Magnus could be about his studies into the warp and meeting the emperor, and becoming friends and learning more and more about the universe. Movie ends with a faint vision of the burning of prospero or something.

I didn't get into 40k till several years ago, but before then the only sci-fi I liked and enjoyed was cyberpunk because all other mainstream sci-fi franchises and stories were too "feelgood" and misguided naivety utopia shlock. 40K was entirely different and that precisely was the charm that drew me to it.

It wouldn't be the Tyranids themselves that would make the movie interesting, it would be how the guard or even the Astartes realize what a destructive and near impossible to defeat foe they have. The interaction between them, the struggle, would be the interesting part. There is a lot of gruesome gore to achieve with the nids that would definitely captivate the audience.

Im just throwing ideas out there, a smaller movie might be better because a larger studio would neuter anything fun. Also you would have to get all in not most factions represented in that movie

It starts off with cheifly opposing Tau and genstealers, who are good, classic Alien Empire, and Gribbly Xenos, without too much of the spooky stuff mixed in, then introduces Orks and Necrons, as new Aliens, then finally gets to Chaos, on their own. There's also the shorter stories that could be used to be TV show tie in, or B movie (Good I miss B Movies)

Space Marines are a myth to common folk and you can have all kinds of intrigue about people worshipping traditional gods who are actually chaos. Do it lowkey and use actual 40k stuff sparingly. Independent story with hints to the larger manner of things.

Stuff like this is how people want a Halo movie done right. Focus on the smaller stuff - a single planet, a series of battles, and have the Spartans (like the Space Marines) maybe show up in the end, like this mythological, legendary event

>A Terminator-esque one the run mini series with a family hiding from someone. The reveal is their girl is gifted and to be sacrificed to the Emperor

>Eisenhorn as is, or a Watered down mini series.

>"Warriors" Necromunda style

>High Society Terra political drama (think GoT) mini series R-rated, playoff is a conspiracy and they try to summon a Slaaneshi daemon prince.

>Scavengers enter a ruin on a forgotten planet and find more than they asked for ( Think Indiana Jones)

The child grows up in a world oppressed by racial and hierarchical systems, he being raised at the bottom, and suffers from periodic nightmares. He grows up during a time of social unrest, movements starting to question the status quo. His young life sees all the misery of those around him, and makes a few close friends. Through adventures in his childhood, he is ripped away from his family by the state and sent to die in games of blood and death. He defeats all his foes during a game and is picked up by minor family of status. There, he is given a life of entertainment, his owners seeing him as a lesser breed. He sees two world's, the juxtaposition he seess grows into disgust in his heart. In time, the cruelty of those in power becomes too great for him, and challenges the Lord of all Lands. He is defeated, but impresses the Lord to grant him a place in his plans. Over time, he considers the young man to be a worthy son and successor over his own blood, in no small part to the young man's perception on how this corrupt society values it's nepotism and supremacy

Eventually, the man, now fully grown, leads a rebellion against the powers that be, and during the final conflict, defeats a creature of pure rage and anger summoned by the highlord's own son, motivated by jealousy and envy, blinded even striking down his own father

Though weary and exhausted, the man now sets out to deliver a speech to the now liberated people. How no longer will the evils of imperialism and supremacy chock out the spirit of mankind. Though after his speech, when he sleeps that night he is woken by the most intense nightmare he has ever had in his entire life. He is then told of strange ships coming from the sky. Make it from the point of view of a survivng remembrancer based on the Horus Heresy breaking out. No Horus no Emperor just the Ultramarines being portrayed as monsters and then the word bearers fall from grace.

Get people interested without the overarching gods of the Imperium being the focus. Eventually once you are a season or two in you can extend this to the wider heresy. Drip feeding in new conflicts and chapters. Have the Istvaaan 3 massacre a build up that only the *audience* sees coming in the end of Season 2 or 3. Showing the Astartes that figured it out post battle and then how they survived.

It would have to be multi year, long haul tv series ala game of thrones. Movies do not have the time allowance for long story plots and scenes. The Heresy series could showcase to the wider public the very basis of why and what the Imperium is. We have to be serious here most people will need to be spoonfed the Imperium first. A Eldar focused movie would just be seen as anime. Orks would be incomprehensible. And you would need to decide if they WILL TORK LOIKE DIS or just grunt in their own indecipherable language.

The Scouring of Monarchia to me is the best starting point as you can show off the Astartes as the walking god men/angels of death and have the Emperor off screen as shown in the video above as a demigod without equal to explain the compliance of the word bearers as their won people are mass slaughtered.

gaunts ghosts could make great action films, eisenhorn could make good detective films. i think you have to go with source material focusing on humans, almost anything Horus Heresy/Space Marine related is just going to be extremely expensive gorefests with too much cgi and too little character development.

You can't do something like the heresy because only existing fans would care, making it financial suicide. You have to make an original story, and set it in the universe. Play up the mythical elements, swords and sorcery and magic.
