By this point Disney realised they could just artificially generate hype for their movies with internet based marketing approaches.

If anything, capeshit universes are just an example of a company marketing literal dogshit and making billions off it, because they threw half their earnings into convincing morons that these movies were somehow worth caring about.

I have never felt more alien than I did watching The Avengers. It's one of the most banal, nothing movies I've ever seen, and I still cannot imagine a single functioning person giving that movie more than a 5 out of 10, or being capable of describing even a single scene in it with vague detail a few years after seeing it. These movies are safer than feeding kids ice cream.

>superman himself has never been super popular
it made the news when he died in the comics

disney bought marvel studios after the success of iron man and a few of their movies, it wasnt a disney project before.

and if it was that easy star wars wouldnt be the disaster that it is.

kek

Marvel only have a few cool characters like Spiderman , Deadpool, Wolverine, Ghost Rider, The Punisher etc the rest are literal whos so they are not wrong

only Iron Man actually. They bought it in 2009. No Marvel movie came out during 2008-2009 except for Incredible Hulk which was a flop. But the other movies were already in production/post production so Iron Man 2, Thor and First Avenger were still distributed by Paramount

it's true though, nobody would've cared if sony were the ones to make the iron man movie

>I bet Iron Man is more popular among the general population

Dude, Superman is eternal. He's the superhero archetype. Any reference in any media related to superheroes have a guy with a cape and the external underwear.

Iron Man could be more popular right now, but he's more popular because he's in a movie almost every single year until this day. Starting next year it's gonna be downhill for him.

As someone who loves spiderman but hasn't seen any of the disney marvelverse movies, this is true. Ironman and Captain America are boring as fuck, hulks entire thing is the he is big and mad. Thor is alright I guess.

Spiderman, Daredevil, Punisher, Moonknight, and some of the xmen are the only marvel characters worth a damn. Id rather be getting Fantastic Four movies than the avengers shit.

fuck you faggot

Thing is, they were right at the time.

Looking back , I'm surprised even Disney made it out of phase 2. Winter Solider is the only decent one in there

>Sony
>Kino
>We
>The most hated company in Yea Forums

mark millar and bryan hitch did a good job at updating the avengers on THE ULTIMATES.

a little too edgy and try hard by nowadays standarts, but samuel jackson is nick fury because he was on that comic book, simple as that.

alan moore said: there are no bad characters, only bad writters.

i agree.

what eventually is going to happend with marvel studios is a complete reboot.

collin farrell could be a decent iron man, kurt russell son could be a decent captain america and on and on.

I wonder why Fantastic four movie never really "worked" . I liked their comics.
Stretchy powers is kind of a tough sell in live action though

The latest one had the potential to be pure kino but they pussed out on the whole horror/thriller aspect of it and reshot a bunch of shit to be generic badness.
Ultimately, Fantastic Four isn't carried by the titular heroes but by Doom. And thusfar they've failed at nailing Doom.

>superman himself has never been super popular
The Donner Superman movie made over a billion dollars. It sold more tickets than any Iron Man movie

youtu.be/L7vIjpogmts

Spider-Man is future proof. Because the future is brown.

Ya seethe?

fantastic four should be a sci fi movie. put the concept that was imagine at the 60s, updated and you could do a shit ton of cool stuff.

the really hard thing is not make stupid a guy who strechtes.

the problem here is X-MEN. fox destroy the franchise - who could be bigger and better than marvel studios itself - and now disney tainted marvel with so much HIV that i guess it will suck.

>nobody gives a shit about the other Marvel characters
Snoy wasn't wrong, Disney just managed to market the shit out of nobodies after Iron Man.

this is underestimate the importance of kevin feige.

feige is the guy who was excited about the post credit scenes of the forst guardians of the galaxy because howard the duck would be there.

he really like the material and he knew how to handle it.

disney marketing did what for star wars? its not that simple.

It managed to sell really bad movies.

I wish they had done this just to rob black people of Black Panther.

I wonder what the 1986 Spider-man movie would have looked like, made by the same people that made Masters of the Universe and Superman 4

Cartoon were like this too in the early-mid 90s. On Fox Kids, The X-Men and Spider-Man shows were mega popular, even the Silver Surfer show got a couple seasons, I think. But their Avengers cartoon? That didn't last long at all. No one even really remembers it, I hardly ever see it brought up in pertinent threads.

>stating, "Nobody gives a shit about the other Marvel characters."
Zoomers will actually believe this is what was officially stated by a Japanese megacorporation making a $7 million deal.

>nobody gives a shit about the other Marvel characters
And that's true, they just didn't have enough imagination to pull off a spidey universe.

Still if you buy Spidey you can benefit greatly by buying the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Daredevil since they have good dynamics with the webhead but they weren't smart enough to think of a shared universe.

they were correct. I still haven't watched marvelshit

Still below Captain Marvel.

I mean it’s kinda true. Would the MCU be half as popular if they had different actors?

Asgardians are jewish, though.

It's not like they would have known how to use any of them properly.

He and Disney unironically spun shit into gold (in terms of marketing viability)
Besides Spiderman and X-Men (maybe Hulk), nobody gave a fuck about other Marvel shit. Now no one gives a fuck about DC

Except Spiderman, which is the reason superhero movies became popular blockbusters again

>now no ones give a fuck about DC
Aquaman making a billion puts a hole in your theory
