This is finally coming tomorrow. Tom King says he's going to deconstruct Adam Strange similar to Watchmen or TDKR.
Is this going to be Watchmen for the 21st century?
My hype levels are through the roof right now.

What the fuck is there to deconstruct?
I bet he's just trying to play down the fact they won't give him any of the big toys now.
Nah it's Tom King, so it will be Bendis style tripe like always
Outdated macho sci fi tropes.
I look forward to this. If his dialogue is reeled in, it could be great. I'm excited for his take on Adam Strange with the happy Shaner pages.
20 issues about his secret depression or some shit.
My xerfriend's bull and I couldn't agree more!
>MCUcks already butthurt
Another reason to follow this book.
Whatever happened to the follow-up to 'Mister Miracle'?
>deconstructing superheroes
Fuck you Tom King, why can’t you write something positive and optimistic once in a while? Adam strange goes on weird sci fi adventures and fully embraces his golden and silver age heritage is better than
>I’m sad because no wife :(
>mister miracle
So sad I have depression
>Batman
So sad I cut my self and can’t get a gf
>sheriff of Babylon
Wah war sucks
>heroes in crisis
Fucking Superman and Batman are crying and Wally west kills a bunch of people by accident because all the superheroes are depressed and have to go to the sanctuary
It’s fine to write about depression and mental illness and all that, but leave superheroes out of that.
Riddle me this, riddle me that: how many people will pretend to be angry long-time fans of this forgotten character once the first issue comes out?
I look forward to the other Adam Strange stories that King-hating anons will storytime in protest.
Not trying to throw shade on you guys, the more comics that get posted on this board the better.
You forgot Omega Men which was also nihilistic crap.
The entirety of Yea Forums will be up in arms
Everyone who read '52', probably.
Millions of people then?
He doesn’t deconstruct, all King does is get characters completely wrong to fit a story he barely knows how to write
People on Yea Forums will say it’s awful, but people in irl will like it. It’s gonna win a bunch of eisners. Make my words.
it’ll prove how contrarian this webzone is
He fits the characters to the story and not the story to the character
When the fuck is reconstruction gonna be the fad? Imagine an Adam Strange miniseries made by someone who actually wants to entertain readers with thrilling space adventures and dynamic heroism.
I wonder if the same was done after they reprinted Twilight?
I mean I’m already a fan of Strange, actually the Julie Schwartz remberance Comic is what got me back into comics
52 is causal trash and I don’t know why this place praises it
He's a faggot and simply took another upbeat character to destroy.
Kill yourself. Unironically demanding it. Stream it.
Riddle me this, how many shills and newfags will act like normies not knowing a character means they can't be beloved?
We already had those in the past, but who bought them?
Nice try, Didio.
I don't see how this is a good thing. He's using pre-existing properties.
And there they go. Looking forward to the story times, Real Fans?
I mean you can say I’m an Autist, but King literally said that was his writing style after the fallout of HiC
No, we didn't. Strange hasn't had a proper comic since the kuberts destroyed him nearly 30 years ago.
>real fans waste hours of their day in a single thread posting a comic for free
Blow your brains out. Stream it.
Because, you know, guerrilla freedom fighting is well known for being all smiles.
>but who bought them?
More people than who are gonna buy this crap.
Telos is the best character ever created
>what is Planet Heist?
A book that casuals like you haven't read.
Planet Heist? Get the fuck out of here you fake fan.
>in irl
>It’s gonna win a bunch of eisners
>it’ll prove how contrarian this webzone is
You tried.
What are you talking about? I was just posting the cover because explaining the comic fully sounded weird
Yea because that's what the Omega Men were always about: grim, dreary "guerrilla freedom fight" where everyone's depressed.
Well, yes. Real Fans love to share their profound insights with the chan plebe.
What's the last thing you storytimed user? Link the threads. Plural.
It was a boring book though. I liked Atari Force better.
>tom king
>that cover
So glad that he's making Adam Strange a murderer now! Just like Wally and the Runaway robot kid!
SO FRESH AND ORIGINAL!!!!
Yeah. It’s just embarrassing. He was given full control over new gods basically and wanted to make Mister Miracle be all depressed. If he wanted to make a more realistic or grounded book about new gods he could have done something about how happily married big barda and Scott free are. I’d read the shit out of a book about how they raised a kid on new genesis or whatever and how they struggle to raise a kid.
I don’t know, there’s more to making a realistic take on a character than making them sad and depressed.
Good argument faggot. Didio is a dumbass, but he was right with 52 feeling like a mess. Countdown is still worse
>I only talk to Real Channers
Aw, pity is me.
Oh, you're a MM fan too? Coincidences galore here, folks.
Yikes. Read some green lantern from before the 90s. It used to be much more colorful and upbeat. The omega men had some infighting they were hardly dreary little fucks.
>sixteen year old eight issue mini they never followed up on
It's a shame we didn't get more but it hardly proves me wrong unless you're a raging "gotcha" autist.
You literally just said people couldn't be fans of a character unless they storytime them. Why are shills such faggots?
What are you even trying to prove?
Oh you think nobody liked comics before Tom King wrote them? Coincidence.
Kill yourself newfag.
I like the new gods, but my first exposure to MM was with Tom King.
I’ve read stuff involving new gods from the jack Kirby series to the grant Morrison and mark Waid JLA when Orion and big barda and MM were supporting characters.
What I said was in that post, is you could have a better serious take on the character if you actually made it happy and not depressing and dour.
>deconstruct Adam Strange
He should probably be constructed into something first.
Why are King fans like this? It's arguably what hurt his sales and reputation the most. It's incredibly off putting when some casual acts like this.
user Planet Heist was followed up on with Rann-Thanagar War and Infinite Crisis
Are you being sarcastic here?
They know he ruins every character he gets his hands on so they have to dismiss legit criticism any way they can, including going with
>N-no one liked them anyways!!!
Right I would love to see that after Dematteis who did the Home Life vs Superheroics so perfectly it would have been nice to see them use that as the starting point
Where does King get all these fresh and original ideas?
We already had a 21st-Century Watchmen.
It was called Transformers vs G.I. Joe
King gives all of his characters the same arc because he's obsessed with his own personal trauma and can't stop projecting it all over the place
I thought the whole things was gonna be alternating issues from the war hero perspective and the war crime perspective
Jesus Christ dude, it's embarrassing how much of a casual you are. GTFO.
I think Adam is neat, but I haven't read all the good stuff.
I thought you were gonna say the new frontier
>that spoiler
Wasn’t that done by Tom Scioli
>confirmation bias Shills post a casual falseflag to reply to confirm their bias
I'm so sick of this shit.
This. I'm so fucking sick of it.
Yeah that shit was insane, scioli has a fun way of writing in that it’s just like a kid playing with action figures
Scioli is a faggot and should kill himself on a keyfabe live stream.
You sound like you're just sick, period. Maybe get that spoon out of your ass.
A bad comic is a bad comic. You retarded capeshitters have ruined this board.
>We already had a 21st-Century Watchmen
Yes, The Vision. It's too bad Tom King took the mark contract and is shitting it up at DC now.
The duality of man. However I agree with . His art just looks childish.
Most people here haven't even read the Kubert mini but will most likely start claiming it's better than King's mini and a classic despite basically ruining the character for years until Waid retconned most of it in a random JLA filler arc.
Vision wasn't good though. Nobody ever explains why it was.
Probably less than the amount of shills that'll act like it's a revelation in western writing when it's just King crying about killing kids via computer screen (or rather being there to sharpen pencils in the background while the higher ups killed kids via drones on computer screens.
That filler arc was awful.
It was good because it was a fresh take on the character and interesting. The issue is that it looks worse when you look back on it because it was one of King's first real BIG comics and people hadn't realized yet that he only ever told one story over and over.
>Vision wasn't good though
Ah, classic Yea Forumsntrarianism at it's finest.
>it was a fresh take on the character
No it fucking wasn't.
>HOW DARE YOU NOT LIKE SOMETHING I LIKE!
>fresh take
Writing them completely different than they had been isn't fresh it's lazy. There's also the fact that it just really wasn't good otherwise knowing his schtick wouldn't cheapen the first time you'd seen it in retrospect.
>doesn't explain why it's good.
A classic kingfagism
>Adam Strange
Literally who?
>look him up
The Burroughs estate should have sued the shit out of DC.
Doesn't bother me.
I read MiS issues when they were hot off the newsstand and enjoyed Adam's adventures.
When I heard the Kubert's brought him back, I was overjoyed. When I learned Rann had been turned into a dystopian shithole I simply ignored the whole thing. If you don't read it, it doesn't matter.
Hoping for better this time. At least the "doc" Shaner parts.
P.S. First time in my life I subscribed to a comic. They arrived folded and creased and two issues later, a shakeup at DC sent Juie Schwartz and Infantino to Batman. Jack Schiff was the new editor. He dropped Adam and went with stand-alone "monster of the week" crap. I don't think I ever got my 12 issues but I really didn't care by that point.
Funny then that the one user who mentioned it literally noted it changed the character irreparably.
Holy shit, get off the internet grandpa
>Hoping for better this time
L O L
>If you don't read it, it doesn't matter.
You know damn well that isn't true you just accepted in a time before the internet that you had very little power over the situation. This is what creators wish was the norm to this day. However if they want to shill their shit in the same places people go to complain about their shit, there's ALWAYS going to be conflict. The difference between here and other places is there is no blocking or muting so they can't avoid it.
It's funny watching Ya Boi Zach's videos on Mister Miracle with him praising the first issue then by the last issue saying it's pure dog shit.
There's literally no reason to expect it to be better. Kings entire schtick is to undermine upbeat/competent characters. Added to his stated intention to portray Adam as an imperialist just makes this pure and utter bait.
I sincerely lost any and all respect I had for Shaner that he'd allow his art and what it represents to be distorted in such a way.
>Inb4 hey a paychecks a paycheck
And I don't respect that.
I'd like to note, just in case this derails the thread (inb4 there was nothing to derail).
Nobody brought the YouTube faggots up until this faggot:
>You know damn well that isn't true
Except it is
>still hasn't explained why it's good
I'm glad I was able to trigger you by mentioning a jewtuber.
If it were true the kuberts wouldn't have been able to ruin the character lol. The only people who dislike negative reactions are people who's sales depend on fan reaction. It's no longer the days of "if you like it ignore it". I'm forced to see shilling so I will rebutt it.
>Le Jewtube
hang yourself faggot in sick of you "Le gators" people. Those faggots are just as bad and the wokefags they bitch about but not nearly as bad as shills.
They didn't ruin shit, it was a mini that didn't sell well and wasn't critically acclaimed. They ended up retconing it anyway.
Calm down, user. Breathe. You need to work on seething less and coping more.
So is there any legitimate reason it needs to be seen as good? If one is a contrarian to think it's bad that means it is objectively good. So what is objectively good about it?
>I want an Adam Strange book with art by Doc Shaner
Can't even lie I legitimately see the guy as a turncoat of sorts for taking this gig. They're using him and his aesthetic to shit on everything his aesthetic delineates from.
I'm glad he's getting work and becoming more of a name enough to get more "prestigious" books but having to share a marquee with King and fucking Gerads is just shameful.
I'm also fully ready for certain "people" to prefer Gerads' art over Shaner's
>I like the new gods, but my first exposure to MM was with Tom King.
>I’ve read stuff involving new gods from the jack Kirby series to the grant Morrison and mark Waid JLA when Orion and big barda and MM were supporting characters.
Proof or poof.
>Hoping for better this time.
You should know better than that.
>At least the "doc" Shaner parts.
It won't matter if the Shaner parts are good. The meat and potatoes of the book is Tom King's swollen ego.
you realize that's a bad thing, right? Especially with pre-existing characters?
>I'm also fully ready for certain "people" to prefer Gerads' art over Shaner's
Oh dude it'll disgust me too. Kings casual ass fans love his tracer artists like janin and gerads.
Worse will be the people who see no difference and constantly conflate them lol.
Oh boy, more PTSD
>My hype levels are through the roof right now.
How low is your roof? You must live in a dog cage.
It's not like it's impossible to write a book about them having some sort of relationship crisis without turning both into depressed wrecks. Just write a book basically about Jack & Roz Kirby, except is Miracle and Barda, and in this particular story, Barda is concerned about Scott's well being and personal life while he just keeps on doing crazy stunts because that's what he knows how to do, even though they're not particularly effective for his career OR his superheroics
Sounds boring.

wow i can't wait for him to be secretly depressed, gotta love one trick pony King.
end of preview
>an epic tale in the tradition of Watchmen, The Dark Knight Returns, and DC: The New Frontier
Are you shitting me?
Can’t blame the filler arc for being awful when it mentions the dogshit that was the Kubert stuff in an attempt to fix it. I can still feel the increasingly bad taste in my mouth the moment I finished it and all my hopes that there would be a grand twist at the end because SURELY it can’t be that bad ruined
There's ALWAYS been feedback. Maybe not internet comments, but books live and die by sales figures.
There are exceptions, but anything people aren't buying is doomed.
DC once had a book, a 12-issue mini-series, wherein Rock & Roll was deemed subversive and the government tried to suppress it.
It just ended after 4 or 5 issues. No wrap-up, no conclusion,no explanation from the publisher, just no more issues.
Get ready for Mr. Miracle 2.
This hotdogging jackass smirk is incredibly out of character for Adam.
Old school white male heroes exploring exotic lands
>you saved something
This fucking hack always does this. He genuinely thinks he's being cryptic and vague and deep. Fucking retard.
It doesn't mention shit. It's shit because it stupid and treats the reader like a moron "OMG MARTIAN MANHUNTER IS TOTALLY EVIL U GUISE"
>wow, what a coincidence, you like silver age scifi comics AND Jack Kirby!? What a madman!
neck yourself faggot
This is weird in most comics on Earth Strange is treated as a literal nobody, that’s why he constantly goes back to Rann is to be a hero
He killed Strange’s Daughter!!! what the fuck is wrong with king?
This is some of the most obviously traced shit in the world.
No one cares enough about Adam Strange to be interested in a Watchmen style deconstruction. Even if they were King isn't good enough to do it. At this point he has clearly demonstrated that he is one trick pony without much to say. He's a shallow wannabe Alan Moore. You'd think being a CIA war criminal would give you more material to draw from for writing but apparently not.
You seem to have not read the post you replied to.
Do you think King has ever read anything about Adam Strange before writing this? Or during or after writing it for that matter?
Light source is hitting the same side of Adam and everyone else. Yet he's facing them. This is what happens when you trace.
Here's how this book is going to be:
>you'll have the mundane married shit on Earth mixed with the wacky sci-fi shit from Rann
>Adam will be feeling depressed and guilty over his past actions while his wife tries to cheer him up
>there will be issues upon issues of nothing but other characters either shitting on Adam or telling him what he should do
>Adam and these characters will also quote a bunch of famous author and cite a bunch of famous philosophies to give the whole plot a more artsy air
>after all these fillers issues the book will end with nothing being resolved>
>Adam will probably gain a new kid but will keep feeling guilty and depressed
There you go. King's MMO is to fill the book with filler issues where a bunch of characters do nothing but talk and talk until he wraps up everything without giving any real conclusion other than the typical "Welp, that's life!". I actually envy the man's ability to game the system with minimal effort.
Oh, forgot that he will put some fighting sequences that does nothing to advance the plot and is made off of nothing but characters fighting hundreds of nameless gooks in plash pages while they continue to nonchalantly talk about shit that has nothing to do with what they're doing.
Pretty spot on. He took the "cap and black widow push a guy off a roof while chatting about dating" scene in TWS and made a career off of adding his psychiatrist's notes to the script with some quotes from works he never read.
Yes. I think he just doesn't care about the character, nor has the skill to change voices when he writes, nor the desire to move out of his sad limited box
What i find interesting is his thing of filling the issues with characters screaming at the protagonists face what the protagonist should do with their life or shitting on the protagonist for not living life properly. That must be some coping mechanism to with the pressure in his own life. Specially relating with father figures. Vision, Omega Men, Mister Miracle, Batman. They all have it.
I agree with all that but I don't think King has ever read a comic in his life.
Remember during the beginning of his Batman run that some dude tried to find out if King had lied about serving and stealing valor, and King got so fucking butthurt about this dude that he made his wife create a Twitter account to personally tell the dude who she suffered having her husband deploy to dangerous countries with pictures of him holding up weapons and shit?
That mess was hilarious,
>fighting sequences that does nothing to advance the plot
How is that any different from most action scenes?
My dad’s a huge Adam Strange fan.
I have no intention of telling him this series even exists.
He named a character after a particular person who's opinions he disliked. Maybe one day he'll tell that story publicly.
He's a scumbag.
Well this board pretended to be Superman fans after man of murder happened so take a wild guess
Because people like you (and King) who think "kicking and punching don't solve problems" shouldn't be reading capeshit. There's no reason to waste multiple pages on a static mostly ironic "fight" rather than just not including one at all.
King hates cape comics and intentionally mocks them. Which would be fine if he wasn't a worse writer than almost anyone else and actually wrote good Alt-cape stories.
The "lolololll look we're punching the villains now" is cute for exactly one page before it's auto-fellatio
>b-nobody likes Superman
Hang yourself
>m-man of murder lol
MoS and BvS was kino. King could never deconstruct heroes that effectively.
It doesn't surprise me that a faggot ass shill wouldn't understand how one can love trunks wearing Superman and still appreciate what Zack Snyder did while not understanding why kings wink to the camera self-loathing is hated.
It's exactly why you faggots have ruined the top two capes in the last decade.
user just becuase you dont have a horse in the race doesnt mean you cant comment on it being rigged
These fuckers do love that word deconstruction, but basically they just do misery porn. Bet he doesn't even know who Derrida is
Look at this shit
Ok so King wants to deconstruct this character........Someone red pill me on who Adam Strange is, his personality, and the life he lived in the old comics so I know what King plans to deconstruct?
that seems intentional to show how repetitive/monotonous it is
Shaner drew an Adam Strange/Future Quest crossover
Man of Two Worlds. Hero on Rann. An archaeologist on Earth. He jumps back and forth. Has a wife on Rann. Lots of 50s jetpack Buck Rogers stuff
What was his like personality over the years of different interpretations?
He's a retro style space adventurer. Think John Carter of Mars with a costume like Flash Gordon. This teleporter takes him to the planet Rann.
Gerads swipes and traces why is he employed at all let alone on a black label book?
I know. I own it. two copies in fact. I don't know how this disputes what I'd said.
The copy pasta shit is okay if an artists does it once or twice a decade. Beat panels are SUPPOSED to be redrawn. Not just clear and obvious copy and pastes.
The posterized pictures of books and markers are hardly even touched. You'd have to be a drop dead retard to think this is acceptable. let alone for a "premium" line of comics.
This, Shaner just seems to want to genuinely draw an Adam Strange book and will do it by any means necessary
He's a classic stalwart man of quiet nobility who loves his wife and wants to help his new home.
So this writing a book and media tour seems incredibly out of character. He knows who he is. Alanna knows who he is. That's enough.
To add, Adam had to use brains over brawn more often than John Carter or most other classic heroes. He's a combination of the John Carter pulp traditions and problem solver hero traditions of later years. Adam is a scientist by trade, and it comes up in his adventures fairly often.
That isn't the point user made. he didn't make a point. he just noted something that had nothing to do with what user said.
>Adam had to use brains over brawn more often than John Carter or most other classic heroes. He's a combination of the John Carter pulp traditions and problem solver hero traditions of later years. Adam is a scientist by trade, and it comes up in his adventures fairly often.
Which makes it all the more stupid for him to be deconstructed as if he's a paragon for masculinity.
>What the fuck is there to deconstruct?
Basically they are going to Hearts of Darkness it. Make it seem like some John Carter of Mars style adventure but really it is colonial white man sticking his head in where it doesn't belong. The aftermath of his adventurism will be death and destruction.
To elaborate on his personality over the years. I'll be frank, it's a bit flat. He's just "a good guy" sort of thing. It's due to the era he's from. There is room to build him up. Some bookish obliviousness to certain things could fit I suppose. He got kind of angry and bitter after Alanna was killed and they inserted some crazy breeding stud bullshit into why he's even on Rann. I'm not sure there were even a dozen appearances during this era, because it was fucking stupid. But that got retconned out and he went back to being a family man.
>So is there any legitimate reason it needs to be seen as good?
What do you even mean? Does ANYTHING need a legitimate reason why people have to think it's good?
He's nothing like john carter. Are he or his editors aware of this? If he wanted to do space imperialism he should have done a book with Dynamite and John Carter.
Oh bUt cOlOnIaLiSm BaD. Yeah, that's what King wants to deconstruct. I hate these hacks. Adam is the only guy from Earth on Rann, and he goes native for love of family. The fuck is colonial about that?
White savior tropes? Which,A, most Rannians are basically white people because lazy pulp sci-fi, and B, the people who complain about those tropes also apply it to any fiction where a white person learns about, and wants to become part of a foreign culture. They're regressive sleazy shits who believe in some wack ass post modern segregation for white people and it's insane they're listened to at all.
Burroughs' estate would never let him do it
Lad I'm butthurt but because I like adam atrange, yes even that raan thargarian war shite. I just hope he doesnt ruin it.
That said I liked volume 1 of adam strange and that was so-so.
>No one cares enough about Adam Strange to be interested in a Watchmen style deconstruction
I am, even if it is for the butthurt alone.
He's like John Carter in the sense that his origin and base summation of his story, man from Earth beamed to another planet and helps save the world and falls in love and marries the very hot raven haired alien lady, are pretty much the same.
As said, Adam does deviate a lot by using his brains rather than his Superman strength.
>no one liked them anyways
BUT WE DO! WE ALLLLLWAYS DID!
>volume 1 of Adam Strange
You mean the original Mystery in Space stuff?
Not bad for an user who hates the book.
Genuinely asking. How does one tell?
Well, neither has anyone in this board...
Geniuses.
Explain why Tom kings vision is good or fuck off.
He'll be patted on the back and told its exceptional by the same industry. They're all scum.
Not that user but this user literally said it's contrarian to (rightfully) say King's Vision sucked.
If nobody can tell him why it's good I don't see how he can be a contrarian?
I commend them.
I never said it was good though
>not bad
not bad at what? I don't understand.
>Yea Forums doesn't read comics
only shills say this and it's only ever in threads that don't take to their shilling.
I don't think he knows what that is, user.
Stop. You're defending someone being called a contrarian for saying Kings Vision sucks.
If you agree it sucks there's no conversation to be had.
>I don't understand
Of course you don't...
>shills
Pro tip: a shill is someone who pretends to be a fan. I.e. you.
Vol 1 is the 1990 mini-series dumbasses. Nice try tho.
>Oh bUt cOlOnIaLiSm BaD
I don’t fucking trust a white guy from America WHO WAS IN THE FUCKING CIA to address colonialism with any sort of depth. It’ll likely be him going “INTENTION GOOD, EXECUTION BAD, BOTH SIDES” like with omega men and the war on terror
It was called Heroes In Crisis
>shills hate on Tom King comics in Tom King threads
Lol. Nice obfuscation but your CIA playbook is out of date by a decade.
>the anal devastation in every Tom King thread
It's almost as if there were real comics fans in this place and everything.
Oh yeah, the book that killed AS forever. Bad people, the Kuberts.
Nah their father was a good guy. The kids are shit though.
>I don’t fucking trust a white guy from America WHO WAS IN THE FUCKING CIA
Oh, so you're one of those.
I'm glad Adam Strange is a character I don't give a single shit about so I can just enjoy King butchering him with his PTSD-ridden, bendis-speaking, nine-panel grid-over-using, suicidal, father-hating writing with some great Shaner art sprinkled and not get buttmad angry.
never trust anything saying it's going to be the x of current time period. it's a massive red flag of derivative ideas and ego.
If you think Tom fucking King is equipped with the skills to tackle colonialism well I can’t convince you otherwise
No, user. All of them are bad. Bad. Forever.
Same here. It's great when you like comics but don't make them the center of your life.
That's cool. As long as you don't fault fans for being buttmad about it and shit up threads laughing about that rather than shitting on king for being garbage which you clearly accept.
>the skills to tackle colonialism
So, do you have them? I mean, as a fan you're much more intelligent and talented than any creator, right?
>t. displaced Nicaraguan immigrant
But user, I want to fault fans for being buttmad about it and shit up threads laughing about that. Where would be the fun in this board otherwise?
>comics aren't the center of my life
you say on Yea Forums at 4:30 EST. Kill yourself.
>Brian Scalbrine was a terrible NBA pro
>C-CAN YOU PLAY AT AN NBA LEVEL
pathetic
No. Which is why I’m not writing a book about the topic framed by a fucking superhero. It’ll just be a clusterfuck of misery porn and apologia, mark my words
Yes, so if you're a true liberal you must love me.
This is the cancer killing the board. People used to understand only autistically obsessed people posted on fucking mongolian basketweaving forums. I don't know why people celebrate being normies.
>"I'm too much if a normalfag to know who this chatacter is, so he has no fans!"
Unironically kill yourself.
“Deconstructing” sword and planet heroes is turbo easy. Especially for onions-laced manbabies who’ve never even fucked a real woman much less dreamed of seizing one through conquest. Wiki says he’s got a wife and three kids. I’d bet two of them aren’t his and the one that is wishes they weren’t. His wife would cream her jeans and suck your dick if you punched him where his hairline should be. Deconstruct that you preening sodomites.
This is exactly, 100% the very same relation Barda and Scott had in Mister Miracle where she looks more her manager than her wife.
>I’m not writing a book about the topic framed by a fucking superhero
I look forward to your threads in why Tom King is the most dangerous man alive.
>NBA
What is that?
>So, do you have them?
Here's the yes you were looking for. Care to reply without kicking the can down the road? That person you're replying to has a multimillion year book contract. Assuming they don't just proves you're here to project useless on to the others you reply to. Stop assuming and discuss. Why do you think King has the skills to do this?
>autistically obsessed = good
>not autistically obsessed = bad
What can I say, user?
>“Deconstructing” sword and planet heroes is turbo easy. Especially for onions-laced manbabies who’ve never even fucked a real woman much less dreamed of seizing one through conquest. Wiki says he’s got a wife and three kids. I’d bet two of them aren’t his and the one that is wishes they weren’t. His wife would cream her jeans and suck your dick if you punched him where his hairline should be. Deconstruct that you preening sodomites.
Epic win, user.
>Here's the yes you were looking for
Another happy coincidence! When are you publishing the book?
No one is dumb enough to link the papers with their name on it to this place
>being a normie good
>being a fanatic bad
If you aren't obsessed with comics anc cartoons and you aren't here to shill then you're here to shitpost. You're no better than /pol/fags.
Good action scenes serve a purpose and have a point.
Imagine thinking you aren't absolutely retarded if you need someone to "/s" in order to glean the sarcasm dripping from their post.
Let's make this easier, retard:
>Why do you think King has the skills to do this?
>inb4 fighting to solve the problem is hardly a point
you don't seem to understand the type of insipid fuck you're speaking to. they think tom's fight scenes are good specifically because they think fight scenes are dumb. Yet they TOTALLY love capeshit.
>being a fanatic bad
Yes, user. You see, fans are always angry and never happy. Just take a look at this thread.
OK, but I think you're too much of an intellectual to read capes, user.
Thag sums up most of Tom King's writing career and his writing style. Wannabe Alan Moore with depression.
Why are you here? You've dodged the shill question and have contempt for fans so why are you here?
user, capeshit can be something else than videogame tier action scenes. I'm sure of that.
And yet you, who aren't a fan, are in a thread about a thing you aren't a fan of getting this assblasted. it's an odd flex.
>Tom King
The fact I keep going anything he has done outside of Vision and kite meme tells me this will a waste time
Well the guy has to get his wife-dependence and depression from somewhere right? I assume he already got King PTSD and depression from his "Strange Adventures".
>Why are you here?
Good question, user, but maybe we should ask Yea Forums or other boards that deal with existential matters?
It really can't and doesn't need to be. Tom King could write most of his stories without shitting on capeshit.
>It really can't
So capeshit is bad. Then who cares if King writes it or not?
I do. You clearly don't. I don't understand why this website has devolved into shills telling us to stop reading comics because they just want to shill.
I'm so goddamn sick of it. I hope Tom King gets hit by a fucking bus. He's an insufferable faggot.
>Action movies need to be dramas
Nah. Capecomics are action comics. Action solves the problems in action comics.
So you want King to write bad capes?
I just fucking realized he's a John Carter rip off.
No I want to watch you commit suicide.
I mean he really isn't tho
The core concept (earthman randomly transported to planet and must survive) is but yeah I guess he goes in a different direction with the sci fi aesthetic
I talked with Shaner at C2E2, the poor guy was born in the wrong century, he really just wants to do silver age Superman stories.
>suicide
I think I know why you read King.
Stop getting mad.
I don't know what you mean by that but good action scenes are key in a good action comic. That stuff isn't debatable.
>That stuff isn't debatable.
And yet many masterworks say otherwise.
>something else
No at that point they'd be something else. Capeshit means action. The only reason the out romance and shit into capeshit was the CCA
>many
Name more than 10.
>Masterwork
this is the problem. King isn't a master.
also this: name more than 10
>Capeshit means action
Weird, I see people complaining about event books despite having action.
Ha! I'm too much of a normie for that, remember?
You won't name them though.
LOLLL literally refuses to.
So is this you admitting you can't name ten?
Why did you make this claim then?
Pathetic
Hey, if you can pretend to be a fan of obscure capes so can I.
OK, there are no masterworks of capes. You're right, I concede it.
>It’s fine to write about depression and mental illness and all that
I have both. I don't go to stories about men in tights to hear about it again. Tom can resolve his personal problems on his own time or optionally kill himself, I'm good either way. Respect the genre and the needs of the readers or stop writing for that genre.
>this forgotten character
I don't much care for tourists
You can leave the way you slithered in
>I have both
It shows :D
You can't mock me with the truth
I know, I just laugh at you.
Alan Moore ALREADY did this in Swamp Thing when he revealed that Rann completely disdained Strange and thought of him as a primitive ape-man that was brought to Rann to "inseminate the royal cow" Alana.
I was at the C2E2 Sketch Duel with Shaner and Gerads and the host asked them if this series was an 'extension of what Alan Moore did in Swamp Thing' and Gerads said yes and that King worships that story so make of that what you will!
>Tom can resolve his personal problems on his own time or optionally kill himself,
This. I work 9 and a half hours a day to pay for comics. I have light depression as well. I don't need some regretful spook divesting his woe is me issues. I want capeshit, not tom king dressing his depression support group in cosplay.
Why are you ITT?
OK; here is what we have learned today:
>King haters are mentally ill, literally
>there are no good cape books because they're not 100% action scenes
>many people pretend to be fans just to spite this or that creator
>and of course, that it feels good to be a normie
See you tomorrow?
>Wannabe Alan Moore
Moore has faults but he's structurally one of the better writers this genre's had in the last fifty years and to him everything services story. Yes, he's degraded heroes in his works but it's not a requirement like it is for King. King couldn't write Golden Age straight like Tom Strong if his life depended on it.
Moore wrote for this genre because it was a part of his childhood he wanted to give back to the medium and that's echoed in other writers I respect. I don't sense any personal connection in King's work which I think feeds his indifference to tracking mud wherever he goes.
Guilt isn't a good creative motivator.
Sure but sadly you won't leave the thread.
Just keep it alive while I sleep my 8 hours, OK? Good night!
>this is the type of user who hates when people call others trannies and faggots
Unbelievable. Kill yourself.
And this is when you reply again.
God holy fuck that's just not a good thing in any conceivable way.
Did Shaner look like a broken man when that was said?
>King haters are mentally ill, literally
Lifelong DC fans (not in any company war sense) tend to be really strong continuityfags who don't like seeing a character be reinterpreted for the worse. We are and have always been like this and comic book fandom is in fact a gerontocracy of nerds to whom this is all real. King uses the characters he writes as emotional cum rags, wants praise for repeating the same act every time and contributes no new characters we care about.
Fuck Tom King.
Hope he cries himself to sleep for this.
>Rann completely disdained Strange and thought of him as a primitive ape-man that was brought to Rann to "inseminate the royal cow" Alana
There was an undercurrent of naturalism during the 80s I didn't entirely appreciate even then. Moore and Chaykin both wanted to oxidize the chrome on DC's futurism but I think Moore mellowed on that since whereas Chaykin still paints everything in shades of bile.
It's going to be the same shit he always does. "What if this character had a mental illness?!"
An user was talking about how he wanted a Shaner Adam Strange book and I informed him there was one already out.
Tom Strong was sort of Moore's apology tour for all of that crap.
Maybe King will eventually read an issue or two.
I'm the same user dumbass. That's not what I said at all. I said I see him as a turncoat for allowing king to take his upbeat gold/silver age aesthetic and use it to sell the "not everything that glitters is gold" screed.
Great more PTSD
Tom King shouldn't try to be cute
And Supreme
and Top 10
and Promethea
aaaaand probably other stuff that I'm forgetting
Go watch your lesbian rock cartoon
Are we placing bets about how many times Adam Strange is going to cry about how hard it is to be away from his wife?
So this was his omnious hint he posted? I am underwhelmed!
Wrong, Tom Strong or Americas best comics was a love letter to pulp and these aqnthologies with sci-fi and horror mixted.
>t-spheres
I didn't know Mr terrific was in this.
Isn't he ex-cia? not much of a man baby.
Is this a variant?
Sitting in an office sending emails isn’t any tougher at CIA than it is at AT&T. Tom King is a pussy and his wife is gagging for masculine attention.
Tropes that haven't been particularly relevant in the last thirty years. If you want to deconstruct the modern sci-fi hero, start with Stargate and Avatar.
No spoilers yet?
>Tom King says he's going to deconstruct Adam Strange similar to Watchmen or TDKR.
Oh yay we need more of this shit.
Its a cover for issue 2. I think Gerads is the main cover artist, and Shaner is doing variants, so that makes this the main cover I believe.
I don't care much about Strange but deconstructing C-list and literal who characters and making them sad is a tired Tom King gimmick that people wank a lot and it's what ultimately got him into Batman and we all know how that went.
hes done it once?
Because it looks traced? What a bizarre question to ask. Have you never traced something before? Or seen a picture that you knew was traced? Looks exactly like those pages.
he's literally done it on every single series he's written.
And it's the same relationship Batman and Catwoman had. Tom writes emotionally weak men and YAS KWEEN SLAY female love interests who are better than them. So on top of the godawful deconstructionist bullshit Tom's also a feminist.
well not Batman
He's done there too.
Batman isn't a C-list character, is all
Doesn't matter.
This is the follow-up. It wasn't meant as a sequel, just as another 12-issue book. If I remember correctly, King said it was a follow up to Vision and Mister Miracle. Meaning its just another 12-issue book about depression.
Thematic follow-up.
But on Rannian standards he is a superhuman action hero.
He is now.
it worries me that you think that
It doesn’t matter if it’s relevant, dumbass. Adam Strange still embodies that era to his core, which is why the deconstruction is appropriate.
It's the power of Tom King.
it's be done so many fucking times by better writers that it isn't appropriate anymore. It's just trite.
Not Batman but there's Kite-Man.
So don’t read it.
>more
I wish. Only a tiny pinch of comics hailed as "the next Watchmen" are even half as good.
Don't worry; no one will. It will be hyped up by the shill comic sites because they're easily impressed by crap like this, but readers will tune out in droves after the first few issues.
if I don't read it, how will I criticize it properly?
Just like with Mr. Miracle? Oh wait...
>lol what do you mean Tom King had a long run with Batman that everyone eventually ended up hating?
Do you think good will lasts forever, user?
Not to mention Heroes in Crisis which was even more of a dumpster fire that everyone also hated.
Supreme was an apology for what he did to cape books. There's no other interpretation.
I look forward to the day he gets to write one of Morrison's or Gaiman's characters and within 72 hours he closes his social media accounts
>You'd think being a CIA war criminal would give you more material to draw from for writing
It does but he'd be disappeared for using any of it
Moore and Miller didn't intend for superhero comics to take the turn they did after Watchmen and TDKR dropped. You gotta keep in mind that before Moore became a crusty old communist who hates everyone and everything he genuinely loved superhero comics.
Nah. He really likes Silver Age Superman.
And neither he nor Miller wanted everyone else to copy them. I know this because I read their work in the early 80s.
he probably still does genuinely love superhero comics as a medium, but his embitterment at the industry means he won't write them anymore.
Well anons, was he deconstructed? I'm too lazy to read the thread or reviews.
And he's right not to. Nigger absolutely cannot read a contract to save his life and it fucked him in the ass every single time.
it's not that he didn't read the contract, it's that DC absolutely fucked him on a technicality.
It’s nice to see a member of the DC editorial here to show how little they care about any of their properties outside of Batman
>Mr.
Moore never would have had any claim on the property anyways if his original idea had been allowed to use those Charlton characters so I can't feel too bad for him. But yea DC continuing to jew him out of ownership is still pretty jewy, but funny.
So you haven't read Sheriff of Babylon?
>doing "deconstructions" is 2020
Jesus he's 40 years behind the times
It is very much the old white savior trope where a civilized western white man has to come to a foreign culture and save them because he's so much better than anyone else in there. Come on bro, Adam is just an average archaeologist guy who suddenly becomes a planet's greatest hero and marries the leading scientist's daughter? It couldn't be anymore of a white savior fantasy unless he literally was crowned as king.
Shush, don't legitimize something we're meant to unanimously hate in order to shit on King!
that post is pretty clearly meant to be further condemnation.
The Vision 3: Mister Miracle 2: The Tragedy of Adam Strange - A Heroes In Crisis Tale
Adam Strange is pretty boring. I'd like to see some serious stories with him sometime.
And it was great.
If you pretend Kyle Rayner was someone else, sure.
>Write Gaiman's characters
I'd actually be really interested to see his take on that.
>it's a "Dream cuts his wrists again" issue
his take would just be the original Sandman run, but shorter, worse, and with more consistently bad art
Kyle was in need of a character shake up, and I like what King did with him. All anyone's done with Kyle for years has just been power level wankery. King actually did characterization and development.
Entirely appropriate.
A character suddenly being drastically different with no explanation or arc is not character development.
Well he did mope around a lot over getting dumped, maybe King can actually do something with that.
Uhh, you're just a hater okay?
It was not.
Morpheus would unironically be perfect for King. Daniel too actually going by spurrier
His development is entirely due to the events of that he goes through in Omega Men.
That is an entirely accurate description of my feelings towards King's work, yes.
Yea Forums couldn't stop drooling over Omega Men when it was coming out and was super mad when it looked like it was going to get cut to just six issue.
Good morning! I knew I could trust you. Maybe you're being cured after all?
A on, even I know that there's no DC continuity.
The comic already started with him drastically different and ends with him learning nothing.
If fans did, we wouldn't have to do these ugly things.
The worst of it is that you can't help read his books despite hating them. My condolences, user. That must hurt.
I know. I was meme'd into blind-buying the trade by Yea Forums; having never read King before. Never again.
kek
Tom King is the kinnda guy who took all the wrong lessons from Moore's work.....wait, that's the ENTIRE american comic book industry...
I mean he basically did that but in a more convoluted way
Will King ever return to Sheriff of Babylon? Or is he too much of a hot shit right now for writing anything that isn't capeshit?
What's really sad is King has proven he can write a good comic without turning it into misery porn; just like Moore.
I think it's more that DC doesn't want King to spend time on an OC Black Label book that won't sell as much as DCU stuff.
>he probably still does genuinely love superhero comics as a medium
Top lel. Try saying that to his face.
Yet they dumped SA under Blacked Label...yeah, I know it's about DC Character, but don't tell me fucking Adam Strange has more name recognition among fanboys than King himself these days...
Stop looking with your eyes and look with your heart
>Yet they dumped SA under Blacked Label
Well it is dealing with more mature material and it's a twelve issue prestige mini, it makes sense. Makes it more marketable.
Is it really a technicality when its a standard book deal, Moore knew, and the book actually sold incredibly well? Watchmen didn't just stay in print to hold onto the license, it stayed in print because its one of the best selling graphic novels of all time. DC was more in the wrong for spamming toys, movies, TV shows, and forced sequels as far as I'm concerned. That kind of stuff goes against aspects of the story. Especially toys. The one time Rorschach is undeniably in the right is when he calls Ozymandias a sell out.
Moore probably wouldn't have cared as much I think about the book itself staying in print if DC hadn't hounded him to allow for full franchising year after year. That always seemed like the actual problem to me.
When Watchmen came out, it was basically unprecedented that any comic would be kept nonstop in print for decades. You couldn't imagine such a thing. Most novels don't stay in print like that. Comics barely had any collections, and when they did, they tended to be one print, maybe one or two more if there's demand, and then it was done type of deals. That's why DC screwed Moore over. Because they saw the prestige and money in the title and kept reprinting it so that rights couldn't ever revert back.
>Because they saw the prestige and money in the title and kept reprinting it so that rights couldn't ever revert back.
Based DC keeping Watchmen out of the hands of that degenerate fuck.
a bit cheap, yes.
That's the cynical read on it.
Did you know that fanfic writers sometimes mistake "character bashing" for "deconstruction?
Is it ripped yet?
But White man Saviour Stories are Epic adventures filled whith exotic locations Fun Stuff true Comic
Except it's literally already been done, by a much better writer than King
I personally wasn't a fan of his Omega Men, and this looks a lot like it'll be another one like that.
Then again I'm not as well knowledged on Strange like I am on GLs and Vega stuff, so maybe it'll be like his Mister Miracle and I'll find it mildly entertaining.
it's going to be more feminist men hating garbage
>men bad and weak
>women good and strong
Strange is going to constantly cry and needing to be rescued by women so pretty much a continuation of the emasculation that he did to Batman.
Just being a realist.
What the fuck is this broken english, can bots post here now?
Did you actually read the princess of mars? Because that ending was the most direct jab at those tropes I have seen
>Just being a realist.
Cuz Silver Age DC was so edgy & realistic...right?
Where do you think you're going with this one?
I never cared that much about Adam Strange, I don't even know what his personality is.
Ya boi Zack gave it a good review!
of course he did, ya boi is all about that stolen valor
Just watch flash gordon for peak unapologetic atompunk kino
