Stop and think on this one for a second:
He decapitated Thanos, not in combat, not in defense of others, but pure anger and vengeance. That's not a heroic action. It's essentially no different than what we see Kylo Ren do at the beginning of TFA. That's in no way a "righteous kill." It's murder of a helpless, non-threat in a fit of anger. That's antithetical to everything a character like Thor is supposed to represent.
At that point, the character assassination was complete. Everything else is just diarrhea icing on the shit cake.
He beheads Thanos because he is stricken with grief and rage since Thanos killed all of his friends and half of his people. If you're going to find something to complain about, find something better.
