Issue #750 drops tomorrow, so I thought it’d be appropriate to look back at the Scarlet Speedsters career. Talking points
>When will Jay Garrick matter again?
>Why has the solo book been painfully mediocre to shit these past few years?
>Wally becoming The Flash Who Sits and getting his family back
>Thoughts on Avery Ho, The Flash of China?
>Thoughts on Year One?

I hope there's some good stories. But I've given up hope on the other speedsters returning
Isn’t it kind of weird how DC awkwardly keeps Wallace West, The New 52 version, around? It’s like they know full well creating him was a mistake but can’t retcon him out due to racism accusations
The solo book has been mediocre, because there is nothing that drives Barry the way Wally did. Wally was constantly trying to live up to Barry's legacy. It wasn't always at the forefront, but it was ultimately the underlying goal. I guess for Barry, becoming someone his dead mom would have been proud of is a goall, but that hasn't been relevant since the Zoom arc from the New 52.
Anyone else liked the Speed Force as it was before being overused?
At first was just like the heaven of the speedesters and the source of their powers.
But now what's it?
I liked the Waid Speedforce. It was important every now and then, like in the Savitar arc. Now every few arcs seem to be about the Speedforce. They should at least bring back Max if they're gonna keep this heavy focus on the Speedforce
How was the Speedforce different from now?
From what I understand The Speedforce was created the moment Barry had the accident, and it’s a pocket dimension that fuels the passage of time for all creation.
you're wrong buddy, the speedforce was always there since it's one of the Souce Wall's inner forces.
Jay Garrick had it too
No one, not even the writers know what the Speedforce is. They constantly change its nature and how it works.
Well I like him now as he's the only sidekick these days that still teams up with his mentor
The Speedforce used to be heaven for speedsters. Every dead speedster became part of it and once they were in, there was pretty much no way out anymore. The time Wally joined the Speedforce but actually got out was seen as an impossible achievement by Max Mercury. Nowadays, Barry seems to just run in and out of the Speedforce whenever he feels like it. The Speedforce doesn't feel as special anymore, not like how it was before. I can accept the Death of the Speedforce arc, that felt like a logical continuation of the old Speedforce. But during the New 52, Barry went in and out of the Speedforce multiple times and in Rebirth he did it at least once (when he was told Wally died in Sanctuary and Barry went into the Speedforce to look for him).
Ollie and Emiko used to team up all the time when there was still a Green Arrow on-going. Wallace definitely showed up the most in his mentor's book out of all the sidekicks though
Wait, so Speedesters that use the speedforce can't go to heaven or hell?
Depends on the writer. Barry was actually in heaven in the Kevin Smith Green Arrow story. And Reverse Flash was scared of going to hell in that animated Suicide Squad movie. But in the Flash and Impulse books, all speedsters generally go to the speedforce when they die
You forgot the part where Black Flash fucking runs into the room to collect you and return the speedster to the source. Nightmare fuel
Okay I get it.
But how does it works? Everyone can be a conduit to it?
And it's power is just from the dead speedesters? Without them the speedforce wouldn't work?
It’s not fueled by speedsters, it’s just the borrowed energy returning to the source and their souls going along with it. Please don’t make this a thing where we dissect how the speedforce works, because we’ll be here all night with no good answer
Oh yeah, that's true. Imagine being a speedster who just averted his own death, only for a super fast apex predator zombie to enter your room and try to drain your lifeforce.
I think pretty much everyone has the potential to become a speedster nowadays. Iris did it, Grodd did it, a shitload of randos did it during the first Rebirth arc.
>Please don’t make this a thing where we dissect how the speedforce works, because we’ll be here all night with no good answer
Hey, we need something to discuss other than Barry Bad and Wally Good
How about this; are Max Mercury and Jesse Quick worth bringing back?
Hell yeah they are. Someone needs to take care of Bart once Bendis stops dragging the Young Justice crew through the Multiverse for every arc. Jesse would also be interesting, just because she is pretty different for a speedster. More important question is, should Johnny Quick be brought back?
>When will Jay Garrick matter again?
When DC feels like giving flash books a sales bump for a bit while they prepare for their next line of Joker , Batman and Harley Quinn comics
>Why has the solo book been painfully mediocre to shit these past few years?
Because it’s mostly just Williamson setting up future plot threads as if he’ll be taken off the book after the current arc he’s been writing. I will say that he writes a hell of a good Eobard tho.
>Wally becoming The Flash Who Sits and getting his family back
He’s back! And look they’re back, now we can all pretend HiC and Rebirth didn’t utterly ruin Wally for the next decade.
>Thoughts on Avery Ho, The Flash of China?
She cute, I miss the JLC
>Thoughts on Year One?
Pretty lame to be honest, it should have been it’s own stand alone story rather than being just another arc in Flash.
The four people who have called themselves the Flash
>and also Wallace for some reason
I guess this means Jay will be back soon. Maybe also that Wallace will become the Flash in 5G, we'll see
nice cover, shame that wallace west doesn't have its own costume.
Fuck all of this, where’s Max?
I agree. Speed force worked when it was more spiritual and metaphysics than something that is linked to a singular person. It being nirvana for speedsters was a neat concept that unfortunately became twisted to nothing more than a common power source
> Muh Wally thread again.
Look, i love Wally too, but this is bullshit. Williamson's run on the Flash is ok, nothing too great, but has his moments.
You wanna talk about shiting on the Flash? Then make it a Heroes in Crisis thread.

1950s
That wasn’t the thread at all
1960s
1950 with gary frank,1980,1990,2010 are the best ones.
2000s by Jim Lee is the worst one.
Jeez. His art really has gotten worse over the years, hasn't it? Sad to see the guy that basically taught me how to draw become such a lazy artist
I hate how generic a lot of these look. How are they celebrations of a decade if there is barely anything tying them to that specific decade?
40s and 50s are exceptions, because those both make sense
What are you talking about? The only reference to Wally in the op was about Flash Foward
That’s not a cover, that’s a piece of interior art for #750
If it was about the Flash name Avery would be on the page instead of Wallace
>they all say to jump straight to #62
Boo
Cute. I really wish Johns’ second run didn’t get cut short. People have said he planned to bring Don and Dawn back. Barry deserves to be happy with a family too, dammit!
It probably has to do with him being allot more busy these days so he doesn't have enough time to put allot of care into his art.
That would have been wonderful, I really hope Geoff gets to write Flash again at some point
I do too, but I doubt it.
Yeah, Johns seems to be kinda done with comics. I can maybe see him doing something with the Rogues, but his Flash days are over
I'll still defend Williamson's run. It's solid comics.
Hopefully we'll get Wally back soon.
I'm still super butthurt Wally got shafted on the Flash 750 covers
I've only been lightly browsing issues at store. Are Linda and the kids full on back, or is there some fake out bullshit going on here?
I really hope he comes back once he has an editorial team not hellbent in fucking with his runs halfway through.
Seems they’re full on back.
I mean he’s still doing Shazam! So he’s not completely out
I haven’t really caught up post Flash War, but overall I think he has some good ideas and had really good set ups that got fucked over by editorial... Mainly Wally being the Flash of Keystone and Bart coming back and looking for Wally and Max
I made a whole writeup about how the two worst bits of Williamson’s run probably aren’t actually his fault. Pic related.
Yes, if you back Jesse you can bring back Johnny and if you bring back Johnny Quick you can bring back the All-Star Squadron.
Most of the Flash's run since new52 has seemed like it's ideas get put on hold or are just filler while waiting for the crossovers and Justice League events. One of the things that made Wally's run so good was there was less of that in general.
Well there was that one Snickers ad comic that came out during Rebirth, where she was featured prominently
>Snickers ad comic
Oh my god, poor girl
I don’t disagree, but he absolutely could have executed the forced on ideas better. Still, I don’t blame him for not putting in that much effort
I'm gonna level with you user, Messner-Loebs run ain't bad at all and some parts are actually kino.
I mean for an advertisement it was pretty decent and it was nice to see Jessie take the spotlight
>be arguably the most important female speedster
>get new costume after Flash Rebirth
>dad is killed off forever, but whatever, at least you have a new costume
>only get a few really small cameos
>get silently written out with Flashpoint
>Wally eventually returns
>Bart returns
>Jay is about to return for real
>what do you get?
>a Snickers ad
>a fucking Snickers ad
Being Jesse is suffering
He definitely could have done it better. I’m just saying, I don’t think he wanted to even do it. Editorial asked him to add forces to accompany the Still Force, and what kind of writer would he be if he references something like that and never pursued it?
Williamson is going to be the longest modern Flash writer and he hasn't done a single good story
Interesting bit from a recent interview with Johns and Kolins
syfy.com
>Captain Cold isn't your run of the mill villain in that he's got a strict code. What do you like about writing him?
>Johns: I just love that he's a grounded, blue-collar guy. He's not out to rule the world or slaughter people for fun, he's really living hand to mouth and he's got feelings and relationships with family and Keystone City. There's not a lot of ego there, he's got confidence in him but he's not trying to get his name on the front page of a newspaper. He's just a compelling character because his feet are so on the ground.
>Working on the character, people thought he was a second rate Mr. Freeze. But one of Scott and my favorite issues, if not the favorite, was The Flash #182, which was the first of our Rogues spotlights. It's the story of Captain Cold and all he wanted to do was get revenge on the man that killed his sister. It was a really great story to work on. I'd love a Captain Cold monthly book. I think Scott and I could do that book forever. It would be a character-driven book. To me, he's a character in the same vein as a lot of other anti-heroes. He's this kind of cool, methodical and moral character. He's got rules too. With the Rogues, there are "Don't Kill Cops," "Don't Kill Superheroes," there's too much heat for that, "Don't Kill Unless You Have To," "No Drugs." He's got this moral code he adheres to and even in our short story that's coming through.
Johns and Kolins would both be up for a Cold ongoing. DC is probably afraid it wouldn't sell well though, because this definitely has potential
Running Scared is arguably a good story, maybe the best Barry story there is
>No Drugs
lol
A Rogues book in the same vein as Superior Foes would be an amazing book
Especially if it was by Johns
Avery is cute
Godspeed is trash
Guy is trying to start shit.
If we ever get a Rogues book, I hope it's with the pre-Flashpoint crew though. Or at the very least Mardon with his old characterization and Evan instead of Sam.
She really is a fun character
Was Jesse at least with the returned JSA in Doomsday Clock?
Anyway this can be pretended to be canon? I want Jesse back so much.
The kids are back and with Linda, who has memories back. But wally got promoted to taking over for one of Metron's avatars so he's not allowed to be with them.
I just want say that both John Wesley Shipp (aside from Mark Hamill) is one of the best actors of the Franchise
I preordered this cover
Just Wanted to say that John Wesley Shipp is one of the Best more prolific Actors of the Franchise (aside from Mark Hamill)
>Was Jesse at least with the returned JSA in Doomsday Clock?
I think, but it was as Liberty Belle so it’s either Jessie or her mother
It's unclear, although I'm leaning towards no. Liberty Belle was with the JSA and Jesse has taken over that mantle in the past. But I assume that if Jesse were to return, she'd just come back as Jesse Quick
I really want Max back
I mean it looked like Johns JSA, so I could easily see it being Jesse
I’ve heard Williamson wanted to use him for the New Forces arc but got cockblocked.
So do I. I finished reading the entire Impulse series last week and that shit was so much fun. Getting rid of Max at the end was one of the worst creative moves ever, especially since they never did anything with the Rival taking over his body
Jay Garrick will never be relevant again. Maybe in that hypothetical JSA comic that's been in the works for 5 years.
Joshua Williamson is has been broken since Flash War. I read an interview where he says Wally was going to take over. He explains how Barry was Johns' flash and why Johns brought him back. Wally is his flash and plans to bring him back. If you read flash war you can see it being set up. then HEROES IN CRISIS happened. Didio fucked his comic. months of plot outline fucked. if you read Flash around the time HiC was out the plots were very weak. Then he's told he needs to support the JL bullshit Snyder is doing with these other mysteries forces. Ultimately none of it mattered. Year One sounds like it was another assignment rather than something born of passion. Williamson has checked out from seriously writing The Flash since he got fucked over with the Wally thing. Now they're making Wally important with the chair thing. if i were him I'd be fucking pissed.
Does anyone else fucking hate the random yellow lines and lightning bullshit they fill the need to fill Flash's costume with these days? I really miss the solid red broken up by just a little yellow here and there.
I fucking hate how artists always feel the need to show redheads with red costumes where the shades of red are just off a little bit. They do this shit with Wally and with Jean Grey all the time. If you're gonna have a ginger in red, cover that shit up.
FPBP
So if the Flash family makes a comeback, now that continuity is getting fixed
It'll consist of
>Jay
>Max Mercury
>Barry
>Wally
>Don/Dawn
>Jai/Iris
>Bart
>XS
>Johnny Quick (Good)
Unless he's still dead?
>Jesse Quick
Who was shown to be Liberty Belle again in Doomsday Clock, so maybe not?
>Wallace
>Avery
That's a lot of fucking speedsters
Well for one thing Jai is no longer a speedster since Flash Rebirth where Irey took the power
>Jay
Will probably be mostly retired and be in the JSA book to train younger heroes
>Max
Hopefully will be Bart's guardian again. They can be contained in some bumfuck nowhere town
>Barry
Central City's Flash
>Wally
Keystone's Flash
>Don/Dawn
They will probably stay in the future
>Jai/Iris
Only Iris is still a speedster I think. She will probably join Wally every once in a while and maybe be on Teen Titans
>Bart
See Max. Will also stay on Young Justice, so as long as Bendis keeps them away from Prime Earth, it should all be good
>XS
Will stay in the future
>Johnny Quick
Might just retire again, like Pre-Flashpoint
>Jesse Quick
No idea what they will do with her
>Wallace
I guess Barry will keep mentoring him
>Avery
Will stay in China
If Johnny will be alive, it's only three more than Pre-Flashpoint and only Barry, Wally, Bart, Wallace and Avery will be actively superhero'ing. It should be fine, they will probably all stay in their own cities and only crossover every few arcs. Writers will just have to find excuses like "Jay is busy with the JSA, he can't help against the Rogues for now", but that already happens with people like Superman around
Wally also tried to go back into the Speedforce to get his kids out and Barry tried like hell to stop him.
Wasn't Jay powered up by Mercury's favor?
>When will Jay mattee again?
Probably after 5G Generation 1 but WW 750 had a JSA tease so maybe we'll get a decemt amount of story tomorrow
Just read #750. It's not bad. They did focus on this as a jumping on point, unlike Wonder Woman #750. About a third of the first story is a recap of what's happened, I haven't been reading the title and didn't feel lost about anything. Beast story was either the Johns one about Captain Cold or the Wolfman one with Mirror Master. About half of the Flash Forward story is a recap of Wally's status quo, with the rest setting up an apparent combining of the Pre and Post-Flashpoint timelines.
Do you mean the Earth 2 incarnation?
Because OG Jay has a fairly similar origin to Barry in that he was a scientist working on Hard Water there was an accident and he gained Speed Powers due to that
Whats the Jay story about? Is he back in the modern day et?
Yeah, the only Jay stories I've ever read were the New 52 Earth 2 comics. I thought that was his actual origin though, it complimented the whole magic vs tech thing the Green Lanterns had between generations.
Where the fuck is the TalkBack thread
No Flash today, because Murican politics
Well user you are in Luck cause I was just about to storytime the first Flash Comic
It's him fighting the Thinker in 1940. Another piece of the 5G timeline, with him mentioning Wonder Woman getting involved in Europe.
Wally West is pointless.
Impulse is a better sidekick. Barry is better Flash
Was it ever confirmed that the future of them being evil was just Thawne fucking with Barry?
Sad x_x
Why thank you
As someone whom's read an early copy this weekend, their Cold story in #750 is a riot. I dug all the stories, and that's including the FF epilogue.
There's a RF easter egg in that he taunts Jay that he's ultimately going to be forgotten due to Flashpoint, and a hook that Jay will be returning in the main book this year.
Well you see, tobacco and booze are legal so they're not drugs according to the average person, let alone to Mr. Trailer Trash.
>Joan's a scientist too
Huh, didn't know that.
Thanks for storytiming, user! Those are some impressively clean scans too, GA stuff often looks like garbage.
I like the whole panel explaining the "science" behind the feat. Reminds me of Otokojuku and their ancient chinese martial arts.
About the spoiler: does that mean Williamson will stay on for longer than 100 issues? Because we have Flash Age first and after that a weird team-up of RF, Trickster, the Snarts and Grodd. Don't think spoiler would fit in here, so it would have to be afterwards.
I mean if Editorial stays in their fucking lane and let’s Williamson actually write a story he wants to tell I’m all for him staying on
>Thanks for storytiming, user! Those are some impressively clean scans too, GA stuff often looks like garbage
I pulled it off of ReadComicsOnline, I was planning to do Johnny Quick and Max Mercury/Quicksilver as well but the scans for their First Appearance are more or less unreadable.
I really hope after DC is done collecting The Silver Age Flash they start working on a Golden Age collection
Porter said in an interview last week that he was working on drawing RF for his next arc Probably Reverse Flash War after this arc and that he's excited to see Williamson's run get to a 100 issue run. Whether that means that he's ending at 100 or that he's going past remains to be seen.
Bait not taken
Jay really is best boy
a cute
It's bizarre that of all the justice league china characters Avery is the one consistently around. That group needs to return
Green Snake did appear in Wonder Woman not to long ago, maybe Orlando will make her a recurring Character
Add Flash Forward to this. Its been a fun read
Well its not like Donna or Artemis appear in Diana's book these days
Donna is actually showing up in a few months.
Kind of divided on Artemis. On one hand I want her back in Diana's book in a regular presence, but she and Jason have good chemistry. It's kind of hard to have her running with Jason and Biz and also have her hanging with Diana at the same time. If they had just sent her over to Diana's book last time they tried to write her out of outlaws instead of another dimension I probably wouldn't have minded. If they end up ending RH at #50 as the rumors go I hope she just gets moved back over to Wonder Woman.
