I do not even think that Thanos is necessary evil or a villain, but most normies would agree that he is not presented as a protagonist. But so fucking what? Why the fuck cannot he win, even if he is evil?
What, you are going to tell me that historically bad guys have never won? I can guarantee you that most of the time wars are won by the guys who are more likely to play rough, murder, kill, make you a slave, and generally are not going to turn the other cheek.
IW was interesting because he was a complex character that did everything possible to win and won. Now we have to watch some capeshit where for the 9001 time, the "good guys" win. An they are not even guys - now it is shitty heroes like captain marvel being the "good guys". You just watch this shit and keep asking your self "are we the baddies?, maybe the bad guys did win in our history line".

He technically did win considering they had to go to the past to get the infinity stones because after all he did destroy the stones of the present after the snap and went on to start growing crops.
well.... i though about that and while I agree, I am asking about more modern villains - they are all either lame, or "evil" and they lose 99% of the time - it is so fucking boring. Make a good villain, make him complex, make him right about stuff and make him win

This has historically always been the way movies go. "Bad guys" just don't win. I'm sure there are fringe cases where this doesn't hold true, but they'd be an exception to an abundantly true rule.
I would have appreciated it if some characters were like "No dont kill him. He feels remorse for his sins." While others. Like thor and marvel practically wage a civil war just to get revenge on him.
