>TECHNOLOGY BAD
Hard pass, also hate how the movie is just called Connected, clearly ripping off one title movies like Tangled or Frozen.

Looks neat, has the same pseudo-2D aesthetic that Spider-Verse has albeit a bit toned down, probably thanks to the simpler character designs. Still miss the old title, though.

Probably will watch it

YES!
BOOMER COMIC THE MOVIE

Attached: sears.jpg (1200x915, 184K)

Love the animation style, but I'm not sure about the "phone bad" message they're trying to push here.
Also did they really need to spoil that the robots become evil in the trailer?

>The Mitchells are a dysfunctional but loving family whose road trip is interrupted by a tech uprising that threatens mankind.
Anyone who googled it would know

The movie's original title was "The Mitchells vs. The Machines" so the robots turning evil was a given since the beginning.

Attached: 1575902092445.png (640x1072, 877K)

No official reason is given so far for the renaming.

Attached: https%3A%2F%2Fpbs.twimg.com%2Fmedia%2FERPE7mCUEAAgTTJ.jpg (1200x649, 91K)

Okay, so the phone issue is what forces them into a road trip, but there was a few scenes where the dad seems to not mind his daughter's use of tech when they're fighting the robots. Looks like they'll come to an understanding.

Should've kept it that because is absolutely correct. It's so bland, generic and uninformative. I don't care if it refers to the movie's theme in a somewhat punny way, it's absolutely not evocative or memorable.

Did you even watch the trailer? It's not gonna just have a simple "technology bad" message.

Reminder that Lord and Miller have no actual involvement other than producing.

>using an obviously adult voice for a prepubescent child
Why is this a thing now? I hate that this is a thing now.
>"High Hopes"
Is this becoming the go-to song for animated trailers?

>using an obviously adult voice for a prepubescent child
They could at the very least pitch it up a couple of semitones like South Park

I wasn’t sure about Michael Rianda (the lead writer and director) voicing the little boy, and now I can wholeheartedly say that it doesn’t sound fitting at all.

Attached: 9D0F93A2-2176-453D-8F7E-BC796CCC3EC1.png (2000x1081, 2.79M)

The art style is great. If I hear that High Hopes song in one more trailer I’m going to kill myself however

trailer looked fun
probably gonna watch it for just the animation and ignore the plot itself if i watch it
also dis

The kid behaves 14 or 15. It’s still a retarded move but I’m pretty sure he just looks younger because of how lanky the girl is

Fuck Disney and fuck Pixar. There’s nothing wrong with lengthier, more elaborate movie titles. There used to be a time when we could get titles like ‘The Emperor’s New Groove’ or ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.’ What happened to that?

Attached: BF3EA9B3-62E1-44FD-BDBA-5985E0D3F5AC.png (1600x1798, 1.46M)

I was on board until the robot uprising. But I like the look of it visually.

Are animated films with more than 1 word in the title ever going to be popular again

>soul
>soulless

Today, Emperor's New Groove would be "Llama" and Cloudy would be "Food"

unironically Cloudy being called Food would be amazing and fit the movie’s style

>1st part of the trailer: Lovely movie about family road trip something like Goofy movie but about smartphones
>2nd part of the trailer: Suddenly an army of robots shows up

Attached: 177full.jpg (157x195, 5K)

>Connected
>even Sony is doing the one word Disney meme
>meanwhile animes now have titles like: "the great hero who killed the dragon is back in action and now he's a farmer who works hard but also loves to play videogames while waiting for a cute Moe girl to marry and go fight even more dragons again dressed as a high school student!"
why can't we have something in between? something that makes sense?

Your point?

watch that other new Disney movie be renamed to just Dragon

>Arthur Christmas
>Pirates!
Sony has a better track record without them

what fucking tryhard shitty writing... it feels like i'm watching paul blart mall cop

fuck gen x, gen y and gen z

But those titles were based off of existing titles.
Let's face it, "Tangled" and "Frozen" are better than "Rapunzel" and "The Ice Queen".

People expecting Lord and Miller to make this good are expecting too much from them

Acting older than you are is a well-established cartoon trope. Using an ill-fitting voice is not.

Oh, for the love of -- listen, just because Disney and Pixar make it work on occasion doesn't mean you get to do it at random, you nitwits!

but dude! it's relatable cuz phones and shit.

And watch Dreamworks try and sue them if that happens.

STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPP!!!

Lord and Miller made Cloudy, just not the sequel.

Frozen works in abandoning the Snow Queen title since the movie abandoned the original story anyways.

I hope they make the girl an actual serious filmmaker and don’t have her just doing boomer concepts of “viral videos” the entire time

Attached: C58C2A98-1AEC-4AD6-8DC4-6EE6CF2A4037.jpg (1446x795, 857K)

artstyle and animation looks fantastic.

looks like a bunch of dumb shit latest trend "jokes" (IE: see not jokes, just nods to things that happen irl). Also I cant help but think they started this projects with the prospects of having John Goodman voice the dad character cuz he fucking looks like John Goodman but they probably couldnt get him so settled on some one else.

If you close your eyes and dont watch the videos, this looks like a typical shit sony animated movie.

It was always part of the premise. The original title was The Mitchells vs. the Machines.

More like "Groove" and "Clouded".

This is literally that rv movie with robin williams

>there's people out there who will unironically say OMG THEY ARE SO HOT!

Attached: 4535.jpg (1280x720, 148K)

I would have liked a wholesome road trip family movie, it's not that we get too many in these years of genuine family moments.

But...why the robot apocalypse?

I know I used to meme "why do you expect us to have standards with what we fap too?"
But I have minimal standards that tell me to don't fap to this

though it's ugly, people fap to rick and morty shit which is way uglier

I think it looks solid which means it’s probably great considering how kids’ movie trailers consistently target the lowest common denominator and undersell the movie.

>fuck gen x, gen y and gen z
based gen w

The sudden introduction of the robot uprising felt just like the Spies in Disguise trailer where things were going great and then he got turned into a pigeon. Before the big genre shift I thought it looked pretty fun, but now I’m feeling turned off because it feels like they couldn’t just let it alone.

I don’t really care that they quite possibly always had the movie planned to be some grand scifi war movie told from the perspective of a suburban family that’s just trying to get along- the bait and switch method of the trailer turns the premise totally unappealing to me. Like I got robbed of a fun perfectly good movie and given a boring contrived one instead of the other way around like they were probably going for.

But for about two seconds before the robots went evil, I really wanted to fuck the robot.

Because a simple roadtrip film would be boring as fuck

i remember liking this movie
still think it's an okay movie

At least the character designs look novel and interesting. Except for the fucking dog, wth?

Robot apocalypse is just the logical choice in keeping with the theme.

>Because a simple roadtrip film would be boring as fuck
And forcing a generic robot apocalypse is not-boring?
Why not making it something like a metaphorical robot apocalypse where all the kids have eyes stuck on technology?

That robot apocalypse in the second half of the trailer. Man, we've already seen Next Gen.

Attached: Next Gen.jpg (1920x1012, 391K)

> Why not making it something like a metaphorical robot apocalypse where all the kids have eyes stuck on technology?
That would be even worse

This

Because they’re not Disney, the movie won’t make that much money. The dog is so that they can sell some EZ merchandise

well animated and otherwise harmless. 68/100 and a decent results at the box office but will be forgotten after a month.

But at least in tone with the boomer's message.
If there is something worse than a boomer message is a forced sci-fi boomer message

>A Bug's Life
>Antz

>Sony makes a message about appreciating conservative family values
>still gets Yea Forums angry
Impressive

I appreciate the adventurousness of the visuals, but these characters look like poorly-drawn, Sunday morning-style webcomics from the early 2000s.

>hurr durr Thomas Edison was a witch

Rule 34 is inevitable. Dread it. Hate it. Run from it. It will be drawn. This is why we need a new WWOEC.

A Goofy Movie pulled it off just fine.

kek

finally i have an urge to watch an animated movie in a cinema

good lord, i was starving!

I’m kinda hoping that there’s a twist at the end where the robots are simply misunderstood and they come to a peaceful solution at the end. The same way I’m hoping that the dad’s character arc is that he learns to accept his daughter and her interests, and realize that it was never technology getting in the way of his relationship, but that it was his own unfounded fears and stubborn worldview. That the setup is you think the message is Technology Bad but it turns out it’s something else. And subverting the classic Technology Bad scifi tropes is supposed to be one way they do that twist.

But I would still have rather just had a straight family movie without the hard left turn into fantastical apocalyptic scifi.

Did they really have to do this semantic bullshit of calling her a filmmaker? Just say she’s into animation

Attached: 326FCDDA-EEE3-41A7-A942-33B50C032FD5.jpg (1422x789, 823K)

I definitely think the sci-fi stuff is much more integral to the plot and thematic arc of the movie than the trailer is making it look, the way the ad is structured and edited makes it look like a 3rd act twist when really it’s probably an end of act 1 thing that happens 30 minutes in, and we’ve seen barely anything from the post apocalypse world

Be honest, you just loved jerking it to the lingerie models.

The dad ruined her laptop and the heartfelt video message she wanted to show him with his anti-tech rage. It's clearly not anti-technology. I think it will be aiming to unite the generations more and show that both have their flaws.

Probably in reaction to all the Ok boomer stuff becoming a big cultural moment and bringing attention to the generational divide.

Is she? It looked like she was fucking around with puppetry and live action more than animation.

Yeah, I think that might be so too. Doesn’t change that it’s a bad trailer for ultimately failing to hype me for the movie.

She probably has the video backed up at least.

There’s drawings right behind the poster. Also in some scenes her body is surrounded by little doodles that add emphasis

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs has been shortened to "Cloudy" before.

I guess maybe not as often because it's the book title.

The dates on the video camera are a nice detail. Looks like the movie takes place ON the day it premieres

the twist is that she makes a movie about the roadtrip with her family vs the robots and everyone thinks its so over the top and a great idea
They call it The Mitchells Vs The Machines

I like the moments of different animation

It'll probably be alright, after Spider-Verse Sony is probably gonna try their damndest to actually give a shit about animation now.
It'll almost assuredly be better than Disney's Chinabait this year, that's for sure.

>instead of CalArts its CalCOF

>making a cute lovable pug mascot character

>but also making it an ugly as sin fat bugeyed lump that highlights that it is a hideous genetic mistake of man’s hubris

I can’t decide if this is good or not. If it increases the demand for pugs and therefore also increases the hideous practice of further pug breeding, then it’s bad. If it helps people realize that pugs are suffering lumbering blobs of horrific health disorders, it could be okay.

God I feel bad for pugs. They don’t deserve to be forced to exist.

Why are you so blandly defending corporations, literally by principles and with no arguments? Is that how your parents raised you? Prayers at wallmart every week or something?

Even the robots were like “what the fuck is this genetic abomination”

Mega Milk

>blandly defending corporations
They are shitting on the corporate product though?

>it's another non-Disney CGI film that nobody will remember cause it's not Disney

I feel bad for the folks working on this.

Attached: 1578154952974.jpg (1025x1080, 184K)

Why is Brianna Wu in this movie?

Sony is probably #2 in the industry behind Didney. They’ll be fine.

yeah, they have the whole playstaOHMYGOD THE VIRUS!

It was a message for her family as she left for college so it's too late now, the moment is ruined and she probably doesn't want to show it any more.

>PHONE BAD - The Movie
hard pass

Also there's the irony that the camcorder videos the dad watches of his daughter as a child are only possible because of tech.

>I didn’t actually watch the trailer

Easier to remember and Google

>Sony Pictures Animation
I'll pass

Attached: master-master.mp4_snapshot_07.48.975.png (769x769, 676K)

Drawing can still be useful to her as a live action filmmaker/puppeteer if she wants to draw storyboards. I know there’s lots of 2D animation sprinkled throughout and she plays around with that animated cat filter, but I really think she’ll do a lot more live action filming/puppeteering (MAYBE a little stop motion)in the film than animating. As a story device, it’s quicker and snappier to have her filming live action all throughout than just having her sit in a corner doodling for hours to make a couple seconds long flip book. I’ll concede that she seems like she might sign up for an animation class when she gets to college, but I don’t think she’s decided on animation as her major yet, and that she’s still playing around with mediums.

She also makes a compilation video of her dad kissing the dog and we see her setting up her sock puppet.

>unrelated to the film because its message is clearly not PHONE BAD like people think it is
I feel like a lot of people who ARE so vehemently against PHONE BAD messages are probably also the most technology addicted.

Why does the shape of their heads look like some Picasso shit?

Attached: concern.gif (213x213, 823K)

I just want a scene of the girl in a swimsuit.

Rapunzel and The Ice Queen aren't bad titles, they're just really old titles we've heard a million times.

There's a difference between "based off an existing title" and "exactly the same as an existing title."

Back to Yea Forums shitposter.

>Every Boomer dad thinks it's the technology and not just his inability to connect authentically with his family, support their interests, and introduce them to meaningful experiences, which is what fathers are supposed to be able to do.
Well Mike maybe Vesper wouldn't be attached to her phone if you took an active interest in her shitty anime drawings, so she didn't have to turn to deviantArt and Twitter for positive feedback.

That's the entire fucking point of the movie

Sony working with the "2D cartoon aesthetics but 3D" thing Genndy started. So the facial features are more fluid in their positioning and hopefully in their expressiveness.

Well, yeah. And that’s why it’ll hang over their heads for a while until the whole family ends up watching it at the end of the film after they’ve gone on a grand adventure together and they’ll all have a sappy wholesome one last goodbye together at the last minute.

OR they’ll watch it about two thirds into the movie when they’ve hit their lowest point and are just about to give up and it’ll be their big rallying motivator to get up and go save the world stronger than ever before or whatever it is they’re gonna do.

I dunno, it's less that and more "people should connect to each other in an intimate level" and cellphones can actually fuck it up: see dinner scene.

This. If you could look into all the critics I bet there would be a theme

But they're trying to hook audiences with the pre-character-arc status quo, and I guarantee no 25-60-year-old American man is going to see this movie for a moral education.

Idiocracy was a prophecy not a comedy

The dad character is really hot

I do love that.

>No! I don’t want us to stop filming every minute of our day to day lives so that I can fondly look back on it later!
>I just want you to do it with an old fashioned vhs camcorder instead of a cell phone so that it’s through a vehicle of something I’m accustomed to and not something new and scary for me

>reusing the shitty pug from Epic
>the incredibly tired & dead "family members tugging over an object and breaking it for drama" cliche
>garish clown colors everywhere
I guess kids will enjoy it but it doesn't really hold any adult appeal.

Also these character designs just look a bit off. Like they're torn between Pixar and a more cartoony Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs look, without fully committing to a style. It just looks halfassed and insincere, like it's trying to imitate too many different things at once.

At least there are no blacks.

>I guarantee no 25-60-year-old American man is going to see this movie for a moral education
Have I got some news for you about the modern entertainment industry

I wonder if they'll do something ballsy with it and have a twist end like The World's End. Seems like it would fit the supposed moral of the film.

Attached: WorldsEnd.png (1366x579, 1.51M)

That’s not the point of the dinner scene. The point of the dinner scene is that the dad forces everyone into an incredibly uncomfortable and awkward situation because of his fear of “screens.”

Not that the family has become so used to looking at screens that they have become unable to communicate without them. They’re pained and awkward because the dad ruined the tone of the situation by suddenly demanding forced eye contact. But the dad is ironically too socially distanced from them to realize what’s happening and concludes they are the fucked up ones.

Get back to kitchen!

Generic names are harder to google, aren't they? You always need to add a modifier.

user, regular animated movies aren't marketed towards 25-60-year-old American men.

Do you think Into the Spider-Verse would’ve made more money if it was titled “Webbed”?

Yeah SEO is an element but you can just pay Google to boost your visibility

>Ringed
Wanna know how I can tell you're an ESL?

Dumb name change

Wooow when was the last time we saw some milkers in a western theatrocal animation?

The dog was the worst part. It's just so ugly.

Not nice. Go jerk off to that Soul trailer that Disney’ll throw up in two days’ time to try and pull everybody’s attention away from Connected.

It's amazing, no matter how good the actual movie will be they completely shot themselves in the foot by making everyone think it's a "PHONE BAD" message. Even if it isn't it's too late that's how the public already sees the movie. What a fuck up.
Also besides that movie doesn't really seem that interesting, even the artstyle feels like it's being half-assed.

>It's a movie about boomers vs. zoomers
>It's a movie about a girl going to CalArts
As much as I've enjoyed Lord and Miller's films, I'm probably gonna pass on this one.

>making everyone think it's a "PHONE BAD"
Is everyone a retard incapable of understanding a simple trailer? How anyone could watch that and think the dad will be shown as unambiguously right is flabbergasting.

>SCARY BUZZWORDS!

based

Aren't they just producing it? I don't think they wrote it

>From the visionary minds behind Academy Award® winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Okay, cool cool. But is it really so hard to mention Michael Rianda and Jeff Rowe—writers on Gravity Falls—as the actual writers and directors of this movie? Don’t you think that’d also be a helpful selling point while being a more accurate descriptor?

Attached: 87CB590B-0338-450D-8CE2-222298EC2E8E.jpg (4000x2705, 1.19M)

But... it’s not Lord & Miller’s film.

You can trick people into watching it by mentioning who produced it.

AAAHHHHHH OH GOD! MY ALMONDS... TH-THEY’RE ACTIVATING!!

Attached: Oh yeah.png (640x480, 248K)

Also the daughter is using some sort of high tech laser weapon to fight the robots arounf 2:17

I'm talking about the press release image that came out before the trailer, our first look at the movie was literally a Boomer comic tier scene.
It's already poisoned the first impression for a good chunk of people and a trailer isn't going to change that

Attached: image.jpg (2000x1081, 279K)

>"No time to wash your hands."
>"Don't worry, I never do."
>"That's what makes us great."

Oh lord, this probably isn't going to bode well considering the context of what's happening today.

What's the moral?
>phones bad

You still has to compete against social media created by giant corporations with millions spent in just developing ways to make you addicted to it.

I mean, there is a SHITLOAD of data of how people are getting more and more addicted to this kind of stuff and all the bad things that it can lead to.

No? No one cares about some old boomer cartoon.

>Not that the family has become so used to looking at screens that they have become unable to communicate without them. They’re pained and awkward because the dad ruined the tone of the situation by suddenly demanding forced eye contact.
You think that all family members using phone while eating is right?

>writers on Gravity Falls
Probably because Spiderman sells more then a niche Disney Channel series.

The faces are too damn flat and eyes too damn wide. Looks unnatural. Like a twisted version of Cloudy w/ Meatballs.

Now that’s what I call horrible timing.

Oh, so you just lack comprehension skills.

Bro cringe

It’s the same as the tipping point around 2018 when ORANGE MAN BAD spam became more annoying than actual constant trump bashing.

May be people would remember them if they weren't so forgettable.
I mean, just because isn't done by Disney doesn't mean is good or it deserves to be remembered.

Most people never saw that.

>boomers make their boomer comics into movies now

ITT:

First part is like one of those boomer comics but in movie format
Second part is just that Simpson episode with the robots going crazy

It doesn't feel exiciting, original or...anything. And the worst part is that with this trailers it feels that you don't need to even watch the movie any more.
I mean, they present you the characters (flashback included), their current situation, se the conflict, show of how they decide to drive her to college to settle things, the road trip, and then they show you the "twist".

That's not a trailer, that's a fucking 2 minutes and a half short! Why I would want to go watch this, you show me the whole fucking thing!

Attached: ras.png (438x630, 351K)

Unironically this is most of the people in this thread saying LOOKS LIKE PHONE BAD

>TECHNOLOGY BAD
*takes off glasses*
My God! How did we not see it before! Thank you, Boomers for telling us that technology is bad! I will now go read a book! Maybe The Fountainhead! And drink some water!

Looks terrible but some of art is nice. Will fap to the daughter getting dicked down by her dad when someone draws it

>People are shitting on a movie by based Lord and Miller because of the title and the message of the trailer which they're obviously going to bring a more nuanced take come the actual movie
You keep finding new ways to disappoint me Yea Forums

Attached: 1582375755691.jpg (1920x1080, 377K)

>Hahahaha, kids can't not look at phone, evil technology!

It feels weird we're getting animated movies designed for kids but clearly written and directed for boomers? Still, I wasn't entirely against it until the weird evil robot twist.

At least corona is transmitted via respiratory secretions and not a bacterial infection. If he had sneezed into his hands and then touched someone that’d be even worse.

Like how you fall for the marketing claim that this is "by" Lord and Miller?

Right. Just like how The Lego Movie was a generic cashgrab chosen one story, and how people over a certain age shouldn't play with things over their age limit.

You and the dad literally need to learn to cope.

He probably wouldn’t even mind it if they were all sitting eating off of trays on folding tables in front of the tv like they did back in his day.

Right. Because the producers credit doesn't mean anything huh?

Unnatural? Would you say almost like, for example, a cartoon?

What a waste of trips. Producers control basically everything about the movie, and nothing gets approved without their OK. Executive Producers are the ones that just slap their name on the project and do nothing.

He wasn’t filming, though. He is in all of those old videos. The mom was probably the one filming them.

Not that it changes your point.

If it’s actually nuanced there’ll probably be a flashback showing the Dad on a Blackberry or DS some other primitive tech

>PHONE BAD

They should have named it "Boomer" instead of "Connection."

You know, given the director wrote for Gravity Falls and that's most of his work
I have a feeling he isn't a "boomer"

To be honest this made me giggle

What are the odds that enough backlash against Aaron Mitchell’s voice could lead to another Mars Needs Moms situation?

So by your logic, credit for SM:ITSV must be shared between Lord, Miller, Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, and whoever Christina Steinberg is, whilst throwing Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman under the bus? And all our complaints about the Frozen franchise must be laid at the feet of Peter Del Vecho instead of Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee?

I'm pretty sure nobody give enough of a shit

>This robot twist looks really dumb, would be better being just about the road trip

Is that supposed to make it not dumb?

>that view count

>the zoomer cries out in pain as he strikes you

Misha please, according to the twitter meaning of the meme, you are a boomer. Anybody under 16 is one. Actually even 16 year olds need to prove the rest of the tribe they aren't by specifically making antiboomer posts every day.

Yes? Both Goofy and Max had problems that they had to compromise on, just like I’m assuming the dad and the girl have in this movie

I'm gonna have to ask you to not lie to me like I can't see the trailer.

Attached: 1581825485147.jpg (1200x1200, 260K)

>Millenial = anyone younger than me
Millenials are in their late 20's to mid 30's.
Zoomers were the ones eating Tide Pods, except they weren't eating Tide Pods just memeing about it.

>You and the dad literally need to learn to cope
I think you had bad parents. Dinner time is one of those times to talk with the family, for everyone to be everyone together. The father wasn't even with the tv turned on so you can't project things on him.

Using a phone while eating on the dinner table is disrespectful and honestly quite stupid, you don't pay attention to both actions and there is probably no need to be hooked on social media ALL the time.

The only part that was funny to me was the robots confusing the pug for bread.

But why do I feel like that's how they're going to beat all of them?

Gee user, it's almost like film is a collaborative effort between people and entities. And a producers job is to keep a film's production running smoothly and hire appropriate people for their respective jobs. And why would should we trust Lord and Miller hand picking everyone?

You do realize the Lego Movie people aren’t writing it and their names are just being used to trick Boomers like you, right?

test

I’m gonna have to ask you to understand the concept of nuance, then.

premise is very tired but it looks fun, i'll watch it for the visuals at the very least. i was initially disappointed they ditched the traditional aspect, but the animation still looks really good

What are you talking to me about nuance for, you literally just called one side of the nuance "the villain" even though he's given infinitely more sympathy than "those dumb phone using teens"

You make it sound it didn't set the bench mark anyway, for films of this type to follow its standard

>muh boomer
This really is going to be the word of the day isn't it?

The girl isn’t the one who broke a 300 dollar laptop.

Word of the year you mean, people keep replacing more and more regular sentences with shitty meaningless buzzwords

Not to mention I robot , or bubblegum crisis 2040

Even in your own example of the inciting incident (which does NOT make a villain), it was 2 people in an argument where either side could have prevented it.

Dad is 90% of the screen time of that trailer, it's clear it's his movie.

I was kinda into it until they got the
HAHA FUNNY EVIL ROBOT TAKING OVER THE WORLD
why does every stupid move need to have an END OF THE WORLD plot?

>all the salty Boomers in this thread

Go back to drinking Monster and mowing the yard, grandpa’s!

Dunno. What's your opinion on the Ninjago movie?

Pretty alright, wasn't one of the better Lego movies but still a fun enough time waster

FOR REAL
What is the problem of the message: "maybe we should use less cellphone/tv and connect with the people around us"?

What about it is SO revolting?

This place really went to shit

I thought it was changed to be a metaphor for the father and his family. Since he actually used the word a few times in the trailer.

Eating always struck me as a weird time to talk. It's not like you don't see eachother a lot of other times and get the major stuff out of the way then, you're just left with awkward small talk then. Our family ditched that pretty early. Boardgame time was a better time to socialize.

It’s not entirely his movie. Would you call Goofy the main character of his movie while the central conflict revolves around Max and what he wants?

No, because Max alone is a significantly bigger part of the Goofy Movie than the daughter in this clearly is.

>clearly ripping off one title movies like Tangled or Frozen.
And they were jus ripping off titles like Up! And that was just ripping off titles like Hoodwinked and Antz, and THOSE were just ripping off of...

I don't get the people who think the message of this is supposed to be "phone bad". Like, is the concept of moderation really too subtle for some people to grasp?

>Eating always struck me as a weird time to talk.
Since cavemen time eating was a time to socialize. Hell, people go out to eat somewhere with their friends, people go on dates to restaurants, most major holidays have the family eating together. It's not weird, it's pretty much the norm across all wolrd

SHUT UP DAD I USE PHONES WHENEVER I WANT!

You know, I was pretty into the premise of this movie WITHOUT the robot invasion. In fact, I kind of don't really want the robot invasion. I think if they just set it up as a family robot trip and they come back to the city and the apocalypse comically happened in that time, that would be funny. But they already set up enough conflict and obstacles with the whole Dad, daughter, and tech bits.

I agree. We need to get rid of technology. And get rid of vaccines since they cause autism. We need to go back to the good old days when there wasn’t so many Mexicans and Gays. Member the good days?

No?

Can you post a better argument that is not an empty fallacy?

You are literally acting like

It is amazing that Disney manages to make a movie about technology good while Sony comes across as ignorant boomers. It really shows you who is more intelligent.

So this is a kids version of Maximum Overdrive?

Attached: maximum-overdrive-vestron-video-collectors-series-bl-c27-D_NQ_NP_892566-MLM30767117334_052019-F.jpg (800x956, 249K)

Vaccines can stay, Mexicans and gays can go.

>clearly
Did we watch the same trailer?

Because the metaphorical one would make all the "WOW GREAT ANOTHER 'TERCHNOLOGY BAD' FILM" rage even harder

you have to be 18 to post here.

>TECHNOLOGY AND PHONES ARE BAD AND NEEDS TO BE DESTROYED!
Isn’t this a bad message for Sony? Y’know, the people who make phones and technology to sell to people? Aren’t you basically trying to get people to not buy your stuff?

They’re trying to advertise a movie to rival Disney at the Oscars next year, not a new children’s show like The Owl House.

Attached: A6A172BF-761F-4972-AFD8-EB494DE4ACF9.png (1280x720, 217K)

It would be a bad message if that was the actual message they were pushing

I never noticed that Onward basically has the exact same logo as Frozen

That's literally Mr. Incredible.

the twist at the end is that Sony products save the day and the father learns to love technology because of Sony.

I don't think the voice is what was the problem with that movie.

Phone bad the movie X Itchy and Scratchy Land

Attached: Zenmode_Itchy__Scratchy_Land_Poster_Preview_Jun30_2014_-1-547x630.jpg (547x630, 111K)

It’s funny how Sony went from shilling phones with the Emoji movie to full Boomer destroy phones with Connected.

They really can’t do anything right.

Your angry little brain really just takes everything at face value doesn't it

Because people desperately want the world to end.

Why would you be dishonest?

A symptom of Trump Obsessive Disorder. Wanting the world to end because you don’t think the world will get better because Trump.

What? Onward is just a kid seeing his dead dad. Where are you getting this from?

So they would rather be poor?

FATHER I CANNOT CLICK THE BOOK

Do you want me to do a percentile analysis of how much the dad is in the trailer alone, how much the daughter is in the trailer alone, and how much they're together? Do you want me to break down how many lines each of them get? This is provable, but I'd rather you just watch the trailer and see for yourself.

POKEMON MONSTERS

Are you Trump Jr? I'm still not sure where he got "the democrats want millions to die of coronavirus" while his dad said it was just a liberal media scare.

Yeah it sounds fucking terrible, it isn't believable at all. Just sounds like a grown man voicing a little boy, it doesn't even sound like he's pretending to be a little boy. Dunno why they did that

Making an event out of it makes sense, sure. Get togethers with friends and holidays, that's all events. Forcing it on the daily is gonna result in just getting awkward, especially if you justify that as your social time rather than building on something you have in common. Boardgames worked way better than sitting at the table and having another conversation about the weather or what work was like today.

His voice sure isn’t.

>Forcing it on the daily is gonna result in just getting awkward
Only if you have 0 intimancy with your family. Seriously, wtf?

Look at it from a writing standpoint rather than an objective standpoint. They’re probably both the main characters, sure, but considering that the girl has those doodles interacting with the real world (showing it’s her POV since those are imaginary) and her being shown as the voice of reason and correctness she’ll get at least as much focus as the dad if not more

2012

Did anyone notice the libertarian bumper stickers on the dad’s car?

People wanted the world to end before Trump was elected.

>thinks everything is about Trump
>calls others obsessed

You can pretend everyone who isn't you is miserable all you want to justify your own life, my family is closer than most and wouldn't be closer by pretending the family dinner was the cornerstone of all our values.

FTFY

Attached: water mmmhmhhmh.jpg (795x845, 70K)

I think they really wanted to play up the family angle and try to make it look like some deeper meaning pixar movie about family and characters, but what they had was wacky family fights the robot apocalypse movie. Placing bets now that trailer covered basically the entirety of the first 20 minutes of this movie and rest of the movie is the robot apocalypse stuff that the trailer tried to sweep under the rug.

>*Also the mother is hot
>FTFY
Nah he was right the first time, and the best part is milf fags don’t even have any justifiable reason to try and steer us away from the clearly superior choice (like Eda fags also do in TOH threads) because this one is legal

Imagine going for the milf and not milkers to her left

I wish Disney would buy out Sony already

yes goy support the monopoly

No sorry, I didn't wanted to insult you or anything, but finding eating with the family awkward is really weird to me

Serious question:
Does anyone honestly know a kid this dumb?

Didn’t the Simpsons already do this? Twice?

I feel like I've seen the whole movie already.

>SCIENCE BAD
This is why I only watch intelligent shows like Rick and Morty.

I mean it makes sense. The constant ingestion of food is counterintuitive to flapping your gums about some menial shit that happened today. Hell, my family constantly wanted to talk while we were watching shit on the TV and that's retarded because then when the conversation lulls and we all look back at the television we have no idea what the fuck's been going on, and anyone else trying to watch is suffering through us talking over the show. Doing shit with your family is retarded, user has it right. Board games or smash bros are much more effective because they're a co-operative task, whereas eating and watching TV are individual tasks that we've all decided to do together for some reason and it's gotten in the way of actual social interaction.

>Taking their families to it.

At least they’re getting work, unlike Alex.

I'm sorry to inform you that pugs just actually look like that

The sound editing seemed broken and weird, particularly during the moment where the laptop was broken. Like, there was just no music there, nor good sound effects.
Art looks alright, premise doesn't seem interesting.

I was worried we would only get a minute-long teaser of the pug doing wacky nonsense. I’m glad we got a full theatrical trailer from the get-go, but I hate how much of the story it gave away

Attached: 24E3D6E0-D0DD-4C54-B451-1ACBB6D63382.jpg (1280x720, 85K)

It’s probably early in production. There’s always spliced voices and weird sound effects

>Haven't they made this movie already?
and it was good

I watched the trailer, and while I don't have any problems with the themes it's trying to tackle on paper, there's a reason why most cookie cutter kid's films tackle very safe, predictable, and boring messages that usually don't have a lot of complexity, like "family good, friend good", or what have you. Portraying complexity and nuance in a short timeslot of an hour or two requires good plot and character writing, neither of which this movie seems like it's going to have. The robots that are added in the latter half also seem like they're going to end up as more of an excuse to have a grandiose finale rather than reinforcing the question of what sociological effects technology has in our current day. The setup of a boomer dad that doesn't understand his kids and a 20 something daughter that's studying to become a "filmmaker" in commiefornia seems like a poor choice of setup for a reflection on technology and is probably just going to go the route of every kid's movie in the past 5 years and be more "family good, me fadda, me love you, me think you okay." to his daughter and just be the shitty basic conflict resolution of a family. This isn't going to be a film about technology's role to play with people, or technology's role in a family, technology is just going to be the backdrop, the little meaningless bit of salt that's added to the hash we've had 500 other times in 500 better dishes. Then watch as it comes out and gets a good enough critical and audience reception that we have another thread like this but every user is going to love it like with the every other mediocre kid's movie in the past five years, because this board is full of brainless morons. I swear, it's getting more and more like every thread is it's own website with each passing day, instead of each board. Cross-pollination is at an all time low, we might as well give this board generals so it can die.

What was the problem? I really liked that movie

the art style reminds me of penny arcade with unlimited funding

>but that it was his own unfounded fears and stubborn worldview
But it wasn't. The girl is fucking off to california to sell her soul and all she does for a goodbye thing is ask her family to take a minute off their screens so they can look at her screen exclusively, the selfish prick, while the father is just asking that they all articulate their thoughts and emotions for this big change in their lives with real time spoken words, gestures and face to face interaction.

Attached: 1546868825129.jpg (1908x1428, 324K)

Can we please start back giving things actual titles and not just a single-word name that's not particularly useful as a title for identifying what the hell the movie actually is? Titles that just have a titular MC are the exception, of course, but I'm tired of these shitty single-word titles. At least put some information in that single word if it's not being named after the MC/Work it is derived from.

Aristocats
Superbad
Metropolis
Speed
Waterworld
Inception
Trainspotting

These are all at least nice titles, regardless of what you think of the movies. Hell, even Cars and Planes get to the point.

>This? Is exactly why I'm excited to leave tomorrow.

YOU'RE THE ONE WHO PULLED THE LAPTOP OUT OF HIS HANDS YOU SPOILED LITTLE CUNT

It's her laptop. She has the right to take it back.

You know that priducers also have a spot in the creative process right?

This movie was written and directed by millennials. The trailer and title however were made by boomers. Think about that

Have you already seen it?

Man, trying to have those emotional, human moments with those wide, flat eyes and exaggerated side-mouths just doesn't work at all. The concepts seem okay but the character design seems to be dragging it down a lot.

i thought most trailers are slapped together by the relatively junior and underpaid

Why do they love changing original titles to generic marketable trash?

>Idiocracy was a prophecy not a comedy

Only morons say this.

That'll probably be relevant. If anything it looks like it'll be deconstructing the boomer mentality.

You're probably on to something there.

No one outside of kids and college students watch the disney channel

But user, I need my memes and my (You)s! Without them, I'm just a shallow husk of a normie who tweets stupid racist shit to my maga buddies!

8 years ago grandpa.

I really want to fuck the dad. Anyone else like this?

Looks terrible. It's just a bad zoomer attempt at Boomercore.
Nah but seriously, the trailer makes me think it's Minions but with a message; also it's the girl's (or guy I can't really tell) for breaking the laptop.

It just seemed mediocre until the twist and "high hopes" started playing

I'm kind of offended the marketing is pretending this has anything to do with Lord and Miller

Imagine you raise a daughter, doing everything you can to give her an appreciation for nature and the world around her, only for her to turn into a braindead deviantart-tier "content creator" who wants to go to CalArts and get into massive student debt for a worthless degree that will let her intern for free while living in a shoebox and learning how to cancel people on social media.

It's due out late next year, I think. At the very least, production died in 2017 then restarted recently.

She'll make good connections though, if she's smart. The degree means nothing

>Trump Jr

It was Retarded Rand Paul who coined the phrase.

The dad yanked it from her hands first. She wouldn't had resisted if he hadn't pulled it away

Honestly I felt the opposite. The road trip was extremely contrived and typical. The robot attack was somewhat more interesting.

Actually, they upgraded to R rating after Alabama passed that new hate speech law to combat anti-white racism.

kek

He's on the cast and crew of Owl House.

it's hard to stick the landing for that kind of upset in a 2 minute trailer. I'm sure in the full movie they'll have more time to introduce Eric Andre's character and set up the way his robots turn evil

The problem is that people think that kids are using technology to "replace" their family around them when it's usually more of an escapism thing for people who just don't like to be around others or don't get along with their families, which is an entirely different problem altogether. Of course it's easier to just say "technology bad" so that's what most people go with because it's easier to blame something than to actually figure out what the problems and solutions are.

Attached: 1514935959780.jpg (480x365, 35K)

real work, user

there's nothing wrong with taking it more in moderation. maybe if you use technology in public to get out of social situations, just read a book or draw something instead of also using them constantly in private. there's more things to do than just browse 4chin all day.

You can read books and draw on the Internet, grandpa.

You can learn more from the internet than ever before.

ooh, I like the CG/2D mix

personally i find both more entertaining without screens. pencil gives me more percision in drawing and i don't have to spend money on a tablet, and books feel better with pages.

Katie going from "Can't wait to leave my family and go to college" to "I love my family because they're weird." sounded unfitting because the family isn't weird at all. It's just the Dad who feels like he's losing a connection with his family through technology. In fact the trailer focuses entirely on the daughter and father instead of the family as a whole leading me to believe that perhaps it would be better if it was just the Dad and Daughter going on the road trip.

I'm not going to try to go into the details of why a robot rebellion is such a fundamentally fucking retarded idea. I don't get Sony Animation. They're not quite Disney, not quite Dreamsworks. They've won two oscars in two years, but that doesn't excuse the last fifteen years of mediocrity.

Looks like the budget is there, but writing still remains piss poor, or doesn't match the movie's rating.

And?

Jesus. The product placement with these fucking headphones are unreal.

How hard is it to hire decent writers now and days.

Same goes for tv shows

user, I'm a person in the area. It's obvious that there are areas that are easier to make a living than others.

They used to joke that being a street vendor outside of the college was the destiny of most students. EVERYBODY knows that very few people who decide to work with arts make it.

Three obvious trolls.

The only reason lesbians are popular is because brain addled feminist idiots think it’s somehow empowering, while brain addled gross old male studio executives want to fap to the muff munching.

>old man yells at cloud

Yea but I honestly don't care.

Oh sorry, I should've known that this was the low quality shitpost thread, like every other thread on this board. When are we having the next Everett True thread?

Yes, and it's a calculated effort as you can see on of pic related.

Really like the artstyle and animation, and that's about it

is this supposed to be a puppet set up?
it kinda looks like a stop motion set up to me

Attached: ESOM_JNWsAECpcJ.jpg (960x540, 51K)

God,I remember making stop motion animations with Lego. I still kinda do, actually. But I had to sell my nice Canon camera because I lost my job.

Stop motion studio is pretty decent for a free mobile app

wouldn't she use a normal camera instead of a video camera then?

>only gay people can wear rainbow pins
2/10 bait

The slice of life stuff was shit too.

Never heard of that before. I still have a webcam though it's pretty good. But here's some animation I made a couple of years ago with my Canon:

Many video cameras have photo options

I just noticed that barely any of the dialogue in the first half of the trailer matches the lips. Seems like they might be hiding something

usually they're not as good. video cameras are designed to hold larger files so they have to compromise on quality

>Those painted nails

Holy fuck I have a new fetish

Its stop motion with puppets

Sony has their own Dragon movie coming out this year called Wish Dragon.

How's that doing, by the way? I imagine Sonic is fucking DESTROYING it still.

I hadn’t even seen anything about this before I walked past the poster in the movie theater the other day.

Is the dog entirely CGI?

There's just something special about enthusiastic and supportive mothers with wide hips who are named 'Linda'

Yes, and it's unsettling.

Surprising considering the same vfx studio who did Lion King remake and Sonic is the one responsible for it.

>It seems like the movie is trying to say that technology can be used for many purposes but should be used as a way to connect people.

Rick is cute! CUTE!

>falling for epic Misha baits

Rethink why you're here.

>One was an epic waste of time and money.
